Hakuouki: Warriors of the Shinsengumi Goes To War In February

Hakuouki: Warriors of the Shinsengumi has a release date in North America. Aksys Games will release the PSP game on February 19th. Unlike Hakuouki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom, this one blends the visual novel format with an action game.

Hakuouki: Warriors of the Shinsengumi lets you control six samurai, and you can play through the game in two separate story modes. The first is based on Hakuouki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom and is dubbed “Shinsengumi Memorial”.

The other story mode is “Shinsengumi Chronicle” and this one lets you play through an alternate history that’s yours to change. Finally, a “Skirmish Mode” will allow you to replay past battles to level your character up, and will also allow you to unlock two additional characters for skirmishes.

Each retail copy of Hakuouki: Warriors of the Shinsengumi will come with a 16-page character guide, featuring all eight selectable characters from the game, along with artwork of them in their traditional outfits as well as western attire. Additionally, pre-order the game at Amazon will get you a 22” bandana featuring these same characters (see below).

I don’t see Saito anywhe- Oh wait, wrong anime.

  • Nozomi

I’m disappointed because this isn’t a otome visual novel, but an action game with visual novel elements instead.

    • Zal_Yagun

And as an action game, it doesn’t look impressive at all.

  • Nyandroid

So much good news in one day!!! My heart can’t take it! =owo= I hope EB gives out the bandanna as well.

I really appreciate Aksys releasing physical PSP games. I still have a PSP, I really enjoyed Ragnarok Tactics, but I just don’t have any interest in this game. Guess it’s hard to get licenses to some titles, but would have supported another niche RPG instead.

so preordering it from Amazon doesn’t get you a copy of the artbook?

“Amazon is currently offering a Hakuoki bandana as a pre-order bonus to those ordering before February 19th! In addition, each retail copy of Hakuoki: Warriors of the Shinsengumi will come with a 16-page full-color character guide..”

So you get both from Amazon.

Sano looks yummy, but half of them seriously need haircuts.

    • Ereek

I respectfully disagree, the longer hair makes them more attractive in my eyes.

Except Heisuke, I hate his hair. Fortunately, he has a fun personality to make up for it.

    PSP !!!
    aka region free

There are days when I’m happy they are still releasing games for the previous generation. However I would really love to see the 3ds, vita and wii U to pick up some decent games. God knows they need it :p

Aksys, you’re awesome for localizing such niche games and having physical copies too.

But I can’t help but wonder…why not release Fate Extra CCC? Surely that would sell better. In no way am I saying don’t release this though. This series has it’s own fans too.

CCC hasn’t even been finished. Even if we were going to publish it, announcing that now would be a little premature.

  • Ladius

I am tempted to buy two copies just to support a bold company like Aksys, since they’re the only ones crazy enough to bring us an otomehack&slash PSP game on UMD in 2013. I also hope there’s a chance to see Reimeiroku localized in the future, if this does well.

Once again, i believe Sui-chan is going to kill to get that bandana lol.

The graphic is not bad though. But it’s still not impressive.
