By Ishaan . January 23, 2013 . 6:50am

A new 3D action Mario game for Wii U is in development at Super Mario Galaxy development team, EAD Tokyo, as well as a new Mario Kart game. Both titles will be shown in playable form at E3.

In addition to these, the first screenshots for Super Smash Bros. will be shown off at E3 as well, although Iwata didn’t share any new information about any of these games.

Additionally, Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, revealed in a Nintendo Direct presentation today that a new party game for Wii U is being worked on by the team of developers that works on Mario Party.

I thought Smash bros would be shown at E3. Come on nintendo, blow us away once again by this awesome series!

  • Go2hell66

ahhhhh dammit, all i wanted to see was smash bros. oh well…

    until E3!

  • Oh wow, can’t wait for E3 now! Damn I’m gonna need a Wii U now.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

I kinda believed this is going to happen here. It seems Nintendo has kinda noticed that Nintendo Direct is a good way to target hardcore gamers while for E3, it is better to shows game that is attractive to more general gamers or casuals.
Anyway, hope to see more on all these titles in E3.^_^ E3 suddenly looks so bright.

  • Elvick

Not a surprise, but nice regardless.

I hope the 3D Mario takes it to the next level this time.

  • Maumac77

I can wait for E3 to hear about Smash Bros. I can deal with it only being Screenshots…….But PLEASE let one of them have Lloyd or Judith in there…. I want Tales characters in there so bad and they seem like a perfect fit.

    • Tails the Foxhound

The only Vesperia character I would want would be Rita, the only one they would add would be Yuri. Since I was of the crowd of people that cheered when Sodia gave him his just deserts, I would not be happy with that.

Lloyd all the way though. I was just telling my brother (hyperbolicaly) that if they added Lloyd and nothing else to Smash 4U and Smash3D, I would still be happy.

      • Maumac77

Judith wouldn’t be my first choice, but I was thinking more along the lines of the system. As much as I would love to see rita, I can’t picture a well done moveset for her as opposed to flynn or Judith. Yuri works but if they kept the smash ball, they would most likely use his Burst Arte rather than his MA. Judith’s MA would fit would look so cool. Flynn’s could be done like Mario and Lloyd like Ike. Now if they changed those moves to act like PSA (like when certain lv.3 supers cut into a sequence rather than on the field), then give me Dhaos as a “boss” character and give Rita Indignation. Would love that so much

        • Tails the Foxhound

I think Yuri’s Savage Wolf Fury would actually work pretty well, I mean it’s totally just like Triforce Slash isn’t it? SWF could just have the added effect of dragging nearby opponents into the kill zone. Honestly I think any character that made it into Tales of VS would be at least a decent fit for Smash, mages would be harder but Rita does have a lot of Strike Artes anyways. Also Smash already has at least one cutscene Final Smash, Captain Falcon’s Blue Falcon, I’d totally be fine with Rita just going “Blah, blah, blah, INDIGNATION!” in a real time Final Smash though.

          • Maumac77

oh that’s true I completely forgot about that. Well in Yuri’s case if we mimic link he could start it by using Ghost Wolf.I would say use his 2nd MA, but then the only way to escape that is to dodge lol. I guess it is true that any character from Vs.would work (Although I always though that game should have followed Dissidia’s design, at least 3D instead of 2D battles). I still say Lloyd is best fit only because Symphonia was on a nintendo console unlike the others besides Phantasia on GBA.

  • SirRichard

I went in expecting them to reveal the Wii U VC, talk about the games they have coming up over the next months as well as third party ones and maybe a bit on additional features I won’t use.

    And then they dropped these.

    And then they kept going

Oh god E3’s going to be amazing.

  • isotrex

I hope it’ll be release this year. xD

    • Maumac77

I highly doubt it since all we’ll be shown is screenshots halfway through the year……but I WANT them to prove me wrong

      • zferolie

I think they will give us a trailer at E3, and maybe a playable demo, if
what they say here is true. Still, I don’t think we will see it out
till next year. Maybe spring time.

        • Maumac77

That’s what I’m thinking as well as far as a release window, but hey we still got tons of goodness. Winwaker in the fall and most likely Mario Kart and 3D mario by winter

      • Ethan_Twain

Just for financial reasons, I reckon one will come out this year to make bank on the Holiday. It’s been Smash Bros has had longer in development so I would have guessed that to be the one, but hearing that we’ll only get screenshots makes me question that.

Retro Studios had a hand in crafting Mario Kart 7 (which is excellent) so if Nintendo is trying to get one of these games out real quick like, I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that Retro Studios has been working with the Japanese Mario Kart team again.

        • Maumac77

Agreed. I’m sure either Mario Kart or the new 3D mario game (possibly both) will be out by the winter. Considering that and the HD remake of Wind Waker in the fall, those alone should give them that bank they want. We waited about just as long for Brawl as well so I don’t mind it one bit

  • anthony apduhan

Come to me now Smash Bros. WiiU Come to me now! Feed me! Satisfy me!

  • Spirit Macardi

I’m seriously hoping that with Namco helping to work on the new Smash bros. that they’ll have Hideo Yoshizawa involved in some way. After all, him and Sakurai pretty much invented the 2.5D platformer, which the Smash games pretty much are (just with fighting elements added on).

  • Bayonetta in SSB thank you!!!

    • zferolie

Now THAT would be amusing. Though if the rumors are true and he isn’t adding many new characters, I don;t see her getting in.

I would so main her if she was in though

      • puchinri

I think he wasn’t implying that other new characters wouldn’t happen, but instead of focusing so heavily on which third parties to add, Sakurai wants to make sure he focuses on the Nintendo characters and then goes to the third party part as is fitting, not just throwing them in willy-nilly to entice people. (Which is a smart way of looking at it.)

  • Tonton Ramos

I just hope Smash needs improvement from the attack range or maybe the sword or weapon users like Link, Ike, etc. would increase there dept in attacking also I want the attack sounds to look more intense not sound like a scissors cutting a paper or a teeth biting…

  • Zonic505

OOOOOH I can’t wait to see Nintendo’s E3 press conference. This is going to be awesome.

    • zferolie

Gonna be loads better then last years!

  • AlteisenX

As long as Brawl physics are gone, and Online actually works, I’ll wait for SSB patiently. Couldn’t care less about Mario Kart since they half-ass them, giving us 16 new tracks, 16 old ones. I want 32 new ones -.-. Hoping the 3D Mario ditches the Galaxy/Sunshine/3D Land way, and goes into SM64 style playground levels. Mario Party has been hit and miss for me since Mario Party 3. I don’t know how there’s 9 of them now lol.

    • Norman Fong Ochoa

Well… I wonder why people criticize Brawl? It could be worse if there were one edition each year.

  • keithmaxx

I’m optimistic we’ll see a holiday release of some, if not all, of these titles this year. Remember that no Wii game has been under development by Nintendo since mid-2011 save for some like Kirby. Oh what a promising year this looks to be!

  • Masa

oh, lots of mario, who would have guessed, not interested in this old and tired series.

    • Too bad Mario is unanimously the King of Video Games and the industry itself. Plus, he is the role model for many game developers out there. Nope, I don’t see him retiring even after the 50th coming of Jesus. God bless them both.

    • Norman Fong Ochoa

Coming from someone who hasn’t EVEN played a Mario game in his life, those words are empty.

  • KingGunblader

I don’t really care about Mario Kart, I’ve still got Wii and 7, but I am QUITE eager to see what they’re cooking up for 3D Mario and especially Smash Bros.

  • Anime10121

Cant wait to see what they come up with! The Galaxy series was pretty good, hopefully this game will make me a fan much in the same way that Mario 3 did. I havent really been a fan of mario since 3, so hopefully this game’ll do it for me.

  • JoJo_649

I’m worried about SSB4 E3’s reveal, the screens and cameras will be wrecked by the screams of the fans and we will have to wait three hours for them to being fixed xD.

  • puchinri

Yay! So excited for E3! And really, really excited for these titles (amongst a lot of other stuff). They’ve made having a Wii U a very worthwhile purchase, pretty early on (at least with the info of upcoming titles).

I really need to save up for a Wii U, but it’s hard to do with certain titles coming out soon (and Fanime saving too).

  • Solomon_Kano

After how awesome the Galaxy games were and the potential that they have with the added power of the Wii U, this is easily the most excited I’ve ever been for a Mario game. Mario Kart 7 also brought me back into the fold on that series after not having played it since 64, so that should be awesome too. Hoo boy, E3 is gonna be GODLY.

  • kaizin

woot screen shots of the new smash bros plus game play of the new Mario kart what else could I wish for at E3.

  • KingRuff

Why do they torture us with this information so early? I am going to go blind staring at my computer for the next 5 months.
