Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon Has Worldwide Online Multiplayer [Update]

By Ishaan . January 24, 2013 . 10:15am

Famitsu magazine leaks teased earlier in the week that Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon had some sort of Internet support, but because of how the report was worded, we weren’t sure whether or not that referred specifically to online multiplayer. It turns out, it does. Nintendo have confirmed that Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon will have a multiplayer Hunter Mode, which you can play with other players worldwide. Take a look:

Update: Nintendo have released details on the multiplayer mode. In Hunter Mode, each player controls a different-coloured Luigi, and together they hunt down ghosts to clear each floor of the ScareScraper tower before time runs out. Bonuses and upgrades are earned depending on how well the team performs.

If one of the team members dies, he can be revived by his teammates. The number of floors can be chosen, ranging from five, 10 or 25. The difficulty can be selected as well, and each tower ends in a boss battle.

Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon is slated for release on March 24th in North America.

I havent played a Mario type game since I was seven…..It feels like eon’s ago,But this looks realy fun to me.

    • KingRuff

Not to be rude, but how old are you?

      • revenent hell

Im not realy sure why knowing my age matters but if it helps I remember him as being orriginally in Donkey Kong Jr.

Actually I pretty much stopped playing games like that untill I hit my teen years,I was more interested in fighting games at the time, surprising since im not to much a fan of them now,and by then I just wasnt interested in Mario any more since the appeal seemed to me to be more toward a younger croud and I was more interested in story aspect than anything else.

  • awesome!!!

  • Blazkn

Not really following the news about Luigi’s Mansion but I absolutely didn’t see that coming.

    Looks nice!

    • kylehyde

Same here. I admit that this game was not in my radar, but now is in my list of future purchases.

      • Blazkn

I’m still not 100% sure about buying the game, but now it certainly got my attention.

  • Makes you wonder why the hell they didn’t add online multiplayer to the NSMB series.

    • KingGunblader

RIGHT? It didn’t bother me on DS/Wii, but 3DS/WiiU have far superior online capability, so I don’t know why that hasn’t happened.

      • Spirit Macardi

It might be because NSMB is a series where it’s far easier to grief and troll other players, like grabbing all the items or landing on the other person just as he’s jumping over a pit.

Not that it can’t happen with local multiplayer too, but generally you’re not going to do anything when the other player can reach over and punch you in the face x3

        • KingGunblader

Haha that’s true. Playing NSMB Wii brings back fond, but painful memories. I can only imagine how much worse that would be online with strangers.

I have a feeling this was one of if not the reason why LM was delayed when it was supposed to be released last year. I’ll try out multiplayer once I’m done with the main part of the game.

  • KingGunblader

You know, I wasn’t interested in this before, but the online has me intrigued. Keep rollin’ Ninty!

  • Natat

I wonder if this’ll have the same issues I had with Mario Kart 7 in the Online Mode… damned 006-0612 Error was never able to beat it.

  • isotrex

    That’s a lot of Luigi. :)

  • So no additional characters (or E.Gadd the obvious alt character) but this is making me more excited to play this than I already was.

  • BadenBadenPrinny

After beating Luigi’s Mansion yesterday. My body is ready

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

This multiplayer is making my body ready.^_^ But sadly, my wallet is kinda not ready.T_T

  • Göran Isacson

Looks like a fun little idea… although I’m pretty sure someone out there is going to make a case for this being an example of Luigi, cracking under the pressure of always being “Mr Green” and in mario’s shadow, starts hallucinating other Luigi’s who follow his command and respect him and are his friends. His friends. Not Marios. Green is good. Red is DEAD…

… Okay so maybe I’m the one who’s going to write that story WHATEVER DON’T JUDGE ME I’M BORN THIS WAY.

Wonder if there’s gonna be a way for people who haven’t played the original Luigi’s Mansion before to play it without having to buy a new Gamecube.
