By Ishaan . January 28, 2013 . 10:30am

The PlayStation Vita version of Phantasy Star Online 2 will have an augmented reality feature, according a report at the Phantasy Star Fan Blog. The Vita version will allow you to put characters from the game in the real world and take pictures of them.

Additionally, a fictional idol named Kuna (above) is headed to Phantasy Star Online 2 at some point in the future. Kuna is voiced by Eri Kitamura, who voices Juri in Super Street Fighter IV. She’ll be performing with her band at the Arks Lobby in the game.

Phantasy Star Online 2 will be released for the PlayStation Vita in Japan on February 28th. You can read up on differences between the two versions here.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Sega……… seems to really like idol there.^_^ First Ulala, Miku and recently Yakuza 5 Haruka.
Ohh boy. When is Sega going to come out with IdolQueen game lol.^_^

  • Does she sing “My Boyfriend is a pilot”?

    • Demeanor

Bwahahaha your post made my day!!! Macross FTW (YT = L1nP2vYO24k) XD but seriously, Kuna? Queen Miku would roflstomp you ^ ^

    • Crazy_O

I actually thought this was an ingame reference because of how scrubby the pilots are in PSO2 always crashing, having us to protect them.

      • I am so late for this – but I laughed hard at this.

  • Masa

    urgh, less idols please.

    • They are your only defense against a Zentradi attack.

      • Demeanor

Aside from the Pinpoint barrier where you put 3-4 very panicky bishoujo with an ancient roll controller in hand, yelling “kyaaaahhhh!!! Dameeee!!!” while they are diverting enemy energy beams XD

      • M’iau M’iaut

But is her boyfriend a pilot?

  • Go2hell66

do we really need more virtual idols

doesn’t help that she’s fugly either

  • I demand Valkyrie costumes for the Casts, and pilot suits for the other races.

  • psycho_bandaid

Kinda surprised it wasn’t Miku. Anyway aren’t we supposed to be getting this game sometime soon.?

    • Richter

I don’t care much about idols but as much as I agree with you, I agree with you more on the getting the game part.

    • We are supposed to get the PC Version in early 2013. As for the Vita version, nothing has been said about this yet, as it still need to be released in Japan too.

      • Edzo

i feel like we are going to get fucked on the vita version

      • psycho_bandaid

hopefully they hurry it up before we all lose interest.

  • Namuro

I don’t know why some people are complaining about the virtual idol, I think it’s a nice feature and it adds depths into the PSO world. It’s not like they’re turning this into an idol game or anything, if they did then…. Anyway, we might as well embrace it as it’s a big part of the Japanese culture, just like how a lot of western games have bald space marines.

  • MillieChliette

Voiced by Eri Kitamura and all you have to mention is SSFIV?

  • GVmanX

    • Seink

Legend says that it should be released in the begining of this year, so maybe march, april or even may…..(But this legend is old and many things may have changed since, so don`t expect much….)
Its almost as if they are waiting for all hype to go away and people forget the game exists, so their server won’t be full on the first day and they will lose money and close the gameserver soon after saying it was a waste of time…..
Don’t get me wrong, I loved the game, its just that its frustrating to see a title with potential lose credits because it was released too late….

      • Crazy_O

I’m playing on japanese servers with an partly translated version. There is a fanmade patch out there that makes it playable. It’s great fun, though I joined with 3 friends which makes it even better.

  • Zenthos

Im surprised Sega hasn’t hired Hatsune Miku for the job. Then again, ive already grown tired of the tons of gaming references she has been part of. That’s one great breath of fresh air

    • Philip Elthorpe

Miku actually visited the Arks a few months back, SEGA gave her a special avatar just to do it.

  • M’iau M’iaut

Well considering there were plenty of Miku kits in PSPortable and PSU had both a Space Channel 5 reject and a faux magical girl, business as usual. Not that the business is bad, mind ya.

  • LynxAmali

    -Eri Kitamura

So we’ve got Lisa (Kana Hana)
Now we’ve got Kuna (Eri Kiita)

    • M’iau M’iaut

PSO has always had some amazing JP VAs. Even more amazing considering most folks just clicked through the darn story vids.

      • LynxAmali

It’s that this game is divine in VA considering who’ve they’ve gotten so far for VAs that’s getting me.

I stopped playing after the whole terms of use changed because I didn’t want my rear getting busted.

        • M’iau M’iaut

Similar terms of use were actually there if you played the import version of PSO on either DC or GC. It’s just this time they actually seem to be at least attempting enforcement.

  • Jake Caro

This is awesome! I can finally see more cool music videos in the lobby.
That TV was always cool, having actual cool things play on it will be even cooler!

  • Pythia Brixham

Am I the only one thinking “Put Hatsune Miku or some other Vocaloid in the game is you want an idol?”
