Why You Are Hunting Demons In Tecmo Koei’s Historical Hunting Game, Toukiden

Dynasty Warriors developer, Omega Force, revealed more story info regarding their upcoming historic hunting game, Toukiden.

A quick correction to our previous report, the Mononofu are in fact a group of people in Toukiden who are in charge of defeating the demons to bring peace to the land. For 1,000 years, the Mononofu have defended the people of their land from demons and were the unsung heroes of their time.

After a long era of peace, a great disaster occurred. The heavens and earth were split as the time warped, suddenly, a vast amount of demons began to overflow the land. The demons destroyed land and took the lives of many, as they conquered the realm. That’s when the Mononofu decided to step up and do what they did many centuries ago, exterminate demons.

The Mononofu took the surviving people to a village and then confronted the demons. Seven days and seven nights of fierce battles went on, and the Mononofu won the battle, however, not the war.  The disaster marked an event in history, known as “Oomagadoki”. As defenders of mankind, the Mononofu devoted their lives to protect the people from the demons.

Eight years passed and the fight against the demons continue. In Toukiden a new warrior (that’s you!) of Mononofu steps up to put an end to their tyranny.

Toukiden is slated for release in 2013 for the PlayStation Vita and PSP.

The screenshots are impressive, but I’m going to need an actual trailer for better judgement.
Still, the designs really have me look forward to this.

It’s always a pleasure to see Omega Force being able to do other things that don’t have “Musou” in the title. Also, considering that their last attempt at a “MonHun-like” (re: Strikeforce/Multi-Raid) was the only game of its ilk that I really enjoyed, I have my eyes on this.

    • Seconded. DW Strikeforce was an amazing PSP Game, especially with Co-Op. I can’t wait to get my hands on this game!

destrega was a real breath of fresh air as well – they should revive those mechanics or at least re-release on ps3 as a HD version (which they may have done – i haven’t checked, so if they have ignore this message and carry on)…

I was surprised to hear that had already been announced back in September. Low-key debuts definitely don’t do anyone any good.

Now that we’re getting shots though, I think it just jumped to the top of my most-wanted list. Great style.

The absence of a MH title on the Vita is encouraging some really good hunting genre games: this, Ragnarok Odyssey, Soul Sacrifice, God Eater 2. If any of these is a hit, Sony’s fortunes could sharply turn in Japan. Oh, and Assasin’s Creed Vita sold like 600K, Ubisoft annouced yesterday. So software definitely sells on the device (P4G did well too), its just a matter of being the right product.

  • I quite enjoy the MH style games. The fact that this deals with fuedal Japan and is looking gorgeous bumped it up really highly on my anticipation list. Hopefully one of these sorts of games can hit it off in Japan and bump the Vita’s popularity up. As much as I love my 3DS (especially right now!) I really want more games for the Vita.

Cannot wait to see gameplay of this one and hopefully it turns out to be a winner!

this, God eater and soul sacrifice.. way too many hunting type games and so little time..

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

^_^ More Hunting type game is always nice. Especially considering how Koei rarely pop out new IP after Fab style.

    Getting an Otogi feel

Well, it’s not as if I need a reason to slay demons in video games, but as long as I save humanity as a side effect of this slayage, why not? Looks a lot more interesting to me than Dynasty Warriors.

    this game looks fantastic!

    and screams….
    Ninja Scroll-the devils
    Tenchu-dark atmosphere
    Rikimaru-white hair
    Baiken-that girl
Phantasy Star Online 2-customizable chara and multi-player
    Asura’s Wrath-style
Metal Gear Rizing – cut mechanics
    Dynasty Warriors-detailed graphics

    looks promising to me

one of the best looking games on any platform

    Long Live Play!

I always welcome another MonHun-esque game. There’s no gameplay trailer or explanation of the game system yet, but I already like how you have to destroy and purify the demons limb-by-limb, just have to wait and see what the real thing is like.
I also hope that they would have a lot of interesting weapons to choose from, and of course, a lot of demon-inspired armours that you can craft from the bosses!

I’m keeping my eye on this game now…

  • looks nice.
