NeoGeo X Getting New Games Like Metal Slug 2 And Fatal Fury: Mark Of The Wolves

By Spencer . February 22, 2013 . 1:07am

Correction: NeoGeo X Classics Volume I only has three games, not fifteen as previously mentioned. The first compilation includes Metal Slug 2, Sengoku, and Top Hunter. Twelve other games will be released in NeoGeo Classics Volumes II-V at a later date.

Tommo finally announced plans to release new games for the NeoGeo X. The NeoGeo X handheld/console will get fifteen new games including Metal Slug 2 and Fatal Fury on one cartridge. Upcoming NeoGeo X Classics games include:

Art of Fighting 3

Blazing Star

Breakers Revenge

Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves

Kizuna Encounter

The King of Fighters ’96

The Last Blade 2

Metal Slug 2

Samurai Shodown III

Savage Reign

Shock Troopers

Super Sidekicks 3: The Next Glory

Top Hunter

World Heroes Jet

NeoGeo X Classics: Volume 1 which has Metal Slug 2, Sengoku, and Top Hunter also has a system update on the card, but Tommo didn’t outline what the update addresses. They asked fans to wait for more details about System Update 1.0 in the coming weeks.

NeoGeo X Classics: Volume 1 will be available in stores in late April. A price for the game card was not announced. Tommo will also bundle a Rocket high-speed data transfer and charging cable with each cartridge.

I really wanted a NeoGeo X to get into the games but i’ve heard bad things about it from others and also good things.

Anyway it’s nice to hear that they are releasing more games for it might make me pick up one sooner.

  • Zhizn Snake

Yes! I’ve been waiting for this news… and MotW already?? I was expecting it further down the line. And… Last Blade 2, Breakers Revenge, Metal Slug 2, Blazing Star <3 <3 <3 I just hope this is priced well.. I kind of wish they were going in order with the other series, though, rather than all over the place.

If the update just makes unibios enabled for all games, I'll be satisfied with my Neo Geo X purchase. I've been reading about ways to do it by hacking but it appears to only be possible by enabling it for each individual game (at least at this point). I'd much rather just have it enabled officially… I really hope Tommo and SNK will be addressing the complaints, as that's the best way to prevent hacking if they don't want it happening.

Also, I have a cousin who also owns one, and we're always saying how it sucks that there's no way to connect for multiplayer when we're playing portably…

Grrrrrrr. I blame my eyes for not being accurate here.T_T
I thought, we are going to see a new title for Mark of The Wolves series here.T_T

    • AkuLord3

Its ok i also thought the same…SNK better still be “working” on it

    • Don’t worry, you weren’t the only one drawn by MotW in a header.

  • AkuLord3

Alot of awesome games in this, Would like to get a Neo Geo X one day.

  • Göran Isacson

Last Blade 2 is the kind of gorgeous game that alone could ALMOST make a purchase like this worth it… but I would also have to have another person buy it, and I don’t know if I have that many other parties interested in playing old Neo Geo games with me :(

    • Zhizn Snake

Yeah, getting the Neo Geo X online is really the first thing they should have thought about when they started it’s development… instead, they didn’t implement it at all.

Major correction that’s being misreported all over the place by people who aren’t checking their sources:

Tommo actually announced they are releasing five volumes, with 3 games per volume. Not one 15 game card. Direct quote from the press release (

“NEOGEO X Classics: Volume I will blasts onto North American retail shelves in late April 2013, and will dazzle action fans with shoot ’em up classics METAL SLUG, SENGOKU, and TOP HUNTER, all on one NEOGEO X Game Card!”

Note the mistake in the press release regarding “Metal Slug”. This must mean Metal Slug 2, since MS2 is listed in their 15 games, and MS1 is already preloaded on the system.

    • Zhizn Snake

Damn, thanks for that info… I really hope these are prices nicely… >.<

    • David Bruno

That was my bad for overlooking that on the release. Yes, it is METAL SLUG 2, SNEGOKU, and TOP HUNTER on NEOGEO X Classics: Vol. I. Thanks, Neo.

And as for the games… pretty good selection overall. I like seeing some of the good but more obscure fighters: Breakers Revenge, Savage Reign, Kizuna Encounter, even Art of Fighting 3 (well known series, but a game that hasn’t been ported to eternity). And we get some of the elite later releases that are the pinnacle of the system: Garou, Last Blade 2, Blazing Star

But then we get a few games that make me wish they went with something else:
    – KOF ’96: Really, ’96? Why not fan favorite ’98, or a more recent entry like 2002 or 2003?

    – Samurai Shodown 3: Kind of a black sheep of the series, SS4 is much more polished and would have been a more appealing choice.

    – Sengoku and Shock Troopers: Not bad games, but would have been AWESOME to see Sengoku 2 or Shock Troopers 2nd Squad, games that haven’t been ported nearly as often.

    • Zhizn Snake

100% agree with this, but I’d have liked Sengoku 3 over either Sengoku 1 or 2. Still, maybe they’re trying to mix the better ones with the less popular ones so that the bundles have people getting a mix of the two, rather than have some games end up with hardly any sales.

    • ’96 is a fine choice, even if it’s just for the soundtrack and (ugh!) Goenitz.

  • Wow…that is…a really good lineup. A lot of good titles in that list.

  • nilcam

Too bad the emulation is sooo bad on the Neo Geo X.

  • zero254

Neogeo expensive back in the day, and are still expensive now.

That being said, what a good selection of quality games.

  • Mark of the Wolves is such a great game. That’s enough for me to buy the Neogeo X alone.
