One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 Collector’s Edition In Europe Has Luffy Figurine

By Ishaan . March 20, 2013 . 9:00am

Namco Bandai are releasing a collector’s edition of One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 in Europe, the publisher announced this morning.

Slated for release in August, the collector’s edition will include a 14cm figurine of Luffy, created by sculptor Keiji Iwakura, and manufactured by Banpresto. You can order this—or the game’s regular edition—on its official website. Pre-order bonuses, Namco say, will be announced at a later date.

North America is getting One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 on the PlayStation 3 as well, but Namco Bandai will release it as a download-only game in that region.

Why can’t the US get these…:(

    • Brion Valkerion

Because Sony America, A Japanese owned company, has the stupidest effing rule EVER in the past 3 years. “Games with only Japanese voice acting need to be Download only instead of physical release, unless the game takes place in Japan.” is basically how it rounds out. Meaning Yakuza is the only game with Japanese only voices allowed a disc release.

This rule is enforced for believe it or not anime games as well. Because One Piece does not take place in Japan, it will not get a physical release unless they add English acting… Same for Dynasty Warriors, because it takes place in China, ect. ect. not matter if the Original version is in fact Japanese.

Like I said, stupidest effing thing ever that needs to really be called out.

      • Brandonmkii

I really don’t think this is a legit rule they have, just an awful series of coincidences.

      • Luna Kazemaru

uhh agarest war 2 is JP dub only and it was on disk as well as Zero so that doesn’t hold true.

      • M’iau M’iaut

Three years? This just piggybacks off stories of ‘why we never got X’ all the way back to the first Playstation. And every system generation has found multiple exceptions to the rule.

      • LittleMofreaky

They should dub it and fucking release it then.

        • Testsubject909

That means paying a fee to Funimation I’d imagine as well as hiring the voice actors as well. Considering how sales are for the Warriors series in the US comparatively to anywhere else, cost efficiency is probably what they aim for and unfortunately this is what we get.

          • LittleMofreaky

You’ve gotta spend money to make money. All they’re doing is making the series less popular here and alienating fans of Funimation’s One Piece.

          • Testsubject909

Most companies in NA tend to look at short term quarterly profit, there might have been a slow recent change in the past few years, but usually if profit is not worth the risk within, say, one to four years, they won’t give a damn.

      • Testsubject909

I don’t think the “except if it’s set in Japan” is part of the rule.

Really it’s more that we’ve had exceptions bleed out and the inconsistency to the rule is pissing people off. Either they be pricks and just maintain the rule all the time or they drop that silly rule since the game’s going to get released one way or the other.

Nothing stop US ppl from importing it from EU

  • zferolie

I am tempted just to import the Europe one just for this… but will that make me miss out on DLC?

    • grevlinghore

Can`t you just make a PSN account for a European country?

      • Pombar

Yes, but then you’d have to buy prepaid Euro/GBP cards, which would be expensive – plus things generally cost more in EU territories, so they might end up paying up to twice the cost for the same DLC.

  • Nas

The “official website” leads to nowhere.

    • The Watcher

      works for me

  • Amazon lists it at 90€, which in my case is pretty fine considering most games in Germany cost 60-70€ anyway. Guess I’ll get this one, the more One Piece the better~

  • Corey Owens

    “official website” hyperlink not working

  • Nitraion

    *Looks at official website”
Wow bamco UK really into it i like when publisher make effort to publish their game with own official website… the design is different with japan one like it….

  • noctis_nox

    My god! that’s awesome quality.
I already have the first CE and this will definitely look good besides thousand sunny.

  • raulrain

why I felt a slap in the face? tell namco-bandai WHY!!!? I know that you know that I know why but still . . . . . WHY!!??

  • Sergio Briceño

This one figure looks so awesome. I’m no fan of One Piece or this game, but I would so get this figure if I didn’t have to pay for the game too. And you have to add the fact that you can only get it in Europe, sigh…

  • YoshEE

Again as in download?! Now that is stupid AGAIN!!

    • Testsubject909

Because One Piece is popular everywhere else in the world except with mainstream audiences in North America in great parts due to 4Kid’s botched job at localizing the anime (insert very painful youtube clip here).

And because the Warriors series gets an unfair bad rep from a lot of reviewers who really just don’t care for the game and tend to bash it down more without touching on quite a few of the intricacies as they would with other games that they choose to review, discouraging sales to a series that already doesn’t sell that well in NA comparatively to EU, making it more cost efficient for them to release these side-games to us digitally despite complaints…

      So yeah…

      • Samurai_Heart

It’s depressing as hell that the UK One Piece popularity was also affected by 4Kids through this way as well T-T, the first game’s collector’s edition skipped the UK =(, hope they don’t do it this time…

        • Testsubject909

Your avatar right now. Very fitting.

Edit: And I checked the website. The collector’s edition from their site only ships to other parts of the EU region.

      • YoshEE

True and I agree with you but it just suck. :(

  • Testsubject909

    Well. Import confirmed for me.

  • Jesse Torres

The us. actually plays these games, and they should be hardcopy not some download.

  • OverlordZetta

Well, I guess this confirms that Europe isn’t even getting the Vita one. I was really hoping when I imported I could at least be able to read it – alas.

    • Samurai_Heart

They had confirmed no Vita version a while back, would have loved it…wouldn’t have taken too much effort as well, I’d reckon…=(

      • OverlordZetta

Well, US had confirmed but I’d been holding out hope for Europe even so. Guess its Japanese for me.

  • Testsubject909

Ah, freaking hell. The collector’s edition from the official website is only available for people in the EU region…

Well, time to look at alternative sites for imports and see if they’ll have the option to ship to Canada.

    Edit: Aaand… no luck…
