Eidos Montreal and Square Enix have released a new trailer for the upcoming Thief game in development for PC, PlayStation 4 and other next-generation consoles. The cinematic trailer shows the game’s protagonist Garrett performing one of his trademark thefts:

As previously reported, Eidos Montreal say that you’ll be able to complete the game without killing anyone and that the game will give Garrett a new “Focus” ability that he can use in conjunction with his lock-picking and marksman skills.

Wow I hope I’m wrong but it seems to me that this game is going to be pretty much assassins creed. square enix really need to be more imaginative and create more original games.

    • Ferrick

thief came to be since 1997…
its been there far longer than assassins creed, and was accepted by players to be a good game too

    • Zeik56

Hopefully it won’t be Assassin’s Creed, because Thief has been around much longer than that and should not play like those games if done right.

    • Raos

It looks more like it’s going to be another Thief, you know, that legendary 16 years old stealth game series

    • NeoAthanasius

This will not be like AC. They penalty for being seen in a Thief game is pretty severe. Also you generally have extremely limited arrows, and have to rely on your trusty black-jack. If you haven’t played a Thief game before, I highly recommend it. Just be warned that the graphics are going to be slightly dated.

“We had a lot that was coming from Assassin’s Creed, so Assassin’s Creed at some point influenced the game.”

  • Guest

I hope I’m wrong but this game looks like it will be pretty much assassins creed. and that would be fairly hard to out-do as the assassins creed games are quite a good games.

    • I don’t know about that. Assassin’s Creed has all but done away with stealth in the more recent games, whereas Thief is explicitly a stealth game.

    • Ferrick

continuing on with what ishaan said, in thief, stealth IS important because you can easily die if you’re spotted, unlike in assassins creed

  • FetusZero

For some reason I feel I’ve just watched Rikimaru from Tenchu.

  • JustThisOne

Man, I’m pretty fond of these environments already… :> I just hope it’s not going to be this dark forever. My TV sucks at dealing with these levels of darkness, haha.

  • IshimaruKaito

everybody is saying it reminds them of “Assassins Creed” but it just reminds me of “Dishonored”

    • JustThisOne

And I’m damn glad of it. :> Dishonored was influenced by Thief after all, and they did very will with their own spin on it… In my opinion, anyway.

      Super stoked for this.

  • isfuturebright

Let’s hope they really invest on the stealth part and not on the friendly everyone can play “stealth game” like AC e.e

I shall strive to resist killing anyone in this game.
I ended up killing people in Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
Couldn’t help it. Killing people is FUNFUNFUN.

  • Göran Isacson

Have to admit that I like the look of this trailer, but I’ll be needing to see some gameplay before I can breathe easy regarding how true this game sticks to the roots. Also: I laughed a little at how Garret actually stole the title.
