Dynasty Warriors 8 is headed to North America and Europe, Tecmo Koei announced this morning. While in Japan the game is a PlayStation 3–only title, the localized version will be released for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Dynasty Warriors 8 features multiple endings and “What If” scenarios that ignore historical facts to explore what would have happened if certain characters hadn’t died. Tecmo Koei say that the game will have over 70 playable characters in all.

Dynasty Warriors 8 will reach North America on July 16th and Europe on July 12th. The game will feature Japanese voices and subtitles in English, French and German.

‘The game will feature Japanese voices and subtitles in English, French and German.’

Not sure about this. Some of the characters have already been confirmed to be voiced by English voice actors…

    • http://steamcommunity.com/id/noumi_kud Kudryavka

I guess this means they plan to throw in dual-audio options, but I’m not sure.

Apparently the option for Japanese voices is available as a DLC for DW7.

      • http://fr.twitch.tv/Nhatalya Aleksandrina

Yup~ DW7 have both English and Japanese voices (DLC), so we can assume it’ll be the same for DW8 too.

        • http://steamcommunity.com/id/noumi_kud Kudryavka

          Ah I haven’t played DW6 or 7, so I wasn’t sure – found the result from a quick google~

Hm, I assume you tried DW7, with Japanese voices? :)
If you have played it, what did you think of the Japanese dubs?

          • http://fr.twitch.tv/Nhatalya Aleksandrina

            I prefer them over the English ones. They’re definitely more fitting to the characters. Some of the English dubs are good though, but overall, the Japanese dubs are better. Of course, it is only my opinion. Can’t speak for other. ^_^;

          • Luna Kazemaru

IMO I find the english actors alot better I have gripes with sima zaho’s JP actor and zhang liao, Guan Yu, (well most people in wei) all sound pretty manly

          • http://steamcommunity.com/id/noumi_kud Kudryavka

Sure, thanks for letting me know!
I’ll definitely give it a go when DW8 is out then. Just wanted to know what a more experienced fan thinks of the differences.
I hope I also like the Japanese dubs, I’m just too used to the English ones in DW5, haha.

By the way, I just checked your Disqus profile and spotted a few small mistakes :P

          • Luna Kazemaru

You should really play DW7 honestly its an improvement of DW5 and 6 in terms of story.

          • http://steamcommunity.com/id/noumi_kud Kudryavka

Ahhh but then I would have less time to try out DW8…
Is 7 really worth that extra time?

          • Luna Kazemaru

well Its really up to you if you have the money and time honestly but I’m saying is 8 took alot of changes made in 7 and I think WO3.

          • http://steamcommunity.com/id/noumi_kud Kudryavka

            Time is the bigger issue at hand for me unfortunately. So erm, do you mean 8 will be better or worse than 7 by that? I’m not sure how to take it ^-^;

          • http://fr.twitch.tv/Nhatalya Aleksandrina

Oh, trust me, it is far better than 7. The most improved aspect about the game is definitely the story, thanks to the what-if branches of each faction. But in the end, the game is just a enhanced version of 7, and not really a proper new DW game with lots of changes.

          • Luna Kazemaru

Pretty much what @disqus_TCYR5YoDw5:disqus said & was a better improvement of 1-6 and 8 is basically updated looks and not alot of clones

          • http://fr.twitch.tv/Nhatalya Aleksandrina

            Which ones? :C

Concerning DW8, well, I already have the Japanese version, and… the game quickly became boring to me. That’s sad really, because I was a looong fan of the DW series, but now I can barely play it anymore… Gameplay. The gameplay is too repetitive, and overall the game feels so much like a DW7.2.

          • http://steamcommunity.com/id/noumi_kud Kudryavka

            Well, for starters:

            on France > in France
            JRGPs > JRPGs
            Fightning > Fighting
            hesite > Hesitate

            Hope that helped~ :)

That was my problem with playing DW5 – the gameplay is basically the same as 4. If anything, I’m in it mostly for the storyline now ._.

I just realized Disqus does not have messaging services so people can’t talk to me directly without replying to a comment :<

            Edit-
Would you happen to have Steam, and would you like to chat there instead?

          • http://fr.twitch.tv/Nhatalya Aleksandrina

Sure. :) Go on my Disqus profil. There’s my Skype ID. (Don’t have Steam, sorry).

            And yup, that’s the problem. I like the Three Kingdoms history, so that’s why I enjoy the stories of the DW games, and its characters, but having 77 characters with the exact same pattern is just boring. Square + Triangle all the time, ugh. ;_;

          • http://steamcommunity.com/id/noumi_kud Kudryavka

Alright, I’ll get on Skype and add you after I had dinner :)
I’m surprised not many people seem to have Steam on Siliconera xD

It is great fun. The battle of red cliff (Chibi) has an interesting story behind it, whether it was true in history or not is another question though~

          • http://steamcommunity.com/id/noumi_kud Kudryavka

            Hm, maybe try restarting Skype?

I can see your messages and it says mine are sent~ oh feel free to remove + re-add me if you need to try!

          • Alexander Marquis Starkey

Yeah but all those moves still do different things, and it’s more prevalent with the newer movesets and new combo properties.

          • Alexander Marquis Starkey

          • http://fr.twitch.tv/Nhatalya Aleksandrina

Not sure… I’ve the game, and many of them have basically the same pattern attack. Even the effects are the same. What changes is the animation, really… l_l At least, not having always ‘Square + Triangle’ will be a good start.

          • Alexander Marquis Starkey

…No, I can tell just by watch videos, all the moves have different properties between what uses elements, knocks enemies skyward, where it would got place weapon switches, and just where you need to abuse your characters mobility…plus all those different animations are still fun, SCHWAG SURFIIIIIIN!

As for the Square/Charge Attack system, it would be nice if DW played more like One Piece does with their movesets, but in order for that to happen the characters would their movesets seriously overhauled. Hell the game itself would either have to take longer to release just animate all of those characters and recode their movesets again, or they’d have to cut a chunk of characters and just readd them through either DLC or the expansions/next main series games.

Definitely. :) But yup, that’ll be A LOT of characters to revamp. Not sure it they can do it… (i.e. DW6). I believe for that they’ll have to cut some characters, and maybe re-introduce them in XL. Something a la One Piece would be great. I’ve the first one and the second one that was released recently in Japan, and I can tell you that the gameplay feels so new and fresh.

          • Alexander Marquis Starkey

Actually wasn’t 5 said to just polish and make better what DW5 did right?

          • http://steamcommunity.com/id/noumi_kud Kudryavka

Erm, I assume you meant 4 ’cause you wrote 5 twice :p
I honestly don’t know, maybe someone else can clarify.

          • Alexander Marquis Starkey

…But, better combos, juggling enemies until the die, stylish combo videos incoming…either way, DW is one of those games that even if you get bored, you can put it down, and pick it up again a month or two later and get back into it.

          • http://fr.twitch.tv/Nhatalya Aleksandrina

Style combo videos? :P I’m much more looking forward to the BASARA games for that, hehe.

The thing is that DW have now an outdated gameplay. It is time for a change, I mean a really big change. DW9 hopefully. But don’t know, they’ve 77 characters… Will be 80 in XL. I believe that’s why they need to take a lot of time to properly develop the next one. New characters aren’t the only thing.

The game will have english dubs too, according to some guys on koeiwarriors

  • Brimfyre

Damn I was really hoping for a WiiU version.

  • Alexander Marquis Starkey

Thar yah go, felt this needed to noted.

  • LETS PRAY FOR LOCALIZATION

    Was there ever any doubt?

    • http://fr.twitch.tv/Nhatalya Aleksandrina

Not really…? Or only in the KOEI Warriors site. Was obvious that the game would come overseas, like all the other ones in the series.

      • Luna Kazemaru

Koel warriors need to do something about all those videos plaster on they main page it makes my flash player crash lol

    • Testsubject909

Only on whether or not it’d get retail.

  • gustinex

cant wait ! loved the story mode in 7

    • Vash bane

sigh know I want that game even more lol

  • Luna Kazemaru

    Time to buy it again

  • Sardorim

    Good.

It’s about time the West can bask in the Second Coming of Zhao Yun – Wen Yang.

  • Masa

the game also has English dub, as the English voice actors said so on twitter.

    • pimpalicious

That can never be relied on though. One or more voice actors also said they were recording again for Vesperia and the PS3 version never came to the West. I wouldn’t count on it until it’s official.

      • http://fr.twitch.tv/Nhatalya Aleksandrina

I know that Dong Zhuo’s voice actor stated that he had finished recording all of Dong Zhuo’s lines in the game. And it was confirmed by TECMO KOEI’s EU manager as well. :)

      • Alexander Marquis Starkey

Chin Sun Soon confirmed it himself in the gamr’s podcast. You should look for that video if you haven’t already.

Well, at least they have announced Western release ^_^
I don’t mind they’re having Japanese voice or English voice

  • Warboss Aohd

i dunno about gettin’ da 360 version, what if dey pull da ‘release main game on both consoles, but xtreme legends on just one’ bull?

    • neospite

yeah exactly, this is why I got the PS3 version because they shafted the Xbox.

  • pimpalicious

Since it’s a main numbered title, hopefully a physical release? I’ll buy it either way though.

    • raymk

Its a physical release anytime it has english VA.

    • Alexander Marquis Starkey

It’s confirmed that it will be released retail…I still say that you should get use to digital copies cause that’s where gaming is going.

  • http://crono-trigger.tumblr.com/ SilverCrono

I kinda hope they go with dual audio for this one. I do think that the Japanese audio works with the characters better, but I always like the battle voices better in English. Y’know, like the grunts and death cries and Musou voices.

    ._. Am I weird?

    • Testsubject909

As a Chinese person, I’ll say the Japanese Audio is just as alien as the English audio on fictional takes on historical figures of importance in Chinese history.

Considering that, I’d much rather it be in English. The Japanese voice acting is fine and all, but some of the voices to me unfortunately gets connected back to the voice actor who tend to play out the same role repeatedly (Xiahou Dun for example, can’t listen to him without having my mind wander to all the other similar roles the person has taken and the fact that the person never provides any actual alteration to his voice.)

      • Alexander Marquis Starkey

Well hold on now, Xiahou Dun’s actor is Kirk Thornton, who in the same actor who does Meng Huo. Even even then, while you can tell it’s him most of the time since has a very distinct voice, he’s voiced all kind of characters and the have very different kinds of voices.

        • Warboss Aohd

dat’s Cause it’z da Great King Mengu Huo.

An’ Great King Meng Huo iz Great King…….he’z practically an’ Ork Warboss.

    • Ixbran

It is confirmed for both english and japanese audio, dont worry.

  • Learii

so no english audio huh well i feel kinda bad because i can’t read what they say when i fighting but i glad is coming to USA =D

    • Masa

there is English audio, this article left it out for some reason.

    • raymk

English audio is confirmed, heck being a disk release automatically confirms it.

      • Firekitty

Not so. They aren’t COMMON, but the thing about disk releases requiring an English dub has been proven as a myth several times over.

Though I’ll be happier if it’s dual audio, since it’ll make everyone happy (even if I, personally don’t care about English dubbing).

        • http://twitter.com/Nevfx Nevfx

It’s not a myth -.- SCEA DOES NOT, as a matter of principle apparantly, publish onto discs games without English dubs, fact. That was the explanation given for WO3 not having a disc version. Now in Europe, it would be hypocritical of SCEE to follow the same trend, as Europe is obviously made up of lots of languages anyway.

And it IS dual audio. This article left A LOT of stuff out.

          • Firekitty

Except there HAVE been some games released on disk with only the Japanese track. On the PS2 there were the Yakuza games and this one weird game called ‘Trapt’ or something. PS3 has Yakuza and the Agarest Wars games. PSP has the Hakuoki games at least (though since they were released after the Vita’s debut, maybe that’s more a matter of Sony just not giving a damn anymore).

So while it’s certainly possible and plausible that Sony might DISCOURAGE physical releases of games with no English dub, it’s clearly not a hard and fast rule.

  • Jungo

I was so worried this wasn’t going to happen, I’m really glad to finally get the news.

  • MrJechgo

Hmrph… wish Samurai Warriors gets to same treatment…

    • Luna Kazemaru

Apparently a new one is coming out next year

      • http://fr.twitch.tv/Nhatalya Aleksandrina

Yeah, in February~ They better make this game great! And not Wii U exclusive. And overseas release!

        • Luna Kazemaru

well to then I got WO3 for my SW fix

  • Masa

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YizvxLoDoUw

    Listen from 2:10.

    English Audio confirmed

    • Testsubject909

Woo! Then it has a chance at retail!

      • Masa

It is also retail for both Regions.

  • YoshEE

All I can say is YES YES YES!!!

  • Riseabovethesky

No good reason to get this after Warriors Orochi 3. I’m looking forward for a next-gen Dynasty Warriors though. It would be so cool if they could implemented a multiplayer mode where every officer is a player!

    • Alexander Marquis Starkey

WO3′s story mode was meh, the if Routes in this game and all the replay value more than make it better…plus better combo mechanics make combos look like less flashy sengoku basara.

    • Luna Kazemaru

You know nothing of this game and you say WO3 is better? wow

      • Riseabovethesky

What I meant is I personally feel like I already experienced everything the Warriors games can offer in term of gameplay this generation except for maybe some small alterations here and there. Also, I don’t play them for the story, that and the fact I was talking for myself wasn’t clear in my last post. What I like about Warriors Orochi 3 is the 132 playable characters, the rest is pretty much the same old formula, which I still enjoy in small doses.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001059050301 Jermaine Kanhai

It does look awesome, but do the characters have magical powers and such?

    • Alexander Marquis Starkey

It’s never explained in story but there are just some pretty cool effects and elements and stuff. There are characters who are implied to be sorcerers of some kind (Zuo Ci) but this series is loosely based on a book that was loosely based historical events.

    • Vash bane

didn’t you ask this same question months ago?

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001059050301 Jermaine Kanhai

Not that I recall. Apparently, you have been tracking me down for months or you have the absurd ability to remember insignificant forum posts from many months ago.

        • Vash bane

hm maybe lol even tho I have short terms
but any way yeah alex answered about right :)

  • Sesshomaru

    YAY!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Pichi

Hope Ishaan updates to say it’ll have English VA as well. Not sure why that was left out.

  • Alexander Marquis Starkey

I think what people aren’t paying attention are the new aspects of gameplay and I’m not talking about the New Version of the Weapon Switch System (speaking of which I do not like storm rush), but the combo system has been revamped and while it’s not as flashy, the combos look really cool now, and Jiang Wei’s new weapon makes him AWESOME FOR COMBOS! His air presence isn’t as good as Guan Xing’s, but he’s still very good for air combos, and on ground combos.

  • Vash bane

awesome :O a game worthy of adding to my collection ;p
