Mayuri Faces An Inevitable Tragedy In Steins;Gate: Linear Bounded Phenogram

By Sato . April 7, 2013 . 3:00pm

5pb have shared a look at a key scenario from Steins;Gate: Linear Bounded Phenogram, showing the inevitable tragedy surrounding Mayuri Shiina and Kurisu Makise.

The footage starts out with Mayuri Shiina visiting her grandmother’s grave, where she unexpectedly meets Rintaro Okabe who had been waiting for her at the site. It was apparent to Mayuri that Okabe looked exhausted and she found it hard to speak to him as she only blamed herself for his current disposition. She decided to make small talk by explaining how she had a dream of this exact situation of both her and Okabe visiting her grandmother’s grave.

Just as she was about to speak her mind about herself being the reason Okabe has been stressed, he scolds her by telling her that she isn’t a burden at all. After being comforted and assured that she is not a burden, Mayuri tells Okabe that he hasn’t been the same lately, but she can’t quite put her finger on what’s wrong.

Okabe replies: “Mayuri, I’m sorry to make you worry like that… I only ask if you could refrain from asking any questions for now. When the time comes that I can say something, I promise to tell you. So, please…”

Mayuri agrees after considering how much pain she’s made him suffer through, and still can’t help but feel she’s a burden. However, she lightens the mood by offering to get some sweet dango, because eating good food is always a great way to cheer up. After lightly joking about Mayuri being a glutton, the two finish paying their respects to her grandmother and leave to get sweets.

The second part starts with Mayuri telling Kurisu Makise that she doesn’t want her to disappear and there has to be a way to prevent that from happening. Kurisu tells her that she’s thought of every possible way, but no matter what she does, Mayuri’s death would be inevitable if the world line isn’t back to normal, and by doing so would mean her own death.

Kurisu explains that Okabe  has been working tremendously hard to find a way to save the both of them, having done countless time leaps to find any possibility, but to no avail. She tells Mayuri that at this point, the reason Okabe continues to time leap is due to his denial of knowing the inevitable. Kurisu then explains that if Mayuri’s previous fatalism is correct, the world line in which Kurisu has already died in, is the original world line. For that reason, she has already convinced Okabe to save Mayuri instead, which incidentally took a lot of convincing.

Kurisu does her best to smile and asks Mayuri to accept what is meant to be. However, no matter how much she tries to convince Mayuri, the young girl will not accept a world where her friend is destined to die. All she can do is blame herself and apologize for not knowing any better.

5pb’s Steins;Gate: Linear Bounded Phenogram is slated to be released on April 25th for PlayStation 3.

    Also, go watch the anime!

  • All this can be put in one sentence: “This is pretty much mayuri’s ending continuation”

  • MrTyrant

Cool spoilers bro. I want to hear more please.

    • I admit they should probably say “spoilers” in the beginning, but dude, you cant really expect no spoilers from a game’s news that is promoted as another game’s direct sequel.

      • MrTyrant

Like i said, i like this article and i want to keep reading it. You propably felt sarcasm in my sentence but i was serious lol

        • You should had been more clear, you know how these kind of sarcasms are in 90% of the internet u.u

    • This is the equivalent of Book of Shadows for S;G. You expect no spoilers? You are in the wrong thread.

      • MrTyrant

lol I WAS ASKING FOR SPOILERS. Not the contrary, that’s why i said “i want to hear more” well, more accurally “read”

        • Whtever. There will be 10 chapters and I assume one for each member and Mr Braun.

  • negineBIT

If this doesn’t get an anime version, I will be sad. Cause heaven knows the US will never get this.

    • I don’t think so. This is basically the same scenario but with diffrent POV. Though S;G LBP seems to also contain new scenario which I highly doubt is canon. Think of it as some of the chapters of CP: Books of Shadows.

      EDIT Some errors fixed.

      • MrTyrant

Book of shadow was canon. Part of the story are about what happened of the side characters before the first game and lastly the secret chapter is an epilogue of the true ending for the first game. The true conclusion. Now if this will be connected with Corpse Party 2 it’s hard to say.

Now correct me if you want, but this new S;G seems to contain epilogue of each character ending from the first novel right? then it’s more like rewrite harving festa it seems. Nothing uncommon in the vn community although i did not expect this for S;G. Cool.

  • Finally Okabe gets sprites for himself XD

Man I wish this game will get translated but its on PS360…

    • brian

Supposedly this series won’t get translated because of licensing issues with music/voice acting or something like that.

      • Well, 99% of the time you won’t be seeing Okabe expression in the original VN so I’m just curious XD

  • Neppygear

More Steins;Gate is always a nice thing. Alternate POVs could be interesting, too.

  • João Madalena

If this was released for PC I would be exicted, cause sooner or later there’s always a possibility of fan translation, hoping for this to be ported to PC.

  • *Sigh* This is never coming out in the US. I highly doubt that it’ll even get ported over to PC and translated, since Nitroplus always handles the PC versions. Oh well, at least we got the main game. I’m wondering how this series would do if it was officially localized. Apparently Hideo Kojima loves this series and he’s working with 5pb to make a new adventure game and anime adaption. It’s even supposed to be released worldwide!
