<< Last week’s software sales chart

Note: Apologies for the delay in this week’s sales column—E3 coverage kept us busy.

Last week was quiet yet again in Japan, with no new releases to speak of, save for Minecraft on the Xbox 360. This game sold 4,268 copies in its first week.

Meanwhile, the usual popular sellers continued to dominate the top-20 software sales chart for the week. Shin Megami Tensei IV has more or less sold out its first shipment by this point, so Atlus will probably be resupplying the market with new copies soon, if they haven’t already.

The top-20 chart for the week was as follows:

Now if Minecraft was on any other system it would had sold more.

    • Manny Being Manny

Maybe a few more, but in general American indie games don’t really have much of a fanbase over in Japan.

      • malek86

And well, I imagine the vast majority of those who cared, will have already bought it on XBLA anyway.

        • Carabutifarra

Digital sales on Japan are very very very very very very very very little, except for Animal Crossing.
They are smart, never buy the digital shit.

      • ZeroNova

Though Minecraft is a Swedish indie game, not American.

      • Taspertyne

You would be surprised at the amount of Minecraft merchandise that can be found in Japan

    • Sardorim

A system that the Japanese actually play, love, and own… Now what was it called again…?

Nice to see Battride is still trucking along, along with SMTIV.

  • NoLastName

Hope the shin megami tensei’s sales motivate Nintendo to announce a PAL release date

  • Aquarius

Nice to see the PS Vita slowly coming out of it’s dire situation.

    • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

How the hell is it coming out of its dire situation when last week barely sold 10k and this week it could even make it there~/

      • Aquarius

I said its SLOWLY recovering, and I guess you haven’t even seen how it was selling 6-8 months ago. If you compare those previous numbers this is an undeniable improvement.

        • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

In case you haven’t noticed, for the past two months, the PSV’s sale numbers have slowly dipped again into mediocrity. The price drop novelty has worn off, and it’s selling like crap again~.

  • malek86

SMT4 is holding up much better than Nocturne. I wonder if it can eventually outsell some of the 32-bit era games.

    • brian

Any idea how much did the old ones sold?

      • malek86

Devil Summoner did 355k. Persona managed a whopping 400k. Soul Hackers did 400k between PS1 and Saturn versions.

Overall, it could get close or even surpass them, but it will depend on whether sales drop off for the summer and when more big games come out.

        • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

Man, you’re really overestimating SMTIV. I think it’ll be lucky to get to 300k eventually, over the next year.

          • malek86

Not necessarily. Like I said, it will depend on the other games coming out. But this game was pushed a lot, so it wouldn’t surprise me if its legs held up much better than some of the previous games. We’ll see, but 300k would be already quite the accomplishment.

  • Shady Shariest

It still staggers me to see Terraria so high on the list O_o’

    • TiredOfMyOldUsername

      Really ?
I was sure that game would be somewhat popular in japan and if it wasn’t of the crazy price they have to pay in japan it probably would have sold much more

      • Shady Shariest

I guess that its just getting a second wind here after being dead for a small while *shrugs*

Al though now that i think about it, it is the pixels…But i’m not too…Gamecist(?) to believe that it had some old FF appeal to boost it… Meh…

        • DesmaX

          Nah, it’s a 2D Minecraft

          • Shady Shariest

First time i played it looked like an unholy children of Bit-Era FF’s and Minecraft…With music made by a teletubbie given keyboard :/

But i guess 62 hours played speaks for itself :)

          • DesmaX

Oh yeah, it’s weird at the beginning, but, when you see it, you already wasted some hours on it.

And you can always mute the music and play with another one. The themes gets old fast

          • Shady Shariest

Meh…I think the theme is the best part…It becomes so annoying that after an hour or so you just:
            A)”I can’t take this anymore! :x”
            B) Get Bored
            C) Lose the idea of what you were doing/supposed to do
D)Watch the nearest time pointing device

  • Spirate

Good to see Valhalla Knights 3 still holding on there.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Next week is going to be interesting here.^_^ Will SMT4 which is getting their second stock will still stays on the chart or not here.^_^

  • Göran Isacson

Anyone out there who can tell me what exactly “norn9″ is? Is it an anime turned game? A LN? Anyone?

  • Barrylocke89

True, but Terraria is doing better than I thought it would have did, so that’s pretty cool.

  • Ferrick

wait, you can actually read that ? o.o

  • Barrylocke89

Yes, I had responded before the comment was apparently deleted.

  • Ferrick

because it was a spam, written in a font that causes eyesores too
