Steam Summer Sale Still Not Live, But Here Are Three Solid Alternatives

Update: Steam’s 2013 Summer Sale is now live! Check out the spreadsheet embedded below for the latest price comparison (updated daily):

The annual Steam Summer Sale is just around the corner – so close you can almost feel your wallet quaking in fear. With a starting date most likely sometime in July, anticipation is running high, and gamers across the globe are set to splurge.

While you’re waiting to empty your bank account, there are three solid digital “Summer Sale” events from Amazon, Green Man Gaming, and GameFly that are worth a look. Better still, the majority of the titles being discounted are Steam-activated titles, so you can happily add yet another game to your library that you’ll never get around to playing. (But hey, we’re totally saving money right?)

Amazon Digital Summer Sale Amazon’s Digital Summer Sale began on June 30th and ends July 14th. About 1,000 PC games are on sale, with plenty of titles activating on Steam (double-check the DRM field below a game name before you buy to make sure it’s the Steam version). New batches of games go on sale every 3-4 days, and you’ll find some of the current top picks below, all of which are Steam keys:

Start End Game Title MSRP % Off Sale Price
July 4 July 7 Max Payne 3 $39.99 75% $9.99
July 4 July 7 Batman Arkham GOTY Pack (City & Aslyum) $49.98 77% $11.49
July 4 July 7 Lego Batman Pack (Lego Batman 1 & 2) $49.98 77% $11.49

Green Man Gaming 666 Sale – A batch of 6 new deals every 6 hours for 6 days. While Green Man Gaming’s sale began with a rocky start on July 1st (the UK retailer was having server problems due to demand) and was suppose to have ended, GMG relaunched all the deals as an “Encore” sale.  Use coupon GMG10-VTTCS-VYH18 to get another 10% off (works on most sale titles). All picks below are Steam keys except of course Guild Wars 2:

Start End Game Title MSRP % Off Sale Price
July 7 July 8 Sid Meier’s Civilization V: Gods & Kings $29.99 77% $6.75
July 4 July 7 Scribblenauts Unlimited $27.99 77% $6.30
July 7 July 8 XCOM: Enemy Unknown Pack $51.97 77% $11.70
July 7 July 8 Borderlands 2 + Season Pass $59.98 77% $13.50
July 6 N/A Guild Wars 2 (UK & Euro) $54.99 € 55% 24.75 €

*Note: The Guild Wars 2 deal is currently live and isn’t explicitly listed as a “666” deal, but its currently 50% off for UK and European residents (24.75 € after coupon). For North American counterparts, we only get the flat 36% off. Bummer.

GameFly Indie-Pendence Sale – This sale started on 4th of July and was suppose to end already but Gamefly has since extended their Indie game sale until July 9th. There’s a few gem in this sales event which are listed below. Don’t forget to use Gamefly’s July coupon GFDJUL20 (GFDJUL20UK for UK) to get the prices for top picks shown below (yep, all Steam keys):

Start End Game Title MSRP % Off Sale Price
July 4 July 9 Sanctum 2 $14.99 60% $5.99
July 4 July 6 Bit.Trip Runner 2 $14.99 47% $7.99
July 4 July 6 Rising Storm $19.99 40% $11.99

Scribblenauts on sale for $66.30? WHAT A DEAL COUNT ME IN

  • JustThisOne

BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. XCOM! I want it! But I don’t think my computer can handle it. :’>

  • Tom_Phoenix

“While you’re waiting to empty your bank account…”

Waiting? I ALREADY emptied my bank account thanks to the GOG Summer Sale! XD

    • Pyrotek85

GOG sale destroyed me too, and I really wasn’t planning to get anything. I might have to get XCOM, I keep hearing it’s good and the price is right.

      • kingcole225

XCOM is not just good, it’s great.

  • DesmaX

Wow, what a nice price for Scribblenauts! I’m so picking it Oh, not available at my country

    • I linked to the North American version but if you search at GMG, there should be a UK/Euro version too. They use to auto redirect to the correct region but not anymore…

      • DesmaX

Nope, searched for the game, but nothing. It really isn’t available

        • Ack. Sorry. Well one alternative is Amazon – they have the Steam key for $7.49

You just need to grab a US billing address to make a purchase with any credit card…

or just wait for the actual Steam sale. I’m pretty sure they’ll be matching Amazon’s $7.49 price, if not GMG’s $6.30 price.

          • DesmaX

Cool… Can I pay with paypal?

  • MrSirFeatherFang

Who is the author of this article and why does he have my last name?

  • DawnWolf

Bioshock 1 and 2 for 4$ total on Amazon…. freaking steal. And AMD just sent out my Bioshock Infinite key today too. It’s a sign.

  • Göran Isacson

    Brace yourselves… Summer is coming.

And the nice thing is that it works in Winter too, what with Steams Christmas sale. Heck, Steam practically throws a Red Wedding for my wallet EVERY season, the evil, evil naughty people.

  • AnimusVox

Man, how do they get away with these crazy sales? (Maybe ‘get away’ is a bit dramatic but you get what I mean).

  • CirnoLakes

    lol, what’s taking Valve?

  • Evernal Sue

    Sale at gamersgate already too

  • DCBlackbird

    c’mon steam *crosses fingers*
