Naughty Dog’s latest game, The Last of Us, is doing very well for itself—Sony announced this week that the game has sold over 3.4 million copies worldwide thus far, making it the fastest selling new game on the PlayStation 3.

“These sales figures are a testament to the blockbuster quality of The Last of Us,” said Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida.

“The teams at Naughty Dog are true visionaries and their storytelling capabilities are second to none, this title is an undisputed demonstration of that. SCE continues to be committed to delivering unique gameplay experiences that redefine the interactive entertainment industry and The Last of Us is a perfect example.”

The Last of Us was released in mid-June.

Lets hope Beyond True Souls sees similar success as it sends the PS3 out with a blast. Will Naughty Dog develop for the PS4?

    • cameron forsyth

they have been working closely with sony since the ps1 and played a large part in development of the PS4, i have absolutely no doubt we will see a PS4 game from the dog

    • Kevadu

Naughty Dog is 100% owned by Sony, you know. Of course they’re going to develop for the PS4.

      • XYZ_JolteonZ980

oh wasnt sure, was afraid theyd do like insomniac games.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

I’m glad to be one of those copies sold. Fantastic game that deserves the praise, and now sales, that have come its way. Hyped to see what they’ll be working on for DLC and for when they move onto the PS4.

  • Masa

well deserved, also a popular game in Japan which is surprising.
Hope it doesn’t lose GotY to the overrated FPS game, Bioshock.

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Hey lets take a bet, how many of you think this guy will say this when GTAV comes out?

    • DyLaN

“Things I don’t like but ppl like is soooooo overrated”

  • randominternetperson

Capcom would’ve called it a flopped

    • Zal_Yagun

      Square as well

    • d19xx

      Add EA to the list….

    • subsamuel01

All those companies are multi-platform. This is an elusive new IP so its great.

  • 3.4 mil? According to Tomb Raider’s expectations, this is an under-performance!

  • DesmaX

Nice to see a game selling “just” 3.4 Million and still do well…

  • Still need to get back on it, honestly. It actually caused my PS3 to overheat when I put down 6 or so hours on it debut night. Kinda spooked me and I haven’t played it since.

Of course my backlog is killing me so that might be the other part of it. Too many good games all at once as of late…and I still have a lot coming this year. This has been a pretty good year, game-wise.

  • I want this game but just too many games out there around this period it had to be shifted down my list over games that would be harder to find later on.

  • Zypharium

I’ll buy it when it gets cheapier, I can’t afford it at the moment, although I’d love to play it as soon as possible.

  • Solomon_Kano

I still haven’t gotten this yet, but congrats to Naughty Dog. Always been my favorite in Sony’s stable.

  • AnimusVox

    Wooooo good job ND

  • Got my Joel edition on Monday. Played some of it today and must say I’m liking what I see I will probably love it when it comes to the end. Haven’t touched a Naughty Dog since Crash Bandicoot, though I have Uncharted 3.

I’m looking forward to Naughty Dog’s next IPs. Keep the good games coming, ND!

  • Skode

Always nice to see a team rewarded for going with something new even at the end of a console cycle… they could easily have went down the route of another Uncharted and what not. That and zombies never get old… hell Microsoft are banking on that fact with Dead Rising 3

    • lozffvii

“That and zombies never get old”
Really? I thought they had gotten old about two years ago.
It didn’t help that all of the top horror game franchises got bastardised in recent years.

      • Skode

For every Resident Evil 6 and Walking Dead Survival Instinct there is a The Last of Us or Tell Tales Walking Dead (which won countless game of the year awards). So yeah the Zombies are still very much an in thing – its just like everything else though, they have to be done right.

Squeenix: “Sells only 3.4 mil? That’s not even enough for the TressFX license.”

  • XiaomuArisu

Who is the dog now man?

  • Aoshi00

Just finished it over the weekend, the game and ending completely blew my mind, really seamless gameplay and story telling.. Gonna replay it on new game plus (which Tomb Raider was sorely lacking) and in Jpn too , the trophies were pretty hard and can’t be gotten in 1 playthru (I finished on easy w/ 2% *.*), I missed Ellie’s joke trophy too.. After the Uncharted trilogy and this, my soul belongs to Naughty Dog lol.. I’m looking forward to Beyond Two Souls by Quantic Dream next..

Also need to get the Walking Dead 400 days.. my heart can’t handle so much human drama in the zombie infested world :(..

  • James Enk

well done… slightly overrated imoho but a great game nonetheless

  • Rocket D

Truly impressive and happy to hear Naughty Dog is doing so well. Had respect for this team since the PSX days so hoping for future success. I still haven’t been able to buy this game yet but I’m looking forward to it!

  • Lemon

I’m so glad for Naughty Dog. At least they aren’t complaining when their game is selling in the millions.

  • Gilgamesh2025

Just 3.4 Million? Nevertheless, congrats Naughty Dog!
