Shantae for Game Boy Color is headed to the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console next week, according to WayForward Technologies’ Matt Bozon. The game will be available on July 18th.

Shantae is confirmed for release in Europe, Australia and New Zealand, too, but doesn’t have a release date yet in those territories.

WayForward are also developing an original Shantae game for the 3DS, titled Shantae and the PIrate’s Curse. This is a Metroid-esque game with interconnected areas and gadgets that you find and upgrade along the way.

I just downloaded the second game, so I’m very excited. Also because the first is impossible to find.

Ooh! I’m jumping on this one for sure! I played a little bit of the second, but I’d like to start from the beginning.

I was never able to get a legit copy of the first, so I will pick this up for sure.

Question though, will you be able to get the extra transformation that you got if you played the original on a GBA in this one?

It’s shown in the eshop trailer, so I would hope so.

A full series easily available and for a nice prize… I do love the modern age, sometimes.

  • How hard is it to unify 3DS and Wii U eShops for Christ’s sake… I know some games would only make sense on 3DS cough* cough* (not really since the Wii U has the gamepad) but even so. If shantae is comming to 3DS why not Wii U too? God.
