Capcom Vs. SNK 2 Groove Shifts Onto PlayStation 3 As A PS2 Classic

By Spencer . July 14, 2013 . 11:30pm

imageRyu vs. Kyo Kusanagi, Maki vs. Mai, and Sakura vs. Athena Asamiya. On Tuesday, you can set up all of these fights when Capcom re-releases Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium as a PlayStation 2 classic.

Capcom vs. SNK 2 brought Maki from Final Fight 2 out of obscurity and had six play styles styles. Each of the game’s Groove are based on a different fighting game. The K Groove is essentially Samurai Shodown and gives characters a rage meter and a run move (which is different from the dash in the Street Fighter grooves). If you want to parry you can pick the P Groove which is based on Street Fighter III and the A Groove has a Custom Combo system from Street Fighter Alpha 3.

Since this is a PS2 Classic, Capcom vs. SNK 2 won’t have online play, but at least we’re finally getting the game. Japan has had Capcom vs. SNK 2 since September of last year.

Capcom should have worked something out with SNK to get the game in HD and with online play. Even so I’m still grateful.

    • Setsu Oh

they tried, officialy according to cap, the fault is on snk. i wouldn t mind it being ‘remade’ by iron galaxy

OMG Can’t wait Rock Howard <3.

    • Raoni Marques

      Best SNK character ever.

      • Setsu Oh

        i would say kyo/iori instead

  • Tonton Ramos

So since MVC2 came out on the PS3 with MVC3 coming. Does this mean it will go the the same as this game?

    • Raoni Marques

Even though it would be great, don’t get your hopes up. I don’t think it’s happening…

    • AkuLord3

No…if they were, they probably hype that up at EVO

    • Solomon_Kano

MVC2 with online and other bonuses came to hype up MVC3. This is just a PS2 classic, one that’s been out in Japan for some time at that.

  • s07195

    Local multiplayer?

    • AkuLord3

Well yeah…its just a re-release fighter it should have that

  • http://shadious.tumblr.com/ Vince

I loved this game. Though God Rugal and Shin Akuma are super cheap— As CPU’s they have high health and can kill you in just a matter of small combos. As human playables, they’re virtually glass jaws.

  • LustEnvy

My fave fighting game ever, without online play. How absolutely disappointing. Should’ve been updated like Darkstalkers, Street Fighter III, etc. Great going, Capcom. Now I can play with absolutely no one good. Oh wait, I still have the game for the Dreamcast… which does the same thing. This is the game that deserves all the features, and yet it’s half assed. Ugh. Yes, I’m mad.

    • Tanner

Darkstalkers 3 got a PSOne Classic release before it got it’s updated one. Just wait, I think they have to go through all sorts of legal hoops first.

  • JustThisOne

If enough hype gets generated, I wonder if CvSNK3 will happen? :>

    • MrRobbyM

I sure to god hope so. CvSNK2 was my favorite fighting game last gen.

      • JustThisOne

CvSNK games were the only games that I could get certain people to play SNK games with me.

… damnit. Does this mean I’m getting another fighting game? xD

    • Solomon_Kano

I certainly, certainly, certainly hope so. CVS2 is my favorite fighter ever.

      • Xiaolin

It is by far and away my favorite Street Fighter , but favorite fighter prolly goes to Project Justice.

    • Just Tim

I sincerely hope so, despite SRK(dot)com’s April Fools’ prank.

    • Xiaolin

I’m never calling it that, and not sure why you are.

      • JustThisOne

Ah well, it’s mostly wishful thinking. I don’t honestly expect a sequel out of this. But what if, y’know?

  • Repede91

I dunno about you guys; but I’ve always found Mai’s Capcom sprite more appealing than her SNK/NEO•GEO one.

    • http://queensblade.net/index.php/characters/cattleya gulabjamuns

Mai’s original KOF sprite is classic and amazing for the time it was created in, imo. CvS2′s is different but just as good if not better. But her new sprite in XIII really pales in comparison to either of them, imo. Although, I always thought that in XIII, all the other female characters somehow absorbed some of the sexy from Mai, lol.

  • Gilgamesh2025

    Nice! :)

  • xxx128

Its more like… a dreamcast classic?

    • Xiaolin

PS2 ver was the most popular and only Jap DC ver had online

  • vileBrenman

Nice! This one was rad but the announcer was really annoying… Especially on the character select screen. But it actually kind of fits because of the manic style of the game

  • Lionxie

If I remember right, this game is unplayable in the HD TVs due to lag. No online play is also a bummer for me.

  • Solomon_Kano

I’ve been waiting SO long for this to reach us. Favorite fighter ever. Sure, an updated port would’ve been better, but I’m glad to have it at all.

    • Xiaolin

You are much kinder than I. This really upsets me. Been asking for this for 6 plus years along with Project Justice and Tech Romancer Capcom hasn’t seen fit to say anything about any of them.
