Next Legend Of Heroes To Have School Events To Flesh Out The Characters

By Sato . July 17, 2013 . 1:30pm

Falcom President Toshihiro Kondo recently shared a sneak peek at a scene from The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Flash on the company’s official Play.Community blog. In the latest installment of the exclusive behind-the-scene videos, the president reveals more info regarding the upcoming PlayStation 3 and Vita title.

After  a short greeting and introduction, Kondo gives us a recording of an event that took place last week, called The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Flash x PlayCommu Thors Academy Open Campus, where fans got to experience a hands-on demo of the game, hang out with the developers, and enjoy a live music show (where Kondo was shown getting some of the spotlight!).

Kondo expressed that the event was a great way to personally get in touch with the fans, who shared plenty of laughter, but also provided serious thoughts and input when they were asked to during the discussion sessions, which he looks forward to doing again in the future.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Flash will follow the regular calendar year and it will also feature seasonal differences which will be apparent in the environment and the appearances of characters. The students of Thors Academy are often seen wearing a red uniform, however, they’ll also have different outfits to match the seasons. The above images show Laura and Rean wearing white short-sleeved shirts as their Summer clothing.

While the main characters of Class VII will be seeing plenty of combat and training, they are still young students at Thors Academy. Falmcom have included various scenes and events such as swimming classes to bring out a school-like feeling, where we’ll be seeing a more laid-back side of the characters and their interactions among themselves.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Flash is slated for release on September 26th for PlayStation 3 and Vita.

This game even has swimsuits… argh! Really wish an english version was possible.

  • ReidHershel

    This game…looks….amazing. *obligatory localization comment*

    • アティ

Falcom: If the west wants this you’re going to have to wait for 99 years!
      *Evil Laugh*

      • Prinny Dood

        Ha ha good one

  • DesmaX

Hey, even the cut-offs gets the new clothes. Cool

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Its a damn I won’t be able to play this any time soon. I can understand japanese but I haven’t played SnK, Aoi or Zero and apparently those are heavily dependent on this story wise. Plus, all of those games are absurdly long I’ve heard.

    • Prithivi

      Then go play them!

I envy you, if I could understand japanese I’d have already ended the Trails in the Sly trilogy D=

      • FitzpatrickPhillips

Hah, in the middle of a few other games at the moment. Playing Atelier Escha & Logy for the time being and other games to get through before SnK.

        • Be warned that when you get to the SnK trilogy, you will probably want to tear through them- especially after FC’s ending.

Falcom has stated many times that newcomers to the series will be able to enjoy and understand the story of Sen no Kiseki. In the latest Sen no Kiseki magazine(vol 5), many cast members (seiyuu) comment that this installment can be enjoyed by everyone, even by new players to the series.

Of course there will be links to previous games such as returning characters and the like, but i believe that each Kiseki arc can be properly played and enjoyed by its own.

So, i urge all japanese speakers to not miss out on what looks to be the best jrpg on the Ps3.

      • Slayven19

Can you give me a link to this? Not that I don’t believe you because I’ve heard it somewhere and I was looking for it.

        • Karibito

Most of the cast members comment on this on the third question “What is your message to the fans?”

Falcom is taking a risk with this installment so they are trying to market it to a much broader audience. I really hope they suceed as these games need a lot more attention both inside Japan and the rest of the world.

          • Slayven19

Thanks bud, sorry for the late reply back.

So old i mean i saw this like weeks ago i think… lol not that it matters how old it is.

    • Sato

You might be thinking about the other vids. This one was posted over the weekend by Falcom. Anyways, what’s “old” for some people isn’t for others. Let’s try to keep comments relevant to the topic, mmkay? :)

      • Actually… While the images may have been posted this week, this was one of the first things Falcom talked about in Dengeki issues: the seasonal changes for characters and costumes. That time will pass and you have access to a calendar to see the month/day. This will cause shops to change inventory and allow different outfits to show up in the boutique windows- which will all be wearable by the characters.

        • Sato

Yeah, it sounds like it’ll be pretty awesome! Point is, the video was released over the weekend, which included Kondo talking about their event that took place last week and school events in addition to the seasonal changes. So, it’s not completely just old news :)

          • And that’s understandable. The only problem I had with the response to his comment is the fact that the “Let’s try to keep relevant” comment was pretty patronizing for someone who was, in all technicalities, correct. I think it’d be just easier to explain that this came from a new development of news.

  • ShadowDivz

Needs “let’s make a maid cafe for the school culture festival” event or something of equal fanservice awesome.

  • mike dickson

xseed localize this game make some people happy

    • Some more happy than others lol

      • mike dickson

        lol so true

  • TheExile285

    Oooohh god….. this game ;_;

    • Let me finish that for you. “Ahem”

      ……needs to be localized. =)

  • Raltrios

Looking at those swimsuit screenies I can say only this: Those are some lovingly-crafted derrieres!

  • Raze

I see…Maybe Falcom will make the dungeon system like in nayuta too…You can access this place on summer, but not on winter.etc…Well…Whatever the case…This school and season system will make the game more interesting…Can’t wait for it…

  • Prinnydoom

Mmmmhhhmm tasty swimsu-I mean screen shots. Yeah. That sounds a lot less pervy.

  • SoraShadowNever

Can I play this without knowing japanese?

    • FitzpatrickPhillips

    • Duc PC-QB

Of course you can but then you wont have no clue what the hell is going on.
If were lucky maybe some good guys will put the walkthrough up later

  • Crimson_Cloud

*sigh* We probably won’t see this localized for a while now…

  • Prithivi

“Falmcom have included various scenes and events such as swimming classes to bring out a school-like feeling, where we’ll be seeing a more laid-back side of the characters and their interactions among themselves.”

So, the game will have some events to socialize with the main group like the “modern” Persona games? That sounds cool!

  • dahuuuundge

they just have to ruin everything unique about Legend of Heroes by forcing this school setting cliche

    • biskmater

Can we leave the whole “they changed it, so it sucks” complaining until we get the actual game? (by we, i meant Japan, of course)

    • DesmaX

To be honest, I think this is one reason for this to not sell well in the west

      • equalequation

The Persona series would like to have a word with you, sir!

Chances are the West would hate it because the obligatory EWWWWW HIGHSCHOOL reaction, yes, but it’s not necessarily so.

        • DesmaX

Eh, Persona 3 had that “Omg, teenagers shooting themselves in the head, so cool!” thingie, and P4 got in the hype train (Especially since how late it got released on the PS2).

But this one… seems so bland and generic. It reminds me of Valkyria Chronicles 2.

          • equalequation

Bland and generic is in the eye of the beholder! Valkyria Chronicles 2 got a bad hype because it removed the ~omg serious war story~ theme from the first game, and let’s face it, the hero was the most generic shounen hero ever to annoy people with. Falcom tends to write more interesting protagonists, so I’d cut it some slack on that front.

It reminds me more of FF Type-0, if anything.

          • Slayven19

Type-0 would have sold well in the west. This game would have well, the school setting is a big a turn-off as people think it is. Its probably the only thing that would give it attention in the west. There aren’t any rpg games on ps3 to my knowledge with school settings.

          • DesmaX

Well, Type-0 was a PSP game. That wouldn’t sell well at all.

And, while I guess it could pick people who like the Persona series, it doesn’t really have that cool factor that series have. It would give western gamers impressions that it’s your “generic high school animu with steroryped characters” (I won’t deny Falcom talent with stories, of course, but I believe first impressions are very important)

          • Slayven19

Sorry for the late reply, you might be right with the first impression part. But I think that because of persona and the rep this game gets because of its very good stories people would be willing to play it. Remember persona 4 didn’t really have cool/edgy factor either like p3 either but it still sold very well in the west. I think this will work more in favor of this gam

    • What’s funny about that is that this has been hinted for at least one game already. It’s a pretty unsurprising direction after the previous titles.

    • Slayven19

Ok what the hell isn’t cliche by now? In fact a school setting for a game isn’t really cliche and its really not overdone either in games. Especially no more than medievil settings for the majority of western rpg’s or bald guy saving the world in most games. Seriously man everything is a cliche by now because its been done before, what matters is what you do with the archetypes that matter.

  • Prinny Dood

Sigh another game were so no getting ill sit in my corner wishing I knew japanese

  • Kevin Schwarz

So putting salt to the wound, huh? Don’t think we will ever get this localized, given the history of TLOH outside Japan. Sora no kiseki on psp the only exception up to day.

  • Kai2591

I-It’s not like I want this game to be localized or anything!

  • Houten Lee

I need this….. hopefully Interwise from Taiwan have plan for this game.

  • XiaomuArisu

Recently bought TiTS…I mean Trails in the Sky and im loving it!
Would be cool if we could get more!
