Pokémon Rumble U Launches In North America This August

Pokémon Rumble U, the action game that has you fighting toy-like versions of the various Pokémon creatures, is coming to North America this August.

Fighting and defeating Pokémon in Pokémon Rumble U will allow you to befriend and use those Pokémon. Along the way you’ll encounter large bosses, and Pokémon Rumble U allows you to play the game cooperatively with up to four players supported in multiplayer.

Like in Japan, Pokémon Rumble U will be released alongside a series of physical Pokémon figurines that can be recognized by the Wii U GamePad to unlock those Pokémon within the game itself. There will be 18 of these figurines, and they’ll be available exclusively at participating GameStop stores.

Since figurines are capable of saving in-game data, you’ll be able to carry them around with you. Among the 18 figurines will be Pikachu, Victini, Deoxys (Normal Forme), Eevee, and Genesect.

Each figurine will cost $3.99. Meanwhile, the game itself will cost $17.99 and will be available via the Nintendo eShop for Wii U. Both Pokémon Rumble U and the figurines will launch on August 29th.

That’s seems like a nice price, 17.99. I’m a sucker for collectables too. Too bad the figurines are at GS only. I can’t buy from their online store. 4 x 18 = 72? $72 for all the figurines… damn.

      Wish Skylanders was this cheap.

I bet it isn’t lol. Not interested in the series, but Mark from Classic Game Room likes it, so it’s probably pretty decent. I trust his word!

So these figurines are basically character DLC? And you can play as other Pokemon without buying them?

I was worried this would be more like Skylanders.

    • Ben Sylvia

I think they either have better stats, moves, or abilities that are difficult to get on the Pokemon normally.

Don’t quote me on that though.

  • Michael Martin

The IGN article says the figures will come in ‘concealed capsules’. I assume that means we’ll have no idea which figure we’re getting when we purchase it?? Something tells me the best figures are going to be flipped on eBay for well more than $3.99/piece…

  • Gilgamesh2025

That’s great and stuff, but when will we get a proper Pokémon game for Wii U?

  • AuraGuyChris

Kind of late to release this game since the next gen is coming two months later. Meh, I’ll be sticking to my crazy dex filling hunt in my games.

  • Ben Sylvia

    Mainly want the figures, lol.

Can’t wait for the 6th gen versions of Rumble and Mystery Dungeon.
So I can main Honedge. Or whatever it evolves into. “cough”SoulEdge”cough”

  • Definitely getting the game at that price, but not touching the figures.
