Sengoku Basara 4 will be about the making of the Sengoku period, and will be taking place in the Muromachi period, an era that took place prior to the events of the series. The game’s first trailer gives us a look at some action surrounding the key military commanders and others.

The trailer starts out with a glance at the fateful encounter between Masamune Date and Yoshiteru Ashikaga, followed by a quick transition of Masamune meeting Katsuie Shibata, who has fallen to despair after losing everything. Masamune states his distaste towards the look in Katsuie’s eye, as it reminds himself of his left eye which was left over on “that day,” when his right eye lost its glimmer.

Katsuie who is now a shell of his former self, and doesn’t show any emotion. He is simply going by orders given to him as part of Nobunaga Oda’s army and states that he doesn’t have the right to dream about the future. He appears to be baffled when the gamble-loving Sakon Shima pays attention to him.

Sakon will be one of Sengoku Basara 4’s new characters. He’s a devout follower of Mitsunari Ishida and will be going wild on the battlefield with his acrobatic abilities. Mitsunari who is extremely loyal to his lord, Hideyoshi Toyotomi, will be showing a different side of himself as a vassal, prior to his lord’s death.

Yoshiteru Ashikaga is shown early in the trailer and again towards the end, but we don’t get to see him in action. So far, we know that he’ll be the highest ranked character we’ve seen in the series according to a recent interview with the game’s producer and director. He’ll be a formidable foe who uses a scepter that can change its form into those of other weapons.

Sengoku Basara 4 is slated for release in early 2014 for PlayStation 3.

I wish it was coming stateside. I love this series. IMO prefer it over DW

    • soulz

Yes, I prefer basara over DW also. To me DW gets boring really fast.

  • Shuga Suenaga

Roronoa Zoro and Shanks voice xD

    • AkuLord3

Yeah, Kazuya Nakai who does Date Masamune, is also known for doing Zoro and Hijikata (from Gintama)

      • Shuga Suenaga

nice to know im kind of a one piece fan so i can recognize his voice easily xD

      • abysswalker

I knew my ears are not deceiving me but isn’t his name Hijikata? or mayonnaise-san lol

        • AkuLord3

It is, lack of sleep and cool trailer usually involves spelling errors -_-

          • abysswalker

Perhaps you should get a red sleep mask with eye markings like Sougo’s That way you could sleep anywhere, anytime

      • Alexander Marquis Starkey

I’m pretty sure he’s also the same guy who does Xiahou Dun (the other One Eyed Badass of the Hack and Slash Genre) in the DW series.

  • Ouryu

I want to see Yukimura Sanada.

    • Masa

      OYAKATA-SAMA!

“Masamune states his distaste towards the look in Katsuie’s eye, as it reminds himself of his left eye which was left over on “that day,” when his
    right eye lost its glimmer.”

Not sure whether to take this literally since Masamune mentions Kojuro at the end of the trailer. I’d really like to see how Capcom spins the way he really lost his right eye though. Popular conjecture seems to be he lost it during an illness, he dug it out himself, or he had Kojuro dig it out.

I hope Oichi and Nagamasa Azai are in this one, along with Hideyoshi Toyotomi and Takenaka Hanbei.

  • eilegz

so its a prequel, as i said hopefully capcom do the right thing, add online cooperative in the whole game story or free mode

    • Tre W

It’s not really a “prequel” in the traditional sense. The main reason behind this “parallel world” thing is that they technically get to have a game that takes place further in the past, while a number of the SB3/U characters still get to retain their character developments and such.

In other words, just because it takes place at the end of the Muromachi period, doesn’t mean that Ieyasu will go back to being the little half-pint he was in the first few games.

    • Testament

A lack of online play, was a major shame for Sengoku Basara 3 and Utage.

  • Masa

Saw no new moves from the returning characters, with these type of games if the characters are using the same moves as the last games they become boring very quickly….hopefully some news comes out and the battle system has been updated.

    • Cerzel

Masamune had a quick teleport/dash kind of thing that he didn’t have in 3. That was all I noticed.

  • Aunna Terrell

Sakon looks completely fun as hell. XD And I can’t wait to see who else gets announced in the next few months.

I think I’m going to import this. I know my 5-year old son will have fun with it. He loves SB3 with a passion, always asking to play it everyday, lol

  • Don

    Char Aznable is in it!..

  • Mavalex

Mitsunari still perpetually angry and screaming his lungs out
    also (pic)

  • Sardorim

    Where art thou Tokugawa?

  • Final Aura

    Let’s party!

  • 愛憎

    Is this a prequel?

I was really hoping to see how they would handle post-war. Tokugawa would become an asshole and hunt down the remnants of his enemies, like Yukimura.

  • Valtiel Ikari

every thing showed in this trailer is historically accurate.

  • Vash bane

havnt tried this series but this looks awesome

  • Kei-chan

Too bad it wasn’t a launch title for PS4 instead of just coming out on PS3. Early 2014 would have been at least “launch window” for PS4. You gettin’ lazy Capcom!
