God Eater 2 Demo Video Shows New Weapons, Skills, And Aragami

By Sato . July 25, 2013 . 12:50pm

Namco Bandai recently uploaded a demo of God Eater 2 to the PlayStation Store, which can be accessed by players with a Japan region PSN account (further details here). Following its release, the folks at Famitsu suited up, grabbed their God Arcs and took on some Aragami in the new demo. Here’s a look at their action showing the game’s latest features.

The demo video starts out showing a party of four God Eaters. The mix consists of a Charge Spear, Boost Hammer, and two Buster Blade users. The player behind the recording uses the new piercing Charge Spear weapon. One of the first things that stands out is the new interface which shows more skills and a new bar on the screen.

It doesn’t take long for the party to find their Aragami, followed by a good beating. The Charge Spear looks about the same as Buster Blade when it comes to attack speed, but it has an edge in mobility thanks to its ability to dash and glide.

Just as it looked like the monster was retreating, it returns for more, and this time for good. The group continue to hunt it down, using their best abilities. The flashy attack with the red spikes is from the Buster Blade’s “After Impact” type Blood Arts.

There are over 200 Blood Arts available in the game; however, they are categorized by types, which vary according to the weapon.

After defeating the Aragami and consuming it with their God Arcs, the party’s next task is to take on the familiar Aragami from Gods Eater Burst, Chi-You, who was known for giving novice players a tough time in the past. It seems to have the same moveset from before, so it shouldn’t be as tough to take it down with the help of Blood Arts.

At the 4:20 mark of the video, we get a look at the party going up against the recently introduced Aragami, Garm, just as it enters rage-mode. This wolf-like Aragami has a close resemblance to the tiger-type Vajra  Aragami, and judging by its fearsome attacks, movements, and tough armor, it looks like it’ll be just as difficult.

By putting their Blood Arts to good use, the party were able to chase it off and were eventually victorious against the crimson-haired beast.

God Eater 2 is slated for release on November 14th for PlayStation Vita and PSP.

The Chi-you was considered hard? I found it so fun to fight.
He wasn’t all that hard for me.

    • Abyan Haidar

for us old player, of course it wouldn’t be too hard (actually it’s easy), I found the quest with 2000 fc a little out of hand at the 1st time though… that aside, I found the Longsword in GE2 is somehow more versatile than in GEB (actually every weapon in GE2 is better than in GEB, duh), and I love the brand new shotgun barrel!!
+ almost every Aragami bullet(s) is/are homing (yay! finally a good thing happened for usually unused Ogretail’s bullet)
and I surprised that Garm’s bracelet and the Purple Engine Crocodile’s (whatever it’s name) tail are actually weak to shots,

      I found a bug though…

      • Vash bane

its weak to shots? the gun isn’t really my strong point lol
but ima go again to try and get a better score

        what bug?

        • Abyan Haidar

well, how do I say it… “sudden coordinate change?” like, sometimes my character doesn’t get flinched when attacked (it’s just stand there as if it doesn’t care), and when my character knocked down (not killed) it will stand in another place much like teleport but you will still see the slight movement, or AI partner suddenly teleport to your side after being knocked down

          • Vash bane

i haven’t experience this yet. but I do get a sound bug here and there and also when fighting those purple crocs…the sound effects are outrageous

          • Abyan Haidar

sound bug? haven’t heard of that yet… is it like noise or something? sometimes when fran (the operator) speaks it sounds like “Araragi” than “Aragami”…

          • Vash bane

your right there quite a few bugs I got the hit glitch one where just like you said my character got hit but didn’t fall to the ground I didn’t get the npc one yet

    • Ni

I hated Chi-You when I was a novice but after sometime I realised that he has one of the most easy partern of the game.

Ohh and that One Hit kill mission full of Chi-yous gave me a headache for the first 3 times.

    • natchu96

It’s hard to hit him at first, when he moves around so much. Experience tends to teach you all the moments when an Aragami is vulnerable.

  • Bobby Jennings

How do you use Blood Arts exactly?

    • Abyan Haidar

you have to level your ability 1stm then equip it… and try to use some attacks, if it has an extra effect (i.e. flashing red), then it’s the Blood Arts, some do extra damage and some changing your moveset

  • Vash bane

cant wait to load this game :D

    • Norbert Gespenst

I can’t wait till it hit’s the west

      • Vash bane

to cha my friend then could better understand the story :)

  • Ni

Now that i ended my studiyng season, i’ll search for better videos of charge spear. that gameplay from famitsu is awful

  • deadMastershiro

Is it legal to have cover art THAT BADASS!

  • Smooosh

Is God Eater Burst the first game or is there a simple “God Eater” as well?
Want to give the series a try. :)

    • Abyan Haidar

Gods Eater Burst is like remake with improved features… and more story… just play the burst, since the Gods Eater is almost the same (except burst was more awesome), and the normal “Gods Eater” doesn’t released in the west

  • The hype. It’s here =)

    • Curan_Altea

Go play the demo and experience it for yourself.
      It’s sooooo good.

  • Prinnydoom

I should really finish god eater burst. Been sitting in my to do pile for a long time now. Still this is looking awesome anyway.

  • Saintdante

Uggh really want this game but Namco Bandai probably won’t bring it over unless they actually take a leap of faith for once. I guess it’s time to start learning Japanese.

  • MikeTxn

I thought Kigurumi was a filler NPC, but then it turns out it’s a God Eater D:
Anyway, I love the new (and old) weapons, the Aragami, everything.

    November can’t come soon enough.

  • Lemski07

triangle to use blood arts on charge spear but you need to equip it first on the computers, the game has the feel of the first one with added features and monsters. charge spear is more on dodging attacks than blocking.

    • Lemski07

blood arts can be used on [] and / skills

  • Raltrios

    Vajra, difficult? Say wha?

No, but seriously, I’m really hoping this comes out over here. I’d love to take up my weapons and go hunting again. I hope the Aragami count at least gets doubled, but if it does it would still likely be more palette swaps. Still, gimmegimmegimme!

  • linkenski

Obvious Monster Hunter clone… without the charm of MH and way more anime generic.

  • Erwin MadJelly

again… ASIA PS Store Doesn’t have this!! Gosh!! Asia should like combine with Japan PS Store!! Hate to Switch accounts.

  • Norbert Gespenst

I can say for a fact that the AI on both sides are better. Now if you’re downed you’ll get link aid and sometimes they will throw a flash bomb which means you can heal and devour. I had to chase down an enemy (Eletric crocodile) across the stage and it wouldn’t stop. I also had shot an aragami and another aragami saw it (I was in sniper mode) so they both started hunting me and my crew.

  • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

Please, let it come to the West, please let it come to the West, please let it come to the West, please let it come to the West~.

  • Senshin

    Man…I have to play this!
I hope the boss of this game is much more hard, the previous boss (Hannibal) wasn’t so hard to beat =S
