ff11a Final Fantasy XI is celebrating its eleventh birthday this year. Square Enix is celebrating by giving away the Scars of Abyssea, Vision of Abyssea, and Heroes of Abyssea battle scenarios to all players for free. These high level areas were sold for $9.99 each, but they won’t cost a single gil between August 8 at 8PM to October 11 at 7AM. Here are detailed instructions on how to claim the expansion packs.

Final Fantasy XI players will also get gifts to get them started on their Abyssea adventure like eleven different Atma, one Lunar Abyssite, and 100,000 cruor (read: Abyssea bucks). During the campaign period, players new to Abyssea will be able to hold more Traverser Stones and will have an easier time since auras are more powerful.

Awesome, looks like they are trying to give the people not transitioning to 14 something fun and the ones who will, a reason to keep 11. Smart move SE.

I bet the people who busted their asses getting those Atmas are going to be pretty upset.
