All of the SNES Street Fighter II games are coming to the Wii U Virtual Console this week, Capcom have announced.

For the uninitiated, that’s Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting and Street Fighter II: The New Challengers. Each one will be available for $7.99 / €7.99 / £5.49.

You’ll also be able to grab all three games at a discount in both North America and Europe. In North America, you can grab any one game and get the other two for 50% off. Meanwhile, in Europe, you can buy two games and get the third for free.

  • Vesperion

There was a Championship Edition right?

    • Yes. That’s the first game that allowed you to use the 4 Then-Boss characters.

    • TrevHead

Yeah it’s really strange why they’d release World Warrior rather than Champ Ed, since the boss characters can’t be selected by the player in WW.

CE is version I played back in the day and always boot up in MAME

    • BlueTree

Just for clarification, while there was a Championship Edition, there was not a console version of that game. They’re releasing the SNES versions of World Warrior, Hyper Fighting, and Super.

      • TrevHead

Oh I missed that they were using the SNES versions, thx for the clarification

      • SiliconNooB

There was a console version of Champion Edition, but it was only released on Genesis.

It was allegedly faster than Turbo, so maybe it wasn’t released on SNES due to the slower CPU?

        • BlueTree

Yeah, there was Special Championship Edition on Genesis/MD, you’re right. Had up to 10 stars of turbo speed.

    • Guest

Champion Edition is included in the SNES Turbo. I think it’s labeled as “Normal Mode” in the menu, but I don’t remember for sure.

  • AuraGuyChris

Oh boy, which one is the best one?

    • Take your pick:

      – Street Fighter II: The World Warrior = 8 Characters, Slow Gameplay, Bare Essentials

      – Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting = 12 Characters, Faster Gameplay, Bare Essentials

      – (Super) Street Fighter II: The New Challengers = 16 Characters, Faster Gameplay, Updated Scoring System, 8-Man Tournament Mode.

      • SiliconNooB

They really only needed to release one of the games…

    • TrevHead

      Champ Edition

      • Hyper Fighting is the Updated Champ Edition.

        • TrevHead

It’s been a while since I’ve played HF but doesn’t that version have extra special moves added to it whilst CE is basically WW with the boss characters selectable?

    • gamefreak86

      WW imo.

    • Tee Niitris

      WW for nostalgia.
      HF for competitive play.
      Super for the characters.

      Depends on preference.

  • Chaos_Knight

It would be cool if it was SSF2T HD.

    • But then, Capcom wouldn’t be getting more money from the Originals that way..

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    I hope the wii-u get ST3

  • Tee Niitris

    I’ll wait for the Super…

    wait, nevermind. :P

  • Chow

It’s somewhat redundant to sell them in this way, but we’re talking Capcom here. ;)

  • Kaitsu

Why all 3? We’re only going to get one version that has all the characters…

    • AndyLC

Sometimes you just want to play as “Ehonda who can move while doing 100 hand slap”

  • The Watcher

    Tsk. What a scam.

    • SlickRoach

      Exactly what I thought.

    • Kaitsu

Yeah, now they’ll have to wait for Super Street Fighter II Turbo which isn’t even included in this.

    • Kaihedgie

      How is this a scam

      • Monterossa

8 bucks for each SNES game… Not a scam but still not a good deal.
Capcom said they won’t make a new SF for the Wii U and this is not even the SF2 HD that they remade for the PSN.

        • Kaihedgie

You can choose not to buy all of them, you know, just the one(s) you want. Plus this has nothing to do with any new SF games. They’re just porting old games so this was just needless venting over nothing

          • Kalis Konig

I never understood why people always choose to play the “you don’t have to buy it” card. Most of the time it has nothing to do with the point a person was trying to make.

          • Kaihedgie

            Why do I say it?

Because really, you don’t need to get it. There’s no reason to whine about something you aren’t going to buy anyway.

What is it with Siliconera users’ fascination with Capcom anyway if everything they do in their eyes is wrong no matter what?

  • hazelnut1112

Well at least the Wii U is getting Street Fighter in some form…

  • hickorypan

New Challengers is the only one worth getting, it’s the most updated version on the SNES.

Why aren’t they adding online support like they did for the virtual console version of the Genesis port? That’s really crap, especially considering the SNES version has a superior palette and sound.

As a guilty secret, I also prefer SSF2 to SSF2T.

  • They might as well have thrown Alpha 2 up there as well, that’s my favorite SNES SF (yes I know it was an inferior port)
