Sony announced the 12 GB PS3 will come to North America and retail for $199. The 12 GB super slim PS3 was released in Europe last year.
Only 12GB? That seems kind of pointless IMO. Good thing you can expand PS3 HDD.
And Solid-State Drives are compatible with the PS3, too!
But no real benefit since PS3 are only SataI at a capp of 1.5Gbps. and usully wear out your system. I’ve read in the forum that it has caused some ylod.
I can think of no conceivable reason an SSD would cause a YLOD. You shouldn’t believe everything you read on forums.
lol 12 is nothing today XD
I think it would be more accurate to say it’s a PS3 with 12 GB flash memory? or does it not really matter how you phrase it?
Anyways… I might want to grab this if it goes on sale since I don’t want to bring around my limited edition PS3 to college…
If I didn’t have a spare 250GB HDD just laying here I would have said this is incredibly stupid. Hell, it is but it benefits me so I’m happy. I got rid of my old beat up PS3 a few months ago. I’ve been waiting for a price drop, this is enough.
I feel like it’s some kind of trend to make a small inferior version of a product. Apple, Nintendo, and Sony so far I can think of. I don’t pay attention to Microsoft, so I don’t know if they have one.
As much as I need a PS3 NOW (wanna play my Xillia CE, dammit!), I’d rather pay an extra $50 for an 80 gig one with the limited backwards compatibility.
I did read this twice… 12GB is nothing these days. The installation of some games takes more space.
Nothing is no understatement. Someone who goes out and buys a smartphone with a data plan today, the phone it comes with will have a MicroSD card with more space in it than the PlayStation 3.
And for scale of data density, the MicroSD card would probably be 1/75,000th of the size of a PlayStation 3. In fact probably much smaller. MicroSD cards are smaller than a fingernail.
The price is pretty Awesome for the BUNCH of games coming out, but the space… is not equal to the Awesomeness of the price. This is going to be a PS3 where you don’t buy games in the PSN rather on CD and without installing them… maybe they will sell some Memory Cards(Hardrives)?…
That makes sense. The hardware is pretty outdated by now. A laptop of that price would be that powerful or more. And this means that playing the games will be much more affordable.
That being said, a 12 GB hard drive is pretty small. You can get 16 GB USB 3.0 flash drives for $5. For that price, you’d might as well store stuff on flash drives rather than an internal hard drive.
I hope they make a higher end model with more space that price, soon. Because 12 GB just isn’t an acceptable amount of storage. That’s something you expect out of phone MicroSD cards that come with the phones people are buying today.
