Ultra Street Fighter IV Will See Updates Of Its Own

By Ishaan . August 21, 2013 . 2:00pm

Capcom are treating Ultra Street Fighter IV as a major overhaul to the Street Fighter IV series. In addition to adding five new characters, the update will rebalance the entire game, trying to make more characters viable competitively against one another.

And Capcom don’t intend to stop there, producer Tomoaki Ayano says. In a Famitsu magazine feature translated by Polygon, Ayano says that Ultra Street Fighter IV will receive updates of its own, to keep the game going.

“I think the battle balance in a fighting game is something that needs to be constantly changing,” Ayano shared. “This is just my personal opinion, but I like to see updates happen at just the right time to retain a sense of constant motion within the game mechanics.”

“I’m sure I’ll get feedback from gamers once Ultra IV is out for a while, and I want to use that feedback as much as I can to raise and nurture the game.”

[Note that these won’t necessarily be updates that you’ll need to pay for. Capcom have released a number of free balance updates for their fighters.]

Ultra Street Fighter IV will be available in early 2014 for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game will be available both as a standalone title as well as a downloadable update for Super Street Fighter IV.

Capcom! So greedy! Taking all our money! Etc! I’m not buying this!

Anyway this is great news. Any time a fighting game adds new characters, it really needs a year or two to settle and then it needs a rebalance. New characters in FGs tend to be way too strong or way too weak, so additional balance updates are appreciated.

I’m sold. Thanks Capcom. I disliked you for a long time for whatever reason, but you really do treat some of your series very well. Like SF and MH. :)

This game is gonna come out on PS4 and XBone in 2014 huh?

    • http://www.jb2x.com/wordpress/ JB2X

Where does it say anything about this?

      • SpecDotSign

Just writing my thoughts out loud. When asked if the game is coming out on next gen consoles, Capcom reps always respond with, “we are not commenting on next gen development right now”. It’s bound to happen. The Capcops just want all the revenue they can get.

Ono said: SFV will most likely not until 2018.

This however should be exclusive to this generation.

    • Kaitsu

It’s just an update to the current SSF4. But I wouldn’t doubt the possibility of a port for the next gen.

I’m disappointed they removed the ‘super’ prefix. I’d rather have ‘Super Street Fighter IV 2012 Arcade Edition Turbo’
