The Order: 1886 Takes Place In A High-Tech Victorian London

As previously reported, Ready at Dawn are working on a new PlayStation 4 I.P. titled The Order: 1886. The third-person shooter takes place in a Victorian London, although Ready at Dawn have had some fun with the setting, they reveal in a blog post.

This version of Neo-Victorian London has seen advances in technology. Electricity is present throughout the city well before its time and gas lamps are replaced by electric street lights. A subway system is in place, too, and instead of simply running underground, the trains run above ground as well, in between buildings.

In addition, watchtowers are placed throughout the city, and extend into the skyline, scanning the city. Finally, you and your squadmates will have access to advanced weaponry and communicators. All of these changes, Ready at Dawn say, arose from the Industrial Revolution.

Looks excellent. I just hope it’s not going to be just another shooter with vampires instead of terrorists and handcrafted mosquettes instead of M-4…

Ha ha oh man, you just described my exact nightmare. From what I’ve seen, I just do not know if this game will take a turn for “game that actually mines the time period for an interesting story and gameplay mechanics that stand out from the rest”, or just “GoW but with top hats instead of power armor”. I do so hope it will be the former.

“A subway system is in place, too”

Depending on where those lines run, that would actually be historically accurate.
