Last night, Namco Bandai announced a Super Robot Taisen fighting game for the PlayStation 3, titled Super Robot Taisen OG Infinite Battle. The game won’t feature a story and Namco announced early details like simplified controls and some of the mechs that you’ll get to play as.

Additionally, the game’s first trailer is available for viewing now and shows off in-game footage of the mechs going at it. You can watch this above. Namco have also said that Infinite Battle will allow for 1 vs. 1, 2 vs. 2, and 1 vs. 3 fights.

Super Robot Taisen OG Infinite Battle is slated for release on November 28th in Japan.

This game is so much win. I’ve looked forward to the day of a new fighting game featuring Super Robots. I thought it would be a Tech Romancer HD remake or sequel, but no, it’s a mothertrucking awesomesauce Super Robot Wars OG fighting game — with Dygenguar, Cybuster and Vysaga.
I am very hyped regarding this game.

  • Sardorim

I’m passing. I don’t like fighting games too much and no story? Why should I care why they’re even there than?

Mortal Kombat 9, Blazblue, and Injustice have spoiled me by showing that Fighting Games with story are possible and very awesome.

    • Bigabu Beaze

Man do you like Super robot taisen at all? This is the type of game I’d wish they’d make! All we need now is CC2 to make a Little Tail Bronx game using the Gundam Vs Gundam engine/design. Oh and Capcom should make a new Gotcha Force and Nintendo should put out a Custom Robo game!

      • Sardorim

Yes, in fact I do. I play the SRT games that have a great story such as OG verse games or mainline games like z2 saga. This has no story so there’s no draw for me here. It took great stories for me to enjoy MK9, Injustice, and Blazblue even though I’m not a super Fighting game fan.

        • Bigabu Beaze

Alrite then fair enough. Do you play Armored Core games then? Or LBX?

    • VenerableSage

I do agree to some degree about the story – if they’re going to make Masaki, Ryusei, and Kyosuke’s time in ACE:R part of the official story, I don’t see why they couldn’t come up with something that tied into actual narrative of the OG saga for this.

Heck, they could make it something like EFA Simulator Training using recorded combat data from the Hiryu and Hagane/Kurogane crews’ battles during OG1 and OG2 for new EFA pilots while the events of OGG were going on – then for added “challenge” for the new pilots, they could craft crazy scenarios that never happened as tests.

      • Sardorim

Indeed. They could easily make it into a story but chose not to. I don’t really like that decision as the story is a huge reason I play the other SRT games, that and the gameplay and characters/series.

    Dat Dark Prison
Oh and Russel will be OP as hell mark my words…

    • Sardorim

Ryusei better have his combo attack with Mai still. Love it when she tries to act like Ryusei.

  • SetzerGabbiani

Glad to see Bamco has a sense of humor using Russel as the showcase pilot for the Gespenst.

    • VenerableSage

I’ll be extremely amused if his dinky Gespenst Mk-II M takes the least amount of damage out of every unit in the game.

    • Lynx

He’s very popular in Japan so……

  • VenerableSage

The actual gameplay looks very choppy; with it being 80% complete, I’m not expecting the quality to improve much between now and its Japanese release date.

I love the concept, but the execution’s simply just not there. As it stands, I’ll pass on this and just pick up the DLC for 2nd OG once it’s available online.

    • Blazkn

Yeah, same here. I love SRW, the announcement got me really hyped, but the actual gameplay looks too clunky…

    • SetzerGabbiani

Yeah. It doesn’t look great. It seems like pure fan-service using ACE’s engine and calling it a fighting game.

  • Lynx

I’ll need to see if it has local multiplayer or any of the sort.

It does look like a fun game to play with friends.

  • http://yaminoseigi.blogspot.com/ Yami no Seigi

The quality seems abit lower than recent SRW game and screams like far from finished.

Kinda remind me of Real Robot Final Attack which was not too good.

  • fyi1191

I don’t feel the SRW epicness from this game. Just look at Thrudgelmir (Wodan).

  • Neophoton

It looks fun, but it also looks pretty choppy… I’m guessing at its current state, probably won’t be that much better in the final product. :/

  • Abend

looks like its based of the ace game engine no thanks such a clunky pile of poop.

  • soulz

Kinda looks like DBZ Tenkaichi but with Super robots.

    • Syn

My thoughts Exactly!!! looks just like Tenkaichi with Robots, looks like awesome fun.

  • ArOne

Is it my imagination or do the SRX team keep getting the short end of the stick with each new OG release? The only thing the ATX team has going for me is Sanger.

    • s07195

Well, maybe the ATX team is more popular?

      • greeeed

        Thanks to new anime
OG 2nd anime use cool 2d battle

while first OG anime used test 3d battle to save money but they fall so hard that they end up using 2d battle for second season

      • Just Tim

But, SRX team has been around since 1996, while the ATX team just emerged in the 2000s.

      • greeeed

        it because of the anime
SRX anime have garbage 3d mecha battle as test since it’s a lot cheaper

but ATX anime have good 2d mech battle because they learn their lesson from their first anime (SRX part)

  • ThomasTruong

…Someone is on the defensive with any negative comments.

  • xeleion

So it’s Gundam Vs Gundam with OG characters. I can dig it.

  • Just Tim

Like I said before, it’s best if an SRW OG fighting game uses the Tekken engine, which allows:

–cross-collaboration between the SRW and Tekken teams
–it further helps build the growing brand awareness of SRW outside Japan, to the point Tekken Boss Katsuhiro Harada will help push SRW, just like what he’s doing with idolm@aster
–It won’t be an encore of Super Robot Spirits, because of the Tekken team’s expertise in 3D fighting; after all, Tekken innovated it.
