One Of Namco’s Oldest RPGs Is Headed To 3DS Virtual Console In Japan

By Ishaan . August 30, 2013 . 2:30pm

One of Namco’s oldest RPGs is being released on the Nintendo eShop for 3DS in Japan next week—The Adventure of Valkyrie: Legend of the Time Key, a game published for the Famicom in 1986.

The Adventure of Valkyrie is played from a top-down view and features real-time battles. You start out as the Valkyrie, with close to no powers or equipment, and just your sword. Over time, you collect gold, equipment and skills and the character develops into the way she looks on the game’s cover.

The Adventure of Valkyrie will be available on September 4th for 500 yen.

I’ve never played this one, but man is its sequel awesome.

  • British_Otaku

I was introduced to her in Project X Zone not too long ago (I need to finish that game soon and get on with my DS backlog), she wasn’t the most interesting character off the bat, nor will she get much of a chance being a solo support.

    I’ll give it a go though…

She wasn’t the most interesting character / unit in Namco x Capcom either, but I always respect the games that got a company where they are now. She’s obviously popular to appear in various games. I believe she has an outfit in a Tales game, too.

A costume in a Tales game? I hope it was one of the ones which got localised, I wouldn’t mind checking that out.

… Judging from the Wikipedia page for the first Valkyrie game, the costume is in Xillia while she has cameos and costumes in other Tales games including Phantasia (PSX and GBA – Statue + her), Destiny (PSX – Summoned to attack by an item), Eternia (1 on 1 battle with her, her music plays), Tales of the World: Narikiri Dungeon 3 (fight her, perhaps unlock her or wear a costume), Tales of Hearts (summon support) and Tales of the Abyss (her helmet is a visible equip for Anise)…

That’s just the recorded Tales cameos up there… Perhaps she will get another game, or just a mobile one sometime soon…

She was the one that summon Cless to say that she wanted Odin’s spear back and helped Cless to fight Ishrantu when you finally hit 50% of the plot on phantasia. She was a boss in Eternia too. And the first dungeon of Naridan X has her theme song playing instead of the dungeon getting its own theme.

Ahh…How i would like to see a new Valkyrie game…

Oh that was her? I never knew that lol, makes me feel like trying it out now.

          • Ni ~UNREAL BLACK THINGS~

in Tales of the World Narakiri Dungeon 2 she’s a boss too. i heard that you can play as her in naridan 2, but since i don’t much about the game i can’t say much. And in SC2 cassandra can use Valkyrie’s costume.

Well lots of characters in PxZ were kinda toned down from their games due to how many characters are in the game.

  • Anna Scruton

I wanted to play this game so freaking bad. Such a shame it will never come westward.

  • Spirit Macardi

They really should translate this and put it on the eShop here, considering there’s a comic on shiftyLook based off this series that’s become quite popular.

    • Tyler Beale

I seriously doubt they have the tools to modify NES ROMs anymore.

      • Spirit Macardi

If random people on the Internet can do it free of charge you’d like to think an official company could too.

        • Tyler Beale

Well, if that were possible, then I’d love to see Tales of Phantasia on the VC! Using deJap’s version of course, but without their logo on the title screen.

          • Stephen

There’s no way they’d ever use that version though, considering the way that Dejap translated the game and liberally added certain manners of speaking in there.

          • Tyler Beale

What “manners”? It’s been so long since I played it so I really can’t remember.

          • Stephen

Basically they changed the dialogue in a way that made it a little edgier than it was supposed to be.

    • Tatsuya1221

Well, they could always use the fan translation, though if it’s the same game as the arcade version, the arcade game is both translated and probably a better game.

this game of valkyrie is really shitty. getting Densetsu and Toki kagi no densetsu (ps1) would be alot better.

Would be buy this just to show how i really like namco’s valkyrie since she is one of my favorite female heroines. but i’m not going to play this game. one time (PS1) was enough. But in the case of Densetsu and Toki kagi no Densetsu i would play the shit out of them and see if i can still do perfect runs of both.

  • Slayven19

Well it staying in japan isn’t going to help me so until I see that western release no deal.

  • Demeanor

You kinda have to IMAGINE she looks like in the cover by the endgame… XD

  • I was expecting the sequel when I saw that image, but oh well. Namco should consider rebooting the series.
