The Makers Of Akiba’s Trip And Puzzle & Dragons Has A New RPG

By Spencer . September 3, 2013 . 12:09am

Acquire, the developer behind Akiba’s Trip and Class of Heroes, became a fully owned subsidiary of GungHo Online Entertainment last year. While Acquire is a GungHo studio, they have mostly done their own thing and made games like Mind≒0. The two companies are working together on a new RPG called Divine Gate.

The tagline at the end says to "turn the whole world inside out." Divine Gate is described as a stylish and speedy puzzle RPG for iOS and Android devices. The game will be a free to play title just like GungHo’s money maker Puzzle & Dragons.

Didn’t know what platform it was for. Watched it. Saw cards. Guessed it was mobile. Was right.

  • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

    Oh god, fucking cards.

I was interested at puzzle rpg(Golden Sun why have you left that void in me… why….)

    • heartless141

      There’s Catherine :P

      • brian

        But not an RPG?

    • AndyLC

Check out チェインクロニクル (chain chronicles) then. It’s… I think you can call it a puzzle game.

  • HatsyaSouji

I’d rather have an XCOM-ish playstyle of a Class of Heroes game instead. I want to see my students suffer, I can feel the adventure school drama more with it!

  • Shady Shariest

    Too many mobile games…

    • leingod

I’m really hoping that trend dies soon.

      • ishyg

Not gonna die in Japan, I suppose.

    • Gemlit

Ya, it’s just not profitable for many developers to do a high risk low reward sort of console game anymore in the comparison to mobile games.

      • Shady Shariest

Hmhm~m kinda hoping that Sony’s Indie boom wcould change things for better on consoles :/

      • Warboss Aohd

perhapz, but wit’ so many o’ dese comin’ out, many are gonna be ignored do ta bein’ flooded wit more an’ more gamez.

        • Shady Shariest

I know rite?It will take some good design from Sony to counter this! :)

          Only time will tell…
…Just hoping they won’t just make an “Indie”-category and dump everything there :/

          • Warboss Aohd

            dat…….would be even riskier actually.

          • Shady Shariest

            And… More likely :/
Steam and Co. Just Dump Indies to “Indie category” -_-‘

          • Warboss Aohd

maybe so, but with Steam nearly every game on dere makez major money, even indies (Reccetear did far better than they thought it would for instance), not so much everywhere else.

          • Shady Shariest

Yup. But Steam lacks a way to search its contents… Anyone who uses it can agree that it has maybe the worlds worst search engine… EVER. :P

Finding indies is also harder, because they are their own “Genre” there apparently :) It forces the people that WAN’T indie to search trough the whole category for a game they’d like… While the casual audience will with a high chance NOT even see the game anywhere else than maybe on sales…

Greenlight has been a good thing too! (Voted on over 650 games) But it feels like Valve doesn’t know how to utilize what they make… In other words: They need help. A lot. Fast.

    • Kai2591

but it might actually help fund them in making big console games due to high profitability of mobile games!
…or because of their high profitability, they stop making big console games and just make even more mobile games….*sigh*

      • Shady Shariest

Yup. I can understand this case though… Puzzle & Dragons has been a hit from what i’ve heard…

But on the lighter side mobile gaming is slowly cannibalizing itself… Once it gets unprofitable to do the “Card Game iOS num: 412424124” because of the market overflowing things will get interesting.

I don’t know/care enough to say anything more than that about mobile games…

Also: 2/3rd’s of the next gen are PC-arch. So it will make developing WITH SENSE cheaper. And to help further Sony has taken part in the indie boom, too :3

        • Kai2591

Good thing I have a good PC ready then :)

          • Shady Shariest

Yup, yup :3 Same here :)

  • safeto20scroll

    Oh god… another card game..
I got baited by the nice character art ._.

  • DyLaN

Cue the usual bitc- Oh wait.

People sure love to bash things w/out giving it a chance, eh? It MIGHT turn out to be decent in the end.

  • Aristides

Whatever happened to cross platform support, I like that these games are on mobile, but for Christ’s sake at least make a PC port if not a PSN version.

  • almostautumn

Sounds awesome. Puzzle and Dragons is one of the most addicting and cool games I’ve played in a while; definitely look forward to what else these guys can come up with.
**btw: anyone else check out Tetris Monsters? I dunno if its on the western iTunes store yet but it is in JPN; game is friggin’ wild! It’s pretty much a straight rip-off of P&D but with Tetris: but also, instead of a first-person dungeon on top, there are full character models who each have individual attack animations.
    Really cool game!
