<< Last week’s software sales chart

Last week’s best-selling game was JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle, the anime fighter developed by CyberConnect 2 and Namco Bandai. The game sold a whopping 425,718 copies in its first week—not surprising, given the popularity of the JoJo brand.

Following behind it at #2 was Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn for PlayStation 3. The PS3 version of the game sold 184,018 copies in its first week. Sales of the PC version are unknown, as sales tracker Media-Create don’t release PC sales data publicly.

Finally, Lost Planet 3 was released last week as well, and sold a mere 27,503 copies. Perhaps Media-Create will provide further details in their supplementary report later this week.

With regard to older games on the chart, here’s something interesting to note—Level 5’s Youkai Watch actually increased in sales again last week, over the week prior. Word of mouth seems to be doing its job here, as the Nintendo 3DS role-playing game has been holding up very well indeed, in the weekly software rankings.

Finally, here’s another point of interest—Nintendo 3DS hardware sales increased by about 16,000 units over the week prior as well, despite the fact that there were no new 3DS games released. Why? We imagine people are getting prepared for the arrival of Monster Hunter 4, which releases in two weeks.

Wow. I heard Jojo did well, but 425k+ units well? That is wryyyyyly good (no pun intended). Also, good to see A Realm Reborn doing well, but the unit gap between that Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is just…. wow.

    • Brion Valkerion

Don’t forget one is a MMO, FF or not, and the other is a beloved multi-media franchise for what 25ish years now?.

      • Barrylocke89

Yeah, it’s the same as Dragon Quest X. It sold 367K units, which is a lot for most games, but not really for Dragon Quest.

The fact that it’s online means that it’s a different style of game that caters to a different audience, and the fans who don’t care for/don’t want to commit to an MMO likely already know themselves.

  • TheExile285

Vita and Wii U sales for this week are depressing.

    • Herok♞

No new games for them so no reason to buy them this week.

      • Suicunesol

Ace released for Vita, but Vita sales still fell. I guess mostly people who bought Ace before got the upgrade? Or mostly people already own Ragnarok Odyssey.

        • TheExile285

well Ace is an update RO. I think he meant new new games.

        • Herok♞

Thats just an updated game, no reason to go out and buy a system

        • TheExile285

The game wasn’t that great to begin with it. They did add a lot to it but I’m still not sure if I want to drop another $40 for it.

I wouldn’t expect amazing numbers from the PS3 version either.

  • Suicunesol

The good Famitsu score probably helped a bunch too.

    • AkuLord3

and you know…the FAME of the series and the anime rehyping people but yeah…totally Famitsu lol

      • Pdugna

i want part 3+ in the new anime style….JoJo in Bluray is glorius and very well directed. the older shows jump around to much in variance.

  • xAtKx

When was the last time I saw a game sell that much in the first week?

    • ronin4life

I think it was One Piece related.

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

      Dragon Quest 7 remake?^_^

  • DemonShadowX

I am currently awaiting my copy of Jojo to come in from FedEx.. … HURRY UP!!!

  • glad to see jojo doing so well

    • TheExile285

      • eventually, once im done with the manga

  • puchinri

I’m actually surprised it didn’t do better, but very glad it did so well~.

  • SirRichard

It well deserves its spot, I’m playing it right now and just all the little touches and references and everything, it’s wonderful. I have not felt just so satisfied, simply, as I did when I blasted Dio out over his balcony and got rewarded with a trophy titled “WRYYYYYYYYYYY” as he fell.

  • Istillduno

Good to see it doing well, although I hope CC2 sort out the almost everyone has a jab infinite in on the square stages because there’s no gravity scaling thing without messing up the other stuff you can do with the system too much.

  • hazelnut1112

Gotta go to the nearest import game store to get me a copy of Jojo’s.
Good thing there are many here in LA.

  • ronin4life

Really excited for MH4; not so much for the import mark ups…
    @[email protected];;
Slightly off topic, but seriously… just over one more week…>.<::

  • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

Ouch at those PSV sales. That brings back bad memories from last year~.

    • leingod

What’s wrong with them? A third place is respectable. The only games that went over 100k were the ones that released this past week.

      • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

8k units is really low. Third place or not~.

  • Demeanor

I wasn’t expecting such strong numbers for JoJo! I guess Famitsu’s score also helped. I’d better get back to the manga (in 4th arc atm) while waiting for a Western release date, I’d like to recognize all characters and stands when I’ll finally play this.

  • malek86

Well well, looks like Jojo is definitely luckier in its hometown.

*kudos if you get the reference

  • tubers

Holy crap at that Jojo game!

Makes me think it could’ve helped the VITA (current gen fighter ports aren’t really rare for it).

    Maybe an upgraded/updated port someday?

    • TheExile285

seems a lot of people are upset about the balance so a port probably wouldn’t help

a JoJo exclusive beat em up for Vita would probably sell very well though

      • leingod

Yep, people are complaining about balance… but CC2 stated sometime before release that this game wasn’t for hardcore fighting game fans… so I don’t see them working too much on that.

      • MrSirFeatherFang

Not having high hopes because i knew CC2 focused on fanservice but the is a balance patch coming on the 10th.

    • brian

That’d probably only help it in Japan, since it would probably sell just decently at best for anyone else and then a bunch of jpn devs would make games for it that never get localized.
      Just like with PSP.

  • shuyai

are they doing a Rasengan baseball version? anyway i am surprise JoJo is that popular call me shallow but the (fist of northern star like) retro art style make it hard for me to take it seriously since there are to many funny anime/manga parody make fun of it

  • Arcana Wiz

cool, i have yet to completly see the anime, but this series seems very unique and cool, so glad to it have good sales.

  • Hinataharem

Feels good to have contributed to game sales like this

  • British_Otaku

The Wonderful 101 didn’t make the cut on the second week?
I know it has less chance of having legs than licensed games from One Piece (it’s a port and it’s still doing well) among others, but really…

Oh well, I guess I’ll have to do what I did for Okami, just enjoy the title and others to try it regardless of initial sales. That’s what I should do in general for new IP.

  • AndyLC

I wa shocked that someone actually bought LP3…

  • goldenlander

Looks like Pikmin 3 sells better than The Wonderful 101.

    • British_Otaku

Pikmin got 92,720 on the first week, the previous games got 90,000 and 160,000 on the first week. Before The Wonderful 101 was released, we saw Pikmin 2’s Wii New Play release in the charts in a case where Wii U software was increasing the sales of prior Wii software.

The gap between the two in overall recognition and sales is pretty massive at least in Japan.

  • Aristides

Wasn’t RO Ace for PS3 too? Did it not chart? I’m happy the PSV ver got plenty of love though.
