Check Out One Piece Unlimited World: Red’s Original Scenario And Characters

By Sunjun . September 15, 2013 . 5:00pm

Namco Bandai has revealed a new trailer for One Piece Unlimited World: Red. Like in the previous Unlimited World games, there are open world elements in which you can collect bugs and ingredients to build weapons and cook food. You can play as any of the nine Straw Hat Pirates and connect with three of your friends.

The game also includes a new scenario written by the original creator Eiichiro Oda centered around the mysterious white-haired pirate Red and the talking tanuki Pat, who has the power to give shape to people’s memories—which may explain why we see a horde of old enemies like Crocodile, Enel, Hody Jones, Caesar Clown, and the three admirals from Marineford.

One Piece Unlimited World: Red will be released for the Nintendo 3DS on November 21. The first press run edition will come with a download code for Luffy’s costume from the movie One Piece: Strong World and the Marineford arc quest where you can play as Luffy’s brother, Ace.

Crocodile, Enel, Aokiji, I neeed dis game!

  • Suicunesol

I heard some Imperial March in there. :P

    Cutscenes are pretty gorgeous.

    • Göran Isacson

Yeah, that was right on the border of “Disney could sue for this”.

      • Shady Shariest

South Park’s version of Mickey is all ready on route to Japan >:3

        • Göran Isacson

Ha ha oh my god I’ve actually seen that episode. Fire and torment shall consume all.

  • Johnnyxt

holy moly does the 3DS pack a punch or what? This far surpass my expectations as the game looks as though its on a console and not on a handheld.

    • Suicunesol

They’re just pre-rendered cutscenes. 3DS can’t render that in rlt.

      • Atmey

I am not sure about that, Koei’s engine is slightly outdated so it can’t render these on 3ds which was our benchmark with Kaizuko musou, but Namco Bandai using another engine so it is possible, only one thing for sure: much less pixel resolution, which leaves me to think Namco Bandai already have the graphic for a port, and much better than your regular HD port.

        • Suicunesol

I think so too. :) Me thinks Namcai Bando plans to release Unlimited World Red Ultimate HD on Wii U or PS3 next year or something.

THEN I would say yes, those are real-time graphics. Either way, the cut scenes only look that good because they’re in HD. The 3DS versions of those cutscenes will be shrunk down with compression.

          • Johnnyxt

I think the chances of it being on the ps vita is higher if not the same as for the ps3. Although, I could care less because it would still be fun on either one. and about the 3ds version of the cutscenes, i think the 3ds’s would still look pretty sharp. Just look at MH4′s or Smash bro’s. =]

          • Suicunesol

I omitted Vita mainly because the Unlimited series has been on Nintendo systems (Wii) so far. And I only mentioned PS3 because of its large audience. Not saying it won’t come to either, though.

Well anime titles don’t really set a high standard on consoles in the first place. To keep with the anime look, the developers will always go with cell-shading. The trick is making the cell-shading look as good as the anime and as beautiful as possible.

      • Atmey

I beg to differ, Naruto games on PS3 looks absolutely amazing, even if it is cell-shaded (which I don’t think is cheap anyway), the animations and background effects are above par.

        • http://people.ign.com/rob1610 rob1610

I didn’t say it was cheap and I didn’t meant to imply cell shading is bad. As I said, the trick is making the cell-shading look as good as the anime and as beautiful as possible. Something CyberConnect2 pull off magnificently. But still, compare Naruto titles to the likes of The Last of Us where Naughty Dog managed to create a beautifully realistic post-apocalyptic world. Naruto may use brighter colors, but both are beautiful in their own right. The difference is that the PS3 can pull off both styles without a hitch, but the 3DS can’t. The Last of Us could look like crap on a 3DS if not done correctly while cell shading can look magnificent no matter what system it’s on. And because of that, I say anime titles don’t really set a high standard on consoles in the first place. I may be wrong in saying that, but now that I’ve explained myself, hopefully you understand what I meant more clearly.

          • Atmey

Being “realistic”, a game theme and art style is a subjective matter.
Handhelds, namely 3ds, biggest drawback is the screen resolution, if it had something relatively closer to smartphone, the game would look as amazing as consoles, just look at PS Vita’s games.

          • http://people.ign.com/rob1610 rob1610

I know that much. That’s why I said it COULD look like crap, not will. I’ve seen plenty of 3DS and PS Vita games that look good in different art styles and so forth.

Interesting storyline. Hope they release them to the west. But one thing I am wondering that is Luffy gonna team up with old enemy against that main bad guy in the game?

    • British_Otaku

      Probably not.

I’m not sure whether it will get to the west or at least your part of it if you live in North America. Namco Bandai have been very weird with the 3DS One Piece games, even for Europe that got 100% of them so far, in pieces…

On the characters? The previous Unlimited games let you play as every character in the game (including generic marine with one slash) in other modes. Here and there, the main characters will have the most fleshed out movesets, these aren’t the original characters so you wouldn’t get Crocodile using reason and choosing to retreat or ally with you (it’s like the Einharjar in Fire Emblem Awakening, but with an accurate design, animations and voice acting) and it is built around a balanced team structure where each crew member has a role. Luffy is almost definitely going to be the same side as Pat for the length of the game though, but I guess a cute mascot being a good guy isn’t much of a surprise.

  • Surgeon of Death

    Hmmm………. NEED’S a localization ASAP.

  • kassandra

might as well port windwaker hd to 3ds….

  • Göran Isacson

Is it the racoon or Red that has the power to shift peoples memories? I am curious since it seems they said something about Impel Down level 6, presumably where Red was incarcerated, and then we see him by Aokiji and Smokers side while breaking out which I would guess is him using his memory power to “summon” them… but then he’s seen eating a Devil Fruit in front of the Straw Hats. Strange. Very strange.

    • British_Otaku

In Unlimited Adventure and Cruise, it was the final boss which was calling from the Straw Hat’s memories (including Doflamingo and Whitebeard which they haven’t yet met) which makes immediate sense given that video game bosses (especially legendary monsters of doom, destruction and death) i hostile and gives an excuse for pirates, marines, zombies, Oars and Vivi to be on the islands in the games and want you dead…

Pat is questioned by Nami and confirms that it was “all his doing” (probably referencing the restoration of Skypiea and Marineford), so I think that settles that it is his power but I’m sure he couldn’t control his power or was manipulated by Red (who may have multiple devil fruit abilities as it is, it’s hardly like he would be the first boss to be rocking lots of abilities in the series).

Am I right to say that this is the first pirate who escaped from Level 6 when Blackbeard and Luffy attacked to not ally with them to be revealed? Canon or not… I hope Oda and the fillers don’t forget that plotpoint, perhaps there is a lot of potential there.

  • ragingmerifes

This looks absurdly good for the 3DS. It could pass as a Wii U or PS3 title, even!
I just hope the game is as great as it presents itself.

  • subsamuel01

Please bring this over to North America, or at least port it to the Vita so I can import it. This game looks better than pirate warriors.

  • 3PointDecoupage

This game is beautiful. Please give us a US Release! I’m fine with download only, and no english voice actors. I just want to play it.

  • Suriel Cruz

I must say that for a One Piece game, this game looks GORGEOUS.

  • FlameEmperor

    US RELEASE PLEASE! PLEASE!!!!!! PLEEEEEEAAAAAASSSSSSEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Tienron

    time skip characters in a pre-time skip world…..ok then…

    • British_Otaku

This is just like the previous Unlimited games, with the games have always making up an excuse so we have a new setting (we are getting some old settings in additional for once), a fresh final boss and tons of familiar enemies to fight instead of running through the old “Buggy to Marineford” formula (though the Unlimited games usually have tons of characters and make them playable in additional modes with the exception of ones like Oars).

If they worked off the story, we would end up getting much much less.
It isn’t nearly as “LOL TIMESKIP FIGHTING PRE-TIMESKIP” as Kaizoku Musou or Pirate Warriors which doesn’t have a reason for it to my knowledge.
