J-Stars Victory Vs. Adds Jaguar Junichi And Taro Yamada

By Spencer . September 17, 2013 . 12:41pm

Taro Yamada wasn’t one of the characters I thought I would be in J-Stars Victory Vs., but a scan from Jump confirms he will be in the crossover fighting game as a playable character. Taro is from the manga series Chinyuki.

Jaguar Junichi from Pyu to Fuku Jaguar! is also in J-Stars Victory Vs. exclusively as a support character. That’s an interesting tidbit since it gives room for Namco Bandai to add in more Jump characters as support only fighters.

J-Stars Victory Vs. is in development for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

  • I just want Train and Eve back please

    • HerosLight

I don’t care if its Black Cat or To Love Ru version for Eve. I just want her in the game already!

      • Lifestreamer

        • HerosLight

They are the same to me. Just different personalities and looks.

But yes I do prefer Eve more.

      • British_Otaku

I know it’s the same artist and that’s about it…
Both series have a character called Eve and it’s just because or the “Eve” in both series are very similar or expies of each other.

  • Arcana Wiz

maybe this give more chances to nisenkoi, medaka and other less popular series characters?

    • British_Otaku

I would have thought Medaka was big in comparison to these two if only because I know Jaguar through Superstars and a lot has happened since then and I have no idea who Taro is… >_>

The support exclusive thing will mean that more series and characters can be represented, but I’ll always be bitter about that guy I wanted who is only a support.

Who is that guy? Saitama from One Punch Man, or any lead/ major supporting role in something I like from Jump.

      • AkuLord3

You do realize One Punch Man isn’t a Jump series right? Its only put in Jump in the West because of Viz Media

        • British_Otaku

It isn’t a Jump series? It is published by Shueisha and runs under the Jump Comics imprint (also shared by all Weekly Shonen Jump manga).

I don’t see why it wouldn’t be able to pass through, when Steel Ball Run made it into the last Shonen Jump crossover games on the DS.

        • Lifestreamer

Yeah, it’s from Young jump webcomics.

          • British_Otaku

And it is still printed under the Jump Comics imprint. >_>

  • Highasthesky

    I just want Tsuna, DAMMIT!

  • hazelnut1112

    Support characters confirmed?
Hell yeah, now it’s going to be in the debate of who will be in as playable and Support.
Still needs Bobobo, Don Patch and Kinnikuman.

  • Eric Nash

Still want monster trio as playable

    • British_Otaku

I would be annoyed if we got Luffy, Zoro and Sanji in, not only ignoring the rest of the crew (including more interesting members as far as combat style), it also would look bad to have them lined up when other series only get one or two characters.

This isn’t my game sure, but I don’t want to see Sanji in the game as a playable character if Zoro makes it. I’ve got my reasons.

  • Koibito888

So much for important Jump characters :/

    • British_Otaku

If you name any crossover game, you can probably name outliers (who are the Ice Climbers… or Pit again? Before Pit’s 3DS revival anyway) who made the cut and interesting characters who didn’t (King Dedede was planned for the Smash Bros iirc) or got in in the most botched sense (see Ganondorf for two games in a row).

I doubt any of these announcements on their own are going to be very representative of the main product.

So far, we have some of the most popular currently long running manga represented, Dragon Ball (been finished for nearly two decades, but we expect it), some rival characters of the first group and this which has a character with 20 volumes (Medaka Box is the same) behind him as support only and whatever Taro is as a playable character.

      • Koibito888

I know, I just worry about the character roster. Like… It’s equally possible to load this game with characters as it is to hold back on the number since it’s a new project. If they announce room for everyone then fine, have the lame stuff, but i’ll be upset if stuff like this takes up the space Tsuna, Yoh, Allen, Seiya, just bigger name stuff and stuff that hasn’t yet properly been used in a big fighter like this (those that actually matter anyway) and just need to be in this game way over whatshisface. I don’t doubt the main game will be great anyway or even that this marks the end of good character announcements, I just want some good stuff.

        • AkuLord3

Just because characters you don’t know/aren’t ur favorites aren’t in doesn’t make it not good…this is a game being made by for the Japanese Audience who knows these characters better than you…so don’t be surprised if they have a different taste than you.

          • Koibito888

Okay lets be real for a second, regardless of my opinion here, there are just much much much more characters that need to be in this game for popularity reasons in Japan alone. First off, Shaman King and Saint Seiya, can’t think of a better, more desired option in Japan than these. Not only is Shaman King very popular, it is a good 15 chapters into a new, canon series. Saint Seiya is like DBZ in popularity in Japan AND is getting relevant games. Characters from both of those should be announced way before something as random as this series which doesn’t even have any info pages on it, none in japanese either. I can’t even find the sources that tell if it’s popular or not. I bet no one really cares, and that’s just a bad move if this is taking up the space of any popular series’ but I doubt it at this point. Point is, this should not qualify as an announcement for a character, I mean as a released piece of info it’s sure not selling any copies lol. I mean at least the other guy is heard of and opens the whole support idea. No one cares about the new character, really, not even in Japan most likely.

  • Aw, I wanted Junichi as a playable character, just like in Jump Ultimate Stars! He rocks in online matches! At least Bo-BoBo and Don Patch are shoe-ins!

  • RichyGaming

    Krillin, plox

  • Kintama

I really want Yoh and Allen to be playable characters

    • Detrimont

i dont think Allen will be playable, seeing as D.Gray-Man changed magazines

      • MrSirFeatherFang

It’s in Jump Square, that’s also owned by Shueisha. I don’t think you should rule out the possibility until it’s released

        • Detrimont

i’m not, but so far all characters have been strictly from WSJ

    • KuroRyuu913

  • Minos

    I can’t wait for Koro-Sensei.

    • British_Otaku

The manga has been doing really well and the event anime is probably going to be shown pretty soon, but I’m not sure if he stays a chance at getting in even as a support given how new he is…

Of course, it would be brilliant marketing for the manga and anime, even if it pisses off fans of 80s, 90s and 2000s manga worldwide.

      Totally worth it.

  • Brandonmkii

Has anybody been clamoring for Clair from Claymore to get in here? I’d really like to see her in this.

    • British_Otaku

I’m sort of surprised she didn’t make it into any of the DS Jump Stars games… I wouldn’t mind her but I haven’t read the manga or seen the show (which I hear has a poor ending).

      • Norman Fong Ochoa

Maybe because Claymore, at that time, was a Monthly Shonen Jump Manga, and only ran a few chapters in Weekly Jump between Monthly Jump’s demise and Jump SQ’s advent.

Claymore is published on Jump Square. and while Jump SQ is published by Shueisha the series really don’t have that ” weekly shounen jump” feel

    • TheExile285

Oh man, I would kill to see Clair in this

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    I’m sorry but who?

    • John Diamond

Pyuu fuku no jaguar or something idk how to spell it. It’s a really funny manga about some guy with a recorder

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

oh this is the first time I heard about them

        • British_Otaku

Did you play Jump Superstars/Ultimate Stars? It was the first time I heard of many of the currently running Jump series, Jaguar was playable and pretty funny.

I recommend it if you are looking forward to Jojo representation (likely) or seeing Killua as a playable character (less likely).

  • Kaihedgie

  • TheMightyKamina

Please, more reveals at TGS,the guy aside from Jaguar, doesn’t amount much hype, the ‘announncement’ of support-only is the thing that got people hyped,at least in my opinion

  • MasterScrub

Support characters? I hope that means we get some people from Eyeshield 21 and Prince of Tennis.

    • British_Otaku

I don’t know about you but I wouldn’t mind sports manga getting playable characters for a change. Kuroko no Basket and Eyeshield 21 would be interesting eitherway, but more so when they haven’t had any “fighting” games.

      • MasterScrub

Oh I would be all for that, I just don’t see them doing it sadly.

    • Tonton Ramos

I just want Hiruma Youichi as playable of teh GUNZ! Since they will add support characters might as well put Sena, Sakuragi, or Echizen then.

  • ivanchu77

I remember Jaguar from jump ultimate stars, he was… weird :s , first time i heard of the other guy.

can´t wait to see the other characters

    • TheMightyKamina

Yeah i Remember Jaguar from JUS too,he was interesting, this other guy with a creepy face i don’t recognize

      • Norman Fong Ochoa

According to a list in Wikipedia, Chinyuki -Taro to Yukai na Nakamatachi- ran between 1990 and 1992 and was authored by Man☆gataro.

    • Internet is Crash

Jaguar had awesome aerial moves in that game. His special attacks were creepy yet strong as well

  • NimbusStev

This is probably the most exciting character reveal so far! The floodgates have been opened! If these guys can get in, we know we’re in for a huge cast of characters.

  • Göran Isacson

Huh, support characters are also available? THAT opens up the potential for a lot more appearances… but I wonder who this Taro is? I know of Jaguar, but I’ve never even HEARD of Taro.

    • TheMightyKamina

From what i’m seeing the only ones who remember him are the japanese, even though his manga is from the 90’s the ones which normally we would remember or at least heard of
