<< Last week’s software sales chart

Last week was a fairly uneventful one in Japan, with new notable new releases making their way into the market. As a result, Monster Hunter 4 remained at the top spot of the top-20 software sales chart, with no other game even close to its sales for the week.

Meanwhile, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Flash saw a steep drop in its second week. We’re keeping an eye on Trails in the Flash to see how it performs over the next couple of weeks, so hopefully, we’ll be able to put some sort of a report on it together in the near future.

Next week, the fun begins again, with the releases of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, and the new PlayStation Vita 2000 model.

The top-20 chart for the week was as follows:

    13.009.962DS!

Youkai Watch sales as always pretty good :D
Even more as a cross-media project which doesn’t have an anime yet.

  • Chris Yuen

Man, those Vita sales=/ Would be nice to see the PSVita TV mixing things up a bit, but as someone who owns both a 3DS and a Vita, Sony really need some killer app on the Vita (and I don’t mean the half dozen or so “collaborative battle” games that they are rolling out)

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Killer app? Shorten all the loading times and make a diverse library. Redesign the sticks. Drop the price for memory. Smooth out the corners you cut when manufacturing the device. There that’s your killer app, and have every PSVita come with Puyo Puyo Touch Tetris. To show off the back touchscreen functionality.

I see good things coming from MH4+Pokemon. Highest series debut for MH.

    • Lucky Dan

Chris Yuen, a killer app is not gonna save the Vita at all. Sony does not have the manpower to make 2 systems successful no matter how much you advertise from neogaf or have the neogaf sony defense force online they will still see Vita as it is a totally niche system with some selective titles.

They don’t even create iconic 1st party titles, Killzone and infamous aren’t that good and isn’t enough to carry a system, third parties don’t put as much effort as 1st party titles so they are completely screwed by the get go.

The only way they are gonna save the Vita IMHO is make it a portable Playstation 4, what they should of done in the first place Sony instead of following or outdoing Microsoft footsteps which is paramount to suicide at the moment (they are only gonna get the pure fanboys and people who want something new not the general audience) is that they should of made PS4 and Vita equivalent where instead of using the Vita TV is to use the PS4 and Vita interchangeable where the Vita itself could be used as a controller for the PS4 similar to the Dual Shock, where you just bring the Vita over to your friends place and be able to play your games and the PS4 together on separate screen that would of been more revolutionary than what they are doing now.

but alas the Sony creativity department are lacking ideas, sort of why they couldn’t really create a controller and steal everything from everywhere else.

This would make Vita owners happy, PS4 owners might wanna get a Vita and there is no need to purchase extra controller unless really needed, the vita would skyrocket and it would be entertaining that PS4 and vita shares the same library making it portable.

      • AndreasStalin

Cool idea, but meaning the Vita would then cost something around $1500-2000 if Sony should not lose money selling it as I can imagine putting ps4 tech inside a portable right now would be kind of expensive and the battery would probably have to weight about a ton, but apart from that, great idea!

        • Lucky Dan

Well its achievable for Apple and they don’t cost that much to build and construct and its compatible with the PS4, it would be similar to the game pad on the Wii U but not quite the same as both would same console in itself.

I don’t think it would cost no where near as much as your thinking, I’m talking about lower the specs of the PS4 so it would be equivalent to the vita and the Vita TV there is no need to have the PS4 as powerful as it is right now.

they could of made it similar to the Wii U and the game pad but just focus on the games and it can be crossed played.

Even games haven’t even utilized the maximum power of the PS3 atm and nothing is truly has impressed me from the library of titles.

    • AndreasStalin

The Vita already have one killer app and that game is called Gravity Rush. Yeah the game is actually THAT good, just way too few people know about it or have tried it, hope all that changes when GR II comes around. Man I love my Vita just for that one game and then you have Totori and Meruru+ as a nice bonus. But people if you have not tried Gravity you are really missing out so go get that Vita today (or when new model launches anyway).

      • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

        Needs more Jet Set Radio.

  • Muffum

Honestly, the most surprising thing to me this week is that WWHD didn’t move much from its spot. I expected it to drop from the sales charts like a rock after its first week.

Though that probably speaks less for its longevity, and more for the fact that nothing of note was really released this week.

    • ronin4life

I think it will have decent legs, or at least better than many seem to think. But its place here seems to be caused by no new releases: not much else changed either, and its sales dropped by a lot.

      • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Zelda will still sell. Its the tightest 3D Zelda.

3G sold for a long while.

So I guess it’ll sell till 4G is announced in 2 years

  • pinta_177

man if MH4 killed the vita then pokemon will be the final nail in the coffin, RIP vita

  • ronin4life

Monster Hunter would probably be MUCH higher: It has mantained an 96%+ sellthrough rate, and retailers are still expected to have stock issues for awhile. I can’t see it not passing p3rd, especially when digital is taken into account.

To be honest, I don’t see the 2000 changing much this week or in the long run. It costs the same and is considered by many a downgrade.

    • ronin4life

I GOTS DAH MOSTEST DOWNVOTES!! ALL HAIL KING RONIN-FOUR-LIIIIIIIIIIIIFE!!!

      • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

        Iwa head.

  • Keksus

Monster Hunter 4 should cherish the next 3 days. After that it will be place 2.

  • xAtKx

3 more days till ‘it’ comes…

  • TheGioG

Its only a matter of time before the Pocket Monsters duke it out with the Monster Hunter monsters for top sales spots. Ready your 3DS’s folks, its going to be utter pandemonium…

    • J_Joestar

Just waiting for the day that Pocket Monster Hunter gets greenlighted.

      • TheGioG

Aw yeah, I can see it now. Hunting down a Nargacuga alongside a Lucario… sign me the heck up!
Edit: More downvote bots? Damn, someone sure must hate the anticipation of Pokemon Gen 6…

        • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

          PokemonXMonsterHunterXMonolith Soft?

  • Exkaiser

Man, it’s a rough month for the Vita, isn’t it? First the 3DS surges ahead with Monhun, and up next in a few days is Pokemon, ready to claim heads like the hungry beast it is.

    • Erwin MadJelly

To me the Vita is gonna get critical damage from those two. Leaving Vita out in the dark again.. but at least two vita games are in the top 10.

  • Sentsuizan_93

“Monster Hunter 4 wont budge top spot”
Well, it’s Monster Hunter. I honestly didn’t expect it to–
    *looks at Pokemon X/Y*
    ……Yet.

    • subsamuel01

Pokemon will beat Monster hunter any day globally, but I think MH is going to have the upper hand in Japan. It will obviously take its #1 spot next week though.

  • http://simplephilistine.wordpress.com/ Arla

What are the chances the release of XY actually boost MH4 sales? Obviously XY is going to take the number one spot, but I imagine quite a number of people are going to pick up both when it’s released. I’m sure some people decided to skip 3G and some were waiting to buy a 3DS until Pokemon was released for it.

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Well… Pokemon’s launch allocation is sold out apparently or whatever. They seem to be helping each other

    • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

Initially, they’ll compete for people’s attention, but in the long run, being on the same system as Pokémon and Animal Crossing will absolutely help Monster Hunter.

      • jugss

        175 down votes?

        • School Idol Addict

Probably Disqus who’s acting funny once again.

          • PreyMantis

Or someone is just a big Nintendo hater that they made multiple accounts just to over-down vote people.

          • neocatzon

            100+ accounts?

          • PreyMantis

It’s not impossible if you make bots.

          • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Bot bot bot bot bot bot bot BAAAAHHHHTTTTT Botte Botte Botte bop bop

        • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

Just some nutjob with a bot who likes to downvote positive Nintendo news. He’s been at it for a while.

          • School Idol Addict

            Oh ?
I thought it was another problem with Disqus…
Some peoples really don’t know what to do with their life…

  • Betrayer

    MH4 OP plz nerf

  • subsamuel01

Wow only three thousand Vitas sold. Sad too see, they need to make a monster hunter game on the Vita, it needs it bad.

  • z_merquise

    @Ishaan

The publisher for Trails in the Flash PSV is From Software. It should be Falcom, right?

    • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

      Fixed!

  • ShadowDivz

    Playstation Vita:What’s it say master?
Me: Uh…. That i don’t regret buying you for a second and everyone underestimates your potential!
    *pets*

    • Erwin MadJelly

I Feel you. *hugs my vita and try not to cry for a moment*

  • DanteMasamune

I wonder how much money Capcom made of Monster Hunter 4.

    • ronin4life

      All of it.

  • bloogeyz

Look at that ridiculous surgance in sales of older 3DS titles due to the NOJ promotion, that’s more impressive

  • 愛憎

I happened to be at a mall on launch day, and I saw the line to purchase MH4 go up the stairs for three floors.

    • PreyMantis

Dang… Now that Pokémon is on the way, expect to see another one of that.

      • 愛憎

        I better stay inside…
        And download it!

  • konsama

If only MH4 had come to west…

At least i’m getting ready for pokemon Y, but dammit nintendo, add the price of the game to eshop already, some people have other expenses when making a budget.

    • Chris Evan Jonance Ingeniero

just keep a budget of 40$ since a game in the eshop rarely goes up pas 39.99

  • http://www.staticshin.com/ Akshat Jiwan Sharma

I think legend of heroes did sell well if you add the sales of ps3 and vita versions of the game.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Monster hunter 4 and pokemon X/Y are going to have the top spot for weeks.

  • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

    The market is fickle man.

Is why Japan only has 8 million PS3′s.

I wonder where the 25 million who had PS2′s went. (Im pretty sure they all bought it as a cheap DVD player, but then again the PS3 tried that too)

  • Dylan Anantha

He has a point though, Sony memory cards are insanely overpriced in some parts of the world. I have 4 different memory cards I can use for my 3DS, but I would have to get an expensive Sony one for a Vita, which is a bit of a dealbreaker for me right now.

  • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Its mostly a jab about how these people think one single game will save the Vita.
They need to create a better value proposition for the system to entice people.

  • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Your mother called. She wants her alimony and the 30k you used for that prosaic liberal studies course you took in England. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vXpUcdqpss

  • TheAquacharger

That’s one of the things that’s stopping me. Before I buy a system I look for atleast 7 games I want on it. So far for the Vita every game I want on it I can get on the PS3 (and PC which I prefer to my PS3) or it’s not coming to the US. Yes I know I can import, but I don’t speak Japanese. Second is the overpriced memory cards. When I picked up a 32 GB class 10 micro SD card for my 3DS for $30 something’s wrong here.
