  • M&M Minis anyone?

    • lulz, i was thinking the same thing xD

Can’t wait for this game. At first, I wasn’t too impressed with the E3 2013 trailer, but after that new trailer from their Nintendo Direct a few weeks ago, it became a must buy for me. I wonder why they didn’t use that at E3, instead? It would have created more anticipation that way.

Possible that it wasn’t ready for showing at the time, but I totally agree with you, it went from a “Cool” to a “HOLY COW MUST BUY” after the Direct’s Trailer last month.
      Really made the game shine.

        That’s exactly how I felt!

I am PROFOUNDLY excited about this game. The Nintendo EAD team that makes these games has been absolutely on fire. Super Mario 3D Land did the impossible and removed all the extra gimmicks that defined Mario Galaxy (gravity, sphere levels, motion controls) but the resulting game was even BETTER. So even though past multiplayer Mario platformers have kind of been messy to play in a group and not as good as the single player games, I think this game is gonna get it right. Because these games get everything right.

Also: Cat toad (bottom left screenshot) is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.

Honestly, I enjoyed Super Mario Galaxy far more than 3D Land.

I think 3d world takes the good things from the past 3d mario games. The BIG and OPEN worlds from sunshine are back. An over world that has tons of secrets and is interactive, rather than being just a small planet sized mario head. People can now choose toad, luigi, AND peach while playing 4 player co-op. A crap ton of more power ups, with awesome new ideas being implemented. The gameplay feels more super mario 64/sunshine styled rather than feeling like its in 2.5d from 3d land. The enemies and bosses feel like they did from super mario 64 since they have a variety of animations and interactions with the area around them. Mario in HD. And it keeps getting better and better. I think they hitted the sweet spot with this one.

Better get your expectations in check. This game is gonna look a lot more like Mario 3D Land than you’re imagining. 3D Mario always undersells 2D Mario, and 3D Land was an attempt to bridge the gap between the two by taking the 2D format of linear obstacle courses to a flag pole and presenting it in 3D. This worked really well both critically and commercially. In a recent interview (Iwata Asks, maybe?) the team said they this game was also trying to take the best of both 2D and 3D Mario games.

My expectations? No, just the pure facts from the pictures provided above. Those levels look HUGE, and 3d land hasn’t really provided that kind of meaty content. While 2D marios sell more, the 3D ones rate better, they all have their strengths and weaknesses statisticly. I think you are the one who has high expectations for this to be allot like 3d land, in which it is not, regardless how look at it,this is being made on the wii u and its bringing the depth from the previous 3D mario games, It’s expanding where 3d land left off with its linearity, not making it similar. And it will continue to bring bigger ideas to the table. It absolutely boggles my mind how you cant see the improvements they’ve made, their trying to make a mario title with new ideas not cutting content out just for the pleasure of it being similar to one of its other titles on another system.
