From The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya To The Guided Fate Paradox

By Spencer . October 21, 2013 . 5:09pm

NIS America worked with Shakugan no Shana and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya artist Noizi Ito to create a spiritual successor to Z.H.P. Unlosing Ranger vs. Darkdeath Evilman. The Guided Fate Paradox puts you in the shoes of Renya who becomes a god after winning the lottery. He can change the fates of characters like Cinderella by diving into randomly generated dungeons and like Z.H.P. Renya can equip all kinds of different parts.

The Guided Fate Paradox comes out on October 25 in Europe and November 5 in North America.

Cant wait to play this, this week.
Sorry batman but i wanna guide peoples fates in an endless paradox!

  • Michael Connell

Sounds interesting, but lately I’ve learned to be a bit cautious about non Disgaea releases from NIS so I’ll wait to hear some reviews first. Hopefully this’ll be more Haruhi Season 1 and not Season 2

    • DesmaX

Same developers, no need to worry

      • Tohsaka

I’ll be keeping an eye on it but I won’t be picking it up either, considering its predecessor is one that I wasn’t too much of a fan of. I’ll probably look into the gameplay a bit more once it comes out but if it looks like it’s going to be another romp ZHP-style…and by that the bad points of the game…them’s the brakes.

        • DesmaX

Well, this won’t change your opinion on that

          • Tohsaka

Dunno about that. I held reservations on EO4 and gave it a chance and bit down on EOU afterwards. Things I’m on the fence on don’t necessarily mean that I won’t ever play them.

          • DesmaX

            Fair enough.

If you feel like ZHP “problems” could be fixed with a sequel, then maybe you could.

        • Brimfyre

          ZHP had bad points??

          • Tohsaka

Sleep mode issues top the list.

          • DesmaX

Well, reaching a “stair” in this one will give a “suspend” option (together with the yes/no) that will save your game and kick you to the main screen (Kinda like Xillia “Quick Save”).

            It’s something

    • Ladius

TGFP was developed by the Disgaea team, and it’s a spiritual sequel to ZHP, another roguelike by the same team who ended up being one of the best games in its genre during this generation.

If you like roguelikes, this is a quality game you will probably end up loving.

  • Cometsu

    I want this.
But I know there will be a Vita version. ZHP is best on a handheld because nobody wants to sit there frustrated after getting tossed while wearing a prinny hat.

  • fireemblembeast

    Damn, the title made me think there would be haruhi costumes >_>;

    • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

There might be. Did you play ZHP? There were loads of anime cameo costumes in there. Boogiepop, Kino, etc…they made it into the English version intact, too!

    • artemisthemp

Yes or maybe she was in the game

  • Ladius

Can’t wait to sink dozens of hours into another great roguelike game by NIS, I had a blast with ZHP and TGFP looks even better :)

  • Vince

I bet Asagi’s lurking in this one. Trying to acquire Godhood to change her fate from a measly cameo/side character to that of the much treasured, “Main Character.”

    • zferolie

I wouldn’t be surprised. However, there is like, no information on youtube for the skills and characters in this game… disapointing

    • DyLaN
Asagi is right there “Character” section of the page.

  • Hound

Though I’ve never had much interest in the themes of NIS games outside of Phantom Brave and Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, I keep finding myself thoroughly interested in the progress they’ve been making on the strategy (tactics) rpg and their more recent secret of mana style action rpg (with tower defense elements o.o).

The two types of rpgs are rather niche even now, but I always find myself fighting hand and foot over getting the latest NIS or Atlus rpg or well.. using my money for anything else.

I’m hoping Sega will eventually redouble their efforts on 3D tactics rpgs as well. I found Valkyria Chronicles and Resonance of Fate a surprising breath of fresh air and sincerely hope for more. Maybe now that they have Index Corporation, there’ll be something sincerely special in the future for RPG fans.

  • DyLaN
Just a heads up, more character profile is added into the TGFP main english site.
The prologue chapters are also up.

I am so hyped for this. The characters description ady gave me a smile and some chuckle.

  • Kelohmello

If you’re just going to slam them why bother reading? There’s more polite ways to do this sort of thing that don’t make you look like a dick.

  • Tohsaka

Did you really register an account just to say that?

Hope you’ve accomplished everything in your life from that. Must feel great. I’d equally like to see you do research and then create a website based on it while having to put up with the peanut gallery like you.

  • Pipe

It takes 10 seconds to create one so why not?

Getting the developer of a game wrong is a pretty big screw-up and it’s not the first time it happened, sometimes they even miss-spell the title of a game.

It is always great though to see objective criticism to get deleted while the error still remains in the article, that says a lot about this community.

  • Tohsaka

    You misspelled misspell.

Also, why are you still here? If you have such a problem, leave. You’re no censor here.

  • Pipe

    True I did.

You asked me a question so why are you surprised to get an answer? Also why would I leave? Is it forbidden to criticize mistakes here? Do I have to accept anything they throw out no matter how wrong it is to be allowed here? It seems this is what you are trying to tell me.

  • M’iau M’iaut

What they are saying is if an honest mistake was made by adding ‘America’ there are better ways to share the information with us. It is very possible NISA did have some involvement with Ito to get the cards, box and artwork being done as part of the special edition.

If they didn’t, you at least have my apologies for one particular word being out of place.

  • Pipe

The article states that NIS America created the game though, which is simply not true. Why can’t that be corrected?
