Hometown Story Gets Small Discount (13% Off) at Newegg

By Viet Do . October 24, 2013 . 11:00am

Tuesday’s release of Hometown Story is now on sale at NewEgg via a quick $5 promo code for $34.99, free ship and no sales tax in most states. The life-simulation game is getting rave reviews thus far.  Fans of Yasuhiro Wada’s Harvest Moon should check this game out, as this is his latest work.

On a weird note Hometown Story is flagged as a pre-order on NewEgg with a 10/31/13 release date, so keep that in mind if you plan to jump on the deal.

On the PC front of things, this Friday’s release of Batman: Arkham Origins is $37.50 for the Steam key, while the base game of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is still 25% off at $22.50. For more FF, Final Fantasy VII’s Steam key is on sale for $6.

Her portrait is a lot more … generous than her actual in-game model.

I see it, she has fuller… hair, right?

        Keen eyes, my friend.

  • Where exactly is Hometown Story getting “rave reviews”? I bought it for $40 thinking there was no way it would be anything short of awesome. Unfortunately, it is janky and way short of awesome. Feels like I just paid $40 for an iPhone game. The reviews I’ve seen have not been rave at all. Game Informer gave it a 6, and for once I agree with them.

PSA: Read up on this game before purchasing. I wanted it to be awesome and thought for sure it would be good at the very least. It is not good.

  • Why is my comment awaiting moderation? :( Someone might buy this game unawares if I can’t warn them that it’s not getting “rave reviews”.

    • Hmmm I did a quick Google when getting the post in on Tuesday and I guess the reviews are definitely more mixed now. D’oh?

      • Yeah, I thought this game was a sure thing! :( Depressing.

    • Not sure why the filter caught your comment, but it’s approved now!

      • I think Discus was being kinda weird yesterday or something!

I got the game myself on release. It’s good, but it does take time to pick up. There are also several questionable design choices.

If I had to liken it to any past Harvest Moons or Rune Factory games at this point, the SNES original HM and RF1. There’s a good game THERE, and it’s definitely very enjoyable if it’s the sort of thing you like, but it’s lacking polish outside of some of the most core mechanics. If the game manages to get sequels that just plain improve on the existing formula, like Rune Factory does, it has the potential to become something amazing.

But if the game interests you, I’d say go for it.

    • I agree it could definitely be made fantastic, but I just find the entire thing so janky and directionless. I was surprised to see you compare it to RF1. I played the heck out of RF1 and found it compelling and well-designed from the beginning. This one feels like an iPhone game.

      • Will Jay

RF1 I only compared it to because RF1 was also very unpolished and clearly an experiment, while there were sequels that refined and built the formula and made it something really amazing.

Of course, if there are no sequels or anything, it won’t even have the chance for that.

        • Yeah.

To me, this doesn’t even feel unpolished so much as incomplete and (again) janky and poorly designed. Great concept, but the execution is not what we’d expect from these folk.

    • 3PointDecoupage

Can you design tbe town like in Harvest Moon a new beginning?

  • eli-boo’s waifu

    I just dislike the art style so much. It’s just not for me I guess. ^^;

    • If only it were the art style that were the games main problems!
