Resident Evil: Revelations and Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D are both on sale on the Nintendo eShop for 3DS in North America for the low price of $10 each, as part of a Halloween sale.

Ordinarily, both games cost $20 each. The discount sale will last until October 31st.

I got really lucky with Revelations on 3DS and snagged it for $5 at Best Buy a couple months ago.

I’d pick up Mercenaries if my backlog could handle it. Sadly, it cannot lol.

  • How is Revelations?

    • If you’re expecting it to be as grand in scope as RE4 or RE5, don’t. It very obviously wasn’t developed on the same budget, being a portable title.

That said, in terms of feel and atmosphere, it’s right in between both those games. It has some of the “Japanesey-ness” of RE4 in that it has a couple of quirky characters and lots of corny dialogue and “Hollywood” moments. However, it’s also got elements of RE5, in that it’s very much a story about the BSAA and their war on bioterrorism, with Jill and Chris playing very important roles.

Basically, what it lacks in terms of a huge multi-million dollar budget, it makes up for with having multiple characters, which it uses to keep things interesting. Oh, and it has the best controls in the series to date. You can strafe while shooting, but it isn’t a pure action game like RE6.

      • It’s developed by the RE5 team, so I’d say that’s the closest point of reference.

        • Well, by a portion of the RE5 team. RE5 had Takeuchi at the helm, and he was a director with a very strong vision. Revelations doesn’t quite have that going for it.

    • Not bad. If you go in with managed expectations it’s a pretty decent RE spinoff. At this price point it’s certainly hard not to recommend.

I actually found it pretty fun on the 3DS. I did use a Circle Pad Pro, however, and it made the controls feel very natural. It reminds me a bit of the older RE games, which is definitely a good thing. I don’t like the direction the series has gone recently. I’d rather RE stick with the survival horror style than the 3rd person shooter style, and this is more of the former for the better.

  • Y NO EUROPE? :(

Capcom has been doing really good discount :)

    • Archeeer

      They need the money.

  • Digital Mercenaries for $10 is tempting; it’s the price and format the game should’ve had all along. Not sure I have enough left in my FE/SMT $30 after getting Attack of the Friday Monsters and Kokuga though… never mind space on my SD card.

This is honestly a huge steal. Revelations was great in my opinion. It really showed me when I first got my 3DS how capable the system really is. I still need to get my hands on Mercenaries though…

  • JustThisOne

I think I’ve been waiting for this Mercenaries deal. *__*

  • Sardorim

    Revelations… My Jill fix.

I would have actually liked RE6 if it had 110% Jill in it.

  • InfectedAI

Revelations for 10 dollars is an amazing deal for any 3DS owner. I’m trying to figure out if Mercenaries is worth getting if you already own Revelations. Does anyone know if it has a decent online community?

  • RazeXI

that 3D mercenaries deal is quite tempting..can you play as hunk or Barry?

    • JustThisOne

You can play as Barry. *__*

      • I’ve always found this fixation you have with him supremely creepy.

        • JustThisOne

W-what?! Why? To be honest, I just found him to be the funniest character out of entire cast. And now it’s just my own personal running joke that he’s the coolest guy ever. :V

EDIT: I mean, c’mon! He’s one of the most out of place characters there! Everyone else is either a bad ass, or Rebecca!

          • Yes, yes. Go right ahead with your justification.

(But yeah, Barry is pretty out of place. Although, I guess Keith and Quint from Revelations give him a run for his money.)

          • JustThisOne

This feels like an intervention. :<

EDIT: Actually! Yeah! I totally thought Keith and Quint were a strange addition. I guess they felt like they needed something like comedy relief because this game was a lot more slow paced than the others.

Don’t worry JustThisOne many people like Barry.

    • InfectedAI

      Yes to both.

Europe…what about Europe..capcom? Btw Revelations was awesome on the 3DS. I played it through with standard control scheme and now I’m running around using Gyro controls which is quite cool.

Seriously for $10 there is no question, if you like RE at all get this game you won’t be disappointed. And play with headphones.

    • Archeeer

Gyro aim is the best one for Revelations. Beats even the CPP.
