Get Intimate With Kissing RPG Exstetra’s Gameplay

By Eugene . November 4, 2013 . 1:25pm

Those waiting for a little bit more information on how kissing RPG Exstetra’s battle system will work—what with its enchanted skill level up system and all—can take a gander at the above video to see some of it in action. What’s immediately obvious is that the game is a turn-based strategy during battles, and those battles are usually randomly encountered.

Astute eyes will also note that while the enemy has three rows to place themselves in (A hint to overly large monsters perhaps?) Ryoma’s party only gets two. They also show how some skills will knock back and adjust where characters (and presumably foes as well) are on the map, though whether this means you could smash multiple foes into each other ala Radiant Historia isn’t revealed.

Moved characters might no longer have access to certain skills and abilities which are dependent on the rows they’re in. It also looks like you can speed up combat (Oh my God yes!)

We also see Ryoma sucking in some EXS powers, but the question remains whether this is limited to having Ryoma land the killing blow or if anyone can do so. I hope not! Having one character land killing blows is annoying as all as it is, and could be doubly so since EXS are tied to powers for other characters.

Exstetra will be out November 7th  on Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita.

Oh man, can’t wait. Don’t care about Famitsu’s scores. This, Oneechanbara, and Akiba’s Trip 2 in the same week?? Somebody help me!

    • Hraesvelgr

Famitsu scores aren’t a great way of judging a game’s quality anyway, especially these days. They give out perfect scores way too easily these days, even to games like the recent JoJo’s fighting game, FFXIII-2, and Skyrim.

    • We won’t be seeing you for a while. lol

  • This game is looking gorgeous, I cannot wait to try it out. The row based combat system sounds fun and I hope it adds some layers to the possible strategies that turn-based games offer.

  • Sergio Macellaro

Tony Taka artwork for itself make it worth.
I don’t like ramdom battles and like very much turn based battles, in overall looks good.
I already want play it on english.
    Nisa/Atlus/Xseed/Aksys MAKE IT HAPPENS.

    • Renaldi Saputra

XSeed had refused it, we only hope for NISA

  • The battle system and animations look really good. Not to mention the character design as well. REALLY hoping this game does well enough to get localized because it looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun =^_^=

  • Arcana Wiz

This game looks interesting…… if gets localized i would buy.

    • TheExile285

      Same. I don’t I’ll import it though :/

Akiba Strip 2 is another story though….

    • Hraesvelgr

I don’t think its localization chances are that high. Maybe NIS or Aksys could grab it, but XSEED said it was unlikely that they’d do it (they have enough on their plate anyway), so I wouldn’t expect too much.

    • Ric Vazquez

      Yeah, this and Akiba’s Trip

  • LazuliteLiamz

Are some of the initial battles speeded up as well? If not, I feel that it could use a little more flashier animation. Well, doesn’t really matter, most players will most likely skip the animations after a while anyway xD

So looking forward to this, turn-based battle where I could kiss tsundere-chan to make her stronger <3

  • Nitraion

    This remind me of suikoden…
    with persona style

  • Stranger On The Road

Just wondering, but have they shown the 3DS graphics yet? I feels as if they’ve only shown the Vita’s graphics thus far.

Any way, I would love to play this game, I hope that it gets localized as my Japanese reading skills are very far from allowing me to play this game :-(

    • Hraesvelgr

Didn’t they show screenshots that had 3DS buttons in them before?

      • Stranger On The Road

What is the point of asking someone who is asking!

    • Ric Vazquez

      Same here

  • Ganali Castillo

    Here’s hoping it get localized.

  • leingod

The battle animations and camera don’t look very fluid IMO. Other than that, looks great. Love some traditional turn-based combat.
