Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate Gets Tecmo Bowl Costumes

By Ishaan . November 5, 2013 . 2:00pm

Team Ninja’s free to play version of Dead or Alive, titled Dead or Alive 5: Core Fighters, has been downloaded over 500,000 times. In celebration, the studio is offering Tecmo Bowl costumes for a bunch of the game’s characters.

Tecmo Bowl uniforms for Bass, Bayman, Leon, Rachel, Tina and Zack are available for $1.99 each for Core Fighters as well as Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate. In Core Fighters on PS3, you can also buy the character and costume together as a set for $4.99 a piece, which is 15% less than the cost of purchasing both separately.

Also as part of the festivities, Leon and Rachel will be usable free of charge in Core Fighters until November 25th.

Finally, if you own the full version of Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate, you’ll get Tecmo Bowl Throwback with the purchase of any six Tecmo Bowl costumes or the Champion set DLC ($16.99) for the game.

  • Vesperion

The total price of all the dlc is rather amazing.

    • Linhua

.-. I was planning to add this up myself one day… but you may as well tell me now..

      • Vesperion

I remember the vanilla version’s total was a bit over $80, but ultimate added a few as in game content and sold a compete pack of the older costumes for $40, The school girl, halloween, the two magazine costumes, and finally the Tecmo bowl gear has come out since then……I’ll let you add that up

  • DanteMasamune

Jesus Christ!!! How many costumes and DLC costumes does this game have?

    • doubleO7

Lets just say… a lot. And there’s still more to come.

    • Lynx

Still less than Im@s, more than an average fighter.

      • DanteMasamune

        What is “lm@s”?

        • Lynx

Idolm@ster, rhythm music game that earned Namco Bandai the nickname Scamdai because of the sheer amount of DLC.

          • DanteMasamune

            Oh Idolm@aster!

Oh I never heard about the DLC situation with that game (granted I never cared about that game).
Well look on the bright side…..AT LEAST ITS NO DISC LOCKED CONTENT.

  • Gojira Twit

I gotta say, compared to most of the halloween outfits, these look kind of bad.

  • Dagobert

WIth the amount of costume DLC this game has, and it seems the main focus of DOA 5 is costumes only, I’ve actually lost interest in the game. I’ve enjoyed the past DOA games but not this one.

    • DaiRaiOh

A game only having very optional costume DLC in a game that has a ton of costumes is not a problem. Not getting some outfits doesn’t make the game any less fun or good, which is why the DLC isn’t a bad thing. It’s there for the people who want it, and at least any gameplay things, people get for free as shown with the Halloween stage

      • Vesperion

Yeah DLC is optional, but i get what he’s saying. The main focus is purely costumes, but other things could be done like add on story chapters, more modes, songs? i dunno use your imagination.

Most of the content in Ultimate is from Plus anyway

        • EinMugenTenshin

To be fair, they’ve added a lot of other things too. Who knows, maybe we get a new stage with this, as there seem to have been a trend before.

-Before the bikini DLCs we got the beach stage.
-Before the Halloween DLCs we got the Lorelei spooked up stage.

Could always hope for a sports arena next.

          • Vesperion

What else is exclusive to Ultimate besides the 5 characters, 2 (new) stages and the music selection?

          • EinMugenTenshin

Oh, you edited your original comment I see.

Well, you have the team battle mode, the improved statistics, ranked battle system with bounties and win streaks bonuses, the character scores, reduced lagg in general, ranked tag battle with the possibility for 4 players at site, survival and solo player content has been changed with fruits for high scores and so on, I think it is 5 new stages (counting Lorelei), many new taunts, new intros and outros, new visuals in hairdesign etc, improved balancing and mechanics, improved lobbies, core fighters has added a deep online pool for shorter queues, queueing in ranked from training mode,

and this is the things I can think of in the hurry.

          • Vesperion

Dunno what you mean, but the comment is still the same as before. While i can appreciate the better online (it’s still wonky when i search for games) i wish team ninja did something different with your teammates when doing tag mode. Like maybe you can ready up with you and a friend before hand, but it’s no big deal. Whenever i buy a fighting game update i don’t expect a crazy amount of features anyway. i just love my fighters.

The stages thing was sarcasm since 3 of them were from DOA3…….and with the 3 Ninja Gaiden levels it’s 3 new stages, or 6 altogether

          • EinMugenTenshin

Kk, must have read it wrong about comparing it to DoA5+.

Aye, personally I’d want to see the option of teaming up with people as 1 person select in ranked tag. People who are ready and able, when you are, are a rarity.

    • Shippoyasha

Believe it or not, this game had a ton of gameplay adjustments and it is a joy to play. They managed to balance the characters fairly well and there are all the right features this series needs. Fanservice aside, this may be the most solid DOA game yet. You’d be surprised.

    • Jordan Coleman

I don’t know. This is easily the best playing DoA.

But hey Temco gotta eat and this stuff sells. Costumes sell in general.

It sadly may seem to be the “face” of the series, but there is still a really good game underneath.

      • Dagobert

I’m not saying the gameplay is bad or anything. So I got the game when it came out, and obviously all fighting games now need to come out with new versions instead of a patch or having unlockables like the past. Anyways, so now when I consider playing it again, I come across all these costume DLC crap that it makes the main focus of the game seem like it’s costumes only which makes me loose interest in the game.

        • Shippoyasha

I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s just pure fanservice and just a way for them to get money. It has no real relevance to the core content, which is pretty substantial from what they added on Ultimate.

  • Repede91

I like all of these quite a bit! I had purchased every bit of DOA5 DLC up till the Halloween outfits, which I found most of them to be kinda gross; but I will return to my old habits with this set. I especially like the Tennis and Football costumes.

    • ALfromHELLSING

Halloween set of costumes was my favorite costumes set so far, loved almost every of those. Each to his own I guess.

I’m scared to calculate how much I’ve spent on all these DOA DLCs. DOA might actually be my most expensive game ever. Three versions, Collector’s Editions and DLC.

      • Repede91

I’m right there with you. I’ve easily spent $250 on DOA5 across all versions; but in pales in comparison to my Rockband which is somewhere north of $600…

  • ALfromHELLSING

Nothing for Ryu Hayabusa, Ayane and Hayate. How come TeamNINJA? At least one of my mains – Christie got costume with underboob, which is basically a recolor of one of Hitomi’s bikini DLC’s. Better than nothing.

The biggest bummer bout all these after DOA5 DLCs is that they don’t work with DOA5+. It sucks that TeamNINJA has forgotten bout portable DOA completely. I keep bugging them on twitter, but it’s very unlikely they will add those to DOA5+. Which is sad.

    • doubleO7

Unfortunately thats not gonna happen. DOA5+ is basically a straight port of vanilla DOA5. Its completely incompatible with any of the newly created content for DOA5 Ultimate. At most, we could maybe expect 5U to also get a Vita port eventually.

      • ALfromHELLSING

Yeah, I know that but I’m pretty sure they could do something bout the costumes. It’s not like they have to change they entire game for that.

  • RegReach

i just wand jann lee orginal outfit from doa 1 please

  • EinMugenTenshin

For some strange reason I want to buy the Rig Soccer Costume… So much troll potential!

  • Servant BerserCAR

One day I’m gonna found myself fasting because my money are gone to Kokoro’s Holiday Pack or Mila’s 3rd School Uniform or such… which I don’t mind. ( ̄Д ̄)

  • zferolie

I’m still upset I need to buy DOA5+ for all this… I enjoyed DoA5, got the special edition and everything…

Anyword onb a PS4 version of this? I mean, if this is coming for PS4, then I will buy that one. If not, I’ll buy the PS3 one. I will be pissed if once I buy the PS3 one they release a PS4 one.

  • Ryuukishi

Hmm… I already bought the full Sports Gear Set yesterday before hearing about this offer, how do I go about getting my free copy of Tecmo Bowl?

  • Sergio Briceño

Am I weird cuz I’d much rather see the girls on the football uniforms?

  • Göran Isacson

Ha ha at first I thought “man these football outfits for the girls are actually kind of modest” and then I get to Christie and Tina. Oh Tina. Protecting your shoulders and shoulders alone (or wait, did she have kneepads? I think she had kneepads) won’t do you any good. It’s like the focus here isn’t on protection at all ! :)

On the whole though, this batch felt a bit low effort. I was much more fond of the Halloween outfits, they had more variety to them. Really dug Milas goalie-outfit though.
