PlayStation Vita 3.00 Firmware Update Adds PlayStation 4 Connectivity

By Ishaan . November 5, 2013 . 12:00pm

Sony are releasing a 3.00 firmware update for the PlayStation Vita to prepare the device for its companion role to the upcoming PlayStation 4. The update will introduce a new application called PS4 Link, which will allow the two consoles to connect for Remote Play and second screen functionality.

Also included in the 3.00 update are other adjustments, such as the addition of the Parental Controls application to the home screen, an adjusted layout for Friends, the ability to use Wi-Fi to connect your PS3 and Vita to transfer data, and more.

You can read about the update in greater detail on the PlayStation Blog.

Those are some neat features, thanks Sony!

The question is will PS4 remote play actually work? PS3 remote play is a joke. Virtually nothing works with it by design, even games that could put up with the ever present lag. I have my PS3 setup in the ‘ideal conditions’ with it wired into Ethernet and the Vita on the network and it still is like watching a slideshow, if I drop the quality to the lowest setting it can sort of stream videos but the compression artifact reminds me of old Real Player over dial-up.

Most of the other updates are not huge for me though they apparently fixed the “Preparing to download” bug which is nice.

Them fixing the “Preparing to download” bug is the only reason I care about this update. That shit was frustrating.

With a more capable hardware, they may actually pull it off.

There’s been some reviews where people tried it out first-hand, it apparently works really really well, nothing like the PS3 one.

Cool, as long as these are in the reviewers own lab, company sponsored setups are always questionable. They did purchase Gakai and said they integrated the technology into the PS4. I tried a demo once over Gakai before they were purchased and it did work quite well. If it is that good I would be pleased. Hopefully Sony pushes for most games to support it.

Just downloaded it just an hour ago before seeing this~

Panoramic Camera looks awesome. But it’d be nice if the same could be done with recorded videos.

Who exactly are you in terms of industry, and why do you feel that Sony stole your idea?

Not trying to be insulting, just curious.
