Bravely Default is headed to Europe on December 6th and to North America on February 7th, and this morning Nintendo of Europe released a demo for the game via the Nintendo eShop.

The demo is available for download now in PAL territories. Nintendo have not announced when it will be made available in the U.S.

I get the feeling that soon I’ll need to buy a EU 3DS along with a JP 3DS…

    • No kidding. I want that football/soccer game, too, and I doubt they’ll release that in the US (despite it being in English! jeeeeez)

Is there a demo in the Japanese eShop?

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Ishaan, they didn’t happen to announce a demo release for JPN eShop did they? Or have they done so already?

    • No, nothing about an eShop demo for Japan yet, I’m afraid.

  • Randgriz

Just played a little and man, its fanastic – made the bad choice of playing on hard but the system is pretty in-depth right off the bat. Also job change is so delicious – such a breath of fresh air. (the opening cutscene was a little confusing as i didnt know who was talking but that can remedied with more play) Classic in the making guys

  • AAAAAAAAAAANNND downloading.

  • Yes, I’m coming for you!!

    Damn everything to hell!

  • Oh well. Guess I’ll just wait for the full game anyway, even if the demo does come out in the US. How would you like that, Nintendo, huh? Oh, you don’t care.

I want that darn football/soccer management game.

Just played and its amazing, no wait, not amazing, freaking awesome is more like it, just everything about it, also gave me that FFIX vibe which is my fave game in the FF series along with FF6.

  • Ric Vazquez

Yes, a demo is finally out! *reads the demo is for Europe, nerdrages over the entire house*

I’ve tried some of it, and normal mode is rather brutal, and I’ve played ffv. The music is really great, and it also puts up a real challenge. There wasn’t any voice acting in it, so i can’t put my thoughts on those.

Can’t wait for this to come out in North America. The battle system is the deal breaker for me, since I’m really on the fence for this one. Can’t wait to try it out and finally decide.

    • Makar85

The battle system is actually really great , it has all the characteristics of a traditional jrpg and the bravely/default thing adds a new layer of strategy. For example i’v started putting my white mage in default until i get 2-3 brave points , the damage she can do is negligible at this level, but when hp the rest of my team starts getting low i can heal everyone in one turn by using the brave points.

      • Yvonne Tsang

Yeah, I’ll definitely try it out. It did seem like it could help strategize, but I was worried about limitations (something about not being able to act if you use up your points or something?). I’m not a fan of downtime when battling, so I hope it doesn’t slow it down.

How’s the speed up option by the way? The animations themselves look rather clunky, even after being sped up in trailers.

        • Makar85

The character won’t be able to act if he/she goes below zero with the brave points and will gain 1 point each turn until it gets to 0 and can act again. You can “spend” brave points even if you don’t actually have them , so it’s a bit of a gamble. If you are pretty sure you’re going to kill your enemy during a turn you can go all out and go under with the brave points as long as you know that you’ll be exposed to enemy attacks if you don’t end the fight. The good thing about default mode is that you take a defensive stance and take very little damage so i always start with a round of default just to have that extra brave point. Just know that there are many things that you can do without spending brave points: normal attacks, normal magical attacks, and other abilities. Another exciting thing is that enemies can use the brave/default system as well, I fought a turtle monster who would default for 2 turns and then attack 3 times in one turn… that was a good fight.
I don’t really know what you mean by speed option, but i think some features have been disabled in the demo. I am loving the animations and the art stile so far, it’s a real looker imo.

          • Yvonne Tsang

Thanks for sharing. Perhaps I’m not being creative in my thinking about the battle system.

I downloaded the demo last night. I was hoping this game would be good but… IT’S AWESOME!!!! I love the graphics, and the combat system is so rewarding. The fact that you can turn the encounter rate up and down is great . When i got to the first cave i had it at +50%, lots of random encounters allowed me to level up enough to get to the end of the mission, when i was done i turned it to 0% and was able to get to the town without having to face any unwanted battles! So refreshing. I love this demo and i love the fact that it will reward you with in game items once you get the whole thing. I can’t wait for the 6th of december.
