Well, Square Enix Already Gave Away A Million Copies Of Dragon Quest

By Spencer . November 28, 2013 . 11:55pm

image All one million free copies of Dragon Quest for iOS and Android are gone… after about two days. Square Enix’s goal is to get smartphone gamers into the Dragon Quest as a whole since eight games in the series are coming over, so they changed the promotion.

Dragon Quest is now free until December 10. If a million people downloaded it already how many more millions do you think will end up replaying Erdrick’s adventure?

I wonder how many of those will end up as “got the game; will never play it” scenarios :C

  • Audie Bakerson

    It took two days?

    Is DQ’s Japanese popularity slipping?

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Yeah lol. This actually is not really a big thing considering how well DQ sells on handheld there.O_o”

Then again, just think about how many times the original Dragon Quest has been released, especially over in Japan. By this point, it’s possible that a chunk of the players that are in the group that still pick up the new releases on Day 1 have played it time and time again and didn’t have a reason to pick it up again.

The mobage crowd is a diferent group, not exactly what you would consider a ”gamer”.
Most don’t use any dedicated gaming devices at all.

    • Honestly though, we’ve all played the first DQ a million times and mostly everyone has it in some form. Just the fact that a million people are willing to play the original one again in this day is impressive enough.

  • Lionxie

How would i download this? Its not on the Play store?

    • John Diamond

japanese only judging by the previous article. The text was in japanese and the prices were in yen

    • BleuVII

I thought the same thing. It’ll be here eventually, I guess.

    • KiTA

It is in the Japanese play store. But you cannot install it nor does it appear in search results. If you try, it says American and European devices aren’t allowed. However, since it’s a free app (since the “app” in the store is just a storefront for SE’s store) you can use various tricks to download the APK and sideload it.

  • John Diamond

Look at all the games i just can’t play :D

  • Ferchenko

    just like that

  • Lilith

I own an Android tablet but I want an iPad mini because somehow I think they’ll be better on iOS. Naturally, I’m really hoping these are released. And that IV-VI are the DS versions. :-)

  • KiTA

    Erdrick? Nay. ROTO.

  • As much as I dislike playing games on my junky phone, I’m desperate enough that I would definitely buy this for $3. Maybe even $7. But not $9. Well maybe. I am really very desperate.
