PlayStation Plus 1 Year Membership for $30 (Update: Cyber Monday Deal)

By Viet Do . November 29, 2013 . 1:16am

ps-plusmembershipWell, no better time than now to stock up on PS Plus Membership. The membership usually cost $50 and rarely goes on discount – in fact, we’ve spotted only 3 deals in the past half-year or so.

Update: Black Friday came and went and the various $30 deals on PS Plus 1 Year membership has expired, but we just spotted an unexpected one today from Dell Home for $30 with free shipping. If you missed out on the Black Friday pricing, here’s a 2nd chance with Cyber Monday.

Update #3: Was sold out at Dell but now available and in stock again. Funky.

GameStop has PlayStation Plus 1 Year Membership for only $30 – no shipping charge here, of course. US residents only. Being a digital product, we think quantity will be fairly large, but also being Black Friday, you never know how fast a deal will run out.

P.S. NewEgg had a similar deal, but it was a physical prepaid card that quickly went out of stock. Previously this deal was briefly available on NewEgg, Best Buy, Amazon, and finally Walmart. Now at Dell.com

    • Shane Guidaboni

Where? I only see one year for $50 on Amazon.

      • http://takopako.tumblr.com takopako

        the deal was on amazon a couple of days ago. ;n;

        • Byron Kerrison II

          A.K.A Black Friday :(

  • Bobby Jennings

To be short $5 is crazy. Looks like I’m going to Gamestop tomorrow.

    • dawnbomb

      tomorrow is to late

    • http://s1.zetaboards.com/Espada_of_Alexandria/index/ konpon568

Tomorrow is too late, like Dawnbomb said. You have until the stores close today.

      • Bobby Jennings

Well when I said this it was still yesterday. Not only that but Gamestop’s black friday deals go on until December 3rd.

  • Punny Fuzz

Man, I hope Canada will get something similar soon…

Amazon also has it for 30 bucks.

Walmart, BestBuy, Frys and even the PS Store itself have the 1 year membership on sale.

  • 3PointDecoupage

I had PS plus for 3 months, and only used it to play an hour of Uncharted…

  • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

I’ve never felt so blueballed in my life as when I went online to buy this and got told in all stores that digital content is only available for purchase for people who live in America~.

    • Tiduas

That’s how we’re usually treated when not living in America, we miss out on most contests, deals and all the fun stuff :(

      • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

I found a workaround though. In Gamestop you can gift card yourself and then use the code of that gift card to buy digital content~.

    • Wesley Kenneth Houpt Mattingly

Black Firday and Cyber Monday are a very American tradition, not outside the US.

  • http://so-very.me/ Jenny

I got mine this morning :P

  • Aoshi00

I just bought 2 Plus from BestBuy too.. and to think I stocked up another one earlier in the year for $40, should’ve waited *.*; (that makes me have 4 more yrs of Plus & like 6yrs of Live Gold lol)… lots of things are on unbelievable fire sale this Thanksgiving.. for those who don’t need a card, Amazon has the digital code for $30 as well, plus $5 Amz Instant credit to rent movies and such.

    • Testsubject909

But it’s only available for people in the US.

They won’t send the code to people outside the US. So you can’t order it.

      • Aoshi00

yeah, unfortunately sales related to games on Amazon only ship domestically same goes for Amz Jpn. But for the people in the US, you get another $5 to spend on renting movies, so it’s like $25. I got 2 cards from BB.

          See my response to Test.

          • Testsubject909

I have seen some forums where people have stated that the codes they purchased don’t work in Canada.

            Theoretical US locked PSN codes?

          • PoweredByHentai

Nah, just that the PSN is getting hammered. Some servers have heavier loads than others.

What seems to be the common bottleneck with the PSN is the verification server/system. It looks like it has to check against a database for valid codes and that database might be getting hammered.

Relational databases like SQL Server, MySQL, and Oracle SQL typically have problems handling more than 500K transactions per second.

            http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlcat/archive/2013/09/10/diagnosing-transaction-log-performance-issues-and-limits-of-the-log-manager.aspx

Now the transaction limits are limited by how fast the disk I/O is. Setting up a system where you have “live data” running on racks of enterprise-grade SSDs is prohibitively expensive.

          • Aoshi00

yeah, I supposed it’s like how I could redeem Club Nintendo rewards w/ a Jpn address, digital is ok, but for shipping stuff, would need an agent like tenso.

      • PoweredByHentai

There are ways around it. Buy Amazon gift cards with your regular billing address (if you live outside of the country). Then make another Amazon account that has a random US address, like over in the state of Oregon. Then use those Amazon gift cards that you purchased to pay for the PS+ membership cards.

It’s from an artbook/sketchbook doujinshi by one of the Infinite Stratos staff:

I have a lot more of those posted on the Open Thread section.

  • Hound

Bought it immediately upon seeing the news..

  • Byron Kerrison II

I saw somewhere it was limited to two per customers. Understandable but I’m trying to order the code off Gamestop’s website but can’t increase the quantity. Can I only buy one code per checkout?

  • z_merquise

Better if I ask this here.

Just wanted to verify, if ever I register for another year in PS+ even if my current subscription isn’t expired, it won’t overwrite my existing days. Is that right?

Also, is the $30 sale for 1 year PS+ also available in PSN?

    • Testsubject909

      States that it stacks.

So the odds are that it’ll just tag from the end of your current subscription and continue on for another year or two pending if you purchase one or two.

It doesn’t over-write basically. It just extends.

      • doubleO7

Thats correct, it just adds on. So for example is you had still 2 months left and you bought 1 year, your subscription now lasts for 14 months.

  • doubleO7

Picked one up for $30 at Walmart list night, almost bought 2 but didn’t want to blow $60 on just PS+.

    • Testsubject909

The alternative would’ve been to think of it as 10$ more to double your PS+.

  • urbanscholar

2 years of PSN + for $60. *Does happy dance*

    • Maxwell3000

      SAME!

    • Wesley Kenneth Houpt Mattingly

      PS+ Expires Jan 05, 2017 :3

  • PoweredByHentai

One of the questions that I haven’t seen answered is whether Amazon will actually let us purchase more than 2 PS+ codes. GameStop didn’t mention that limit at all and they are currently getting hammered. Then again, Amazon explicitly mentioned the limit and are still getting hammered.

    • SerendipityX

Really? The gamestop I went to hand tons of PS PLUS just kinda sitting there. I was one of the only ones buying the cards. I only bought two b/c I didn’t really need that much.

      • PoweredByHentai

I’m speaking of GameStop’s online store.

  • easter

Bought one for my Canadian account. Now if only I could login to PSN… Sigh.

    • TheExile285

      whats the issue?

  • http://vindictushots.tumblr.com/ Okuni-chan

I got mine! So happy with it. The deals! The deaals! Now If I can find a good Bundle of Vita I will be all set (^.^ / )

  • http://radiantloki.blogspot.com/ Mark Dinh

Does this work for Canadian PSN accounts? :/

  • LustEnvy

I was able to buy two of them just now off the Dell website. I assume the deal is back up?

  • ギャビン

Got mine for $27 at frys. Only bad thing is make sure you come with a bunch of people, limited 1 per person.

    • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 禍津水木

Hmm not worth it cause I bought two on Amazon for $2 more
