Ultra Street Fighter IV Planned For June 2014 Release

By Ishaan . December 5, 2013 . 10:43am

Ultra Street Fighter IV will be released in early June 2014, Capcom have announced.

The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game will be released first as a digital upgrade, available for $14.99 (€14.99 in Europe)  each. Then, in August, the digital upgrade will hit PC for the same price.

Also in August, Capcom will release full digital and retail versions of Ultra Street Fighter IV, for players that don’t own any of the existing Super Street Fighter IV series. The full version will cost $39.99 (€39.99) on Xbox 360 and PS3, while PC owners will be able to grab it for $29.99 (€29.99), including all previously-released costumes.

Capcom add that they apologize for the month-long delay that PC players will have to suffer, explaining that, while they wanted to pursue a simultaneous release across all platforms, they needed to focus on getting the console versions out quickly enough to give tournament players enough time to practice for the Evolution 2014 tournament.

Ultra Street Fighter IV will include five new characters, four of which have been announced thus far. These are: Poison, Rolento, Elena and Hugo. The game will also feature new mechanics such as Red Focus Attacks that allow you to absorb multiple hits, delayed wakeups after taking a fall, and the ability to select both Ultras for your character, but with lower damage. Finally, every character in the game is being rebalanced as well, and Capcom intend to continue to update the game post-launch.

I wish they would just hurry up and announce the the 5th character…and they better not say Retsu. Because that would be anti-climactic.

    • CptPokerface

They said that the character has never been seen before in the street fighter series, but is heavily tied to it’s story.

Seeing as how Gouken is already in the game, I literally have no idea who it could be. Retsu while not playable was in the first game so it may not be him.

      • Freakmasta

I wouldn’t mind Cobra, that black fighter that was tossed early in the SF4 development process. Just give him a new outfit (since Ken took his as an alt.)

        • Göran Isacson

Oooh, this is the first time I hear about this guy. Have they said why they threw him out (didn’t have any good ideas for a move-set, not enough room/money in the budget, etc?)

        Sheng Long?

        • CptPokerface

Sheng Long was a incorrect translation of “Shoryuken”. Ryu’s quote was supposed to be ” You must defeat my dragon punch/shoryuken to stand a chance” but somehow the chinese translation- sheng long- came out instead.

Although it would be interesting if they.decided to make an actual “Sheng Long” as a character.

          • Yaymore

They already did, Gouken is “Sheng Long”, beeing Ryu’s master and his appearance is based on the famous screenshot. And one of his unlockable tittles in SSF4 is literally “AKA Sheng Long”.

I don’t play SF often but even I am highly curious on who it will be.

  • Monterossa

Wow…. Capcom expects us to play SF4 in mid 2014?, on the consoles that will be outdated at that moment?

    • Zero_Destiny

*sigh* Come on, man. We’ve given ya’ a lot of chances. Between your typical anti-Nourma rants, your continuous disregard for everyone else in the community, and your company bashing, we really tried.

But screw it. This is your final warning. Next time it’s another ban.

    • NaelAM

The competitive players – the core fanbase for this game – will play this on old systems. They had tournaments for older games on Dreamcasts and PlayStation 2s for years after the 360/PS3/Wii were out – the Evolution tournament didn’t become an all-PS3 event until 2011.

  • TheHolypopeofgaming

bummer, august is too long to wait.

  • leingod

Damn, I was expecting to play this during the summer. Early 2014 is summer where I live, BTW :P

Also, I’d totally dig this on the PSV… hope Mr. Ono considers it :(

I really wonder when will Capcom give some of this attention to Marvel VS Capcom 3. The game desperately needs patching, re-balancing and new characters. It has been over 2 years now since UMVC3 and I wonder when Super Ultra Mega Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3 is gonna come out.

    • TheBlackRabbit

      they need da money :D

    • CptPokerface

They would need to get a whole bunch of licenses from Marvel before its even a consideration. Long story short, real slim chance of it happening.

      • H.A.MK

Thank you for clearing the license thing. But what about patching things in UMVC3? So many glitches, unbalanced hitboxes, weird bugs and cheap unbalanced characters. I mean, SF4 had so many patches and it was released from the beginning of PS3 so why not patch the game which is one of the most anticipated games in any tournament since its release

        • CptPokerface

Even though marvel 3 is wildly popular in the tournament scene, the game itself didn’t sell exceptionally well. Even if they could its almost certain that it wouldn’t be worth the cost. Not to mention the team that worked on marvel 3 and ultimate all split into other projects and games. And with marvel keeping a tight grip on its licenses. .yeah sadly the chance of the game being worked on again is really low.

  • Shindoi Hayato

Not a huge fan of the IV series… but it’s not absolutely horrible. I wish Capcom would do away with come-back methods, be it Ultra or X-factors.

  • Ronldbx6

They are trying to hard to keep this game relevant. June 2014, really?

  • Chee Yang

I don’t want to do the digital upgrade because I’ve already done that with Super to AE. I already purchased 1/3 of the costume packs since vanilla, and don’t want to spend more to get all of it. August is a long wait to get the full retail version though.

Numbers, It’s not about the Nintendo brand, there’s a ton of 3DS consoles out there so they won’t be afraid to invest on it, but there are a lot fewer WiiU consoles, so it’d be a risk to give money for a port on that device.
