Well, maybe they do, and maybe they don’t. But the latest promotional trailer for Arc System Works’ Getsuei Academy Kou for Sony’s PlayStation Vita sure seems to suggest it. It’s the video game adaptation of a light novel by Tomokazu Sugita, known for voice acting BlazBlue’s Ragna the Bloodedge, and Sakata Gintoki in the anime, Gintama.
If you’ve forgotten all about it, don’t worry. Another no-luck kid called Hiroshi Toyama has been re-living his life while waiting for you. He just transferred back to Getsuei Academy to protect his grandparents from his own parents, and on the first day of school was warned that there are “ghosts” that will eat men after class. He shrugs it off, only to truly encounter the “Hazard” – monstrous beings, all claws and sharp teeth and no eyes. Like the Rabbit of Caerbannog.
Fellow student Eri Mitsuki appears to save him… or so he thinks. Instead, he was immediately killed by her, with his last vision one of her as he collapses to the ground. He’s then forced to re-live the day over and over again till he can figure out how to advance past this deadly threat.
The members of the student council are clearly in on what’s going on, with powers and skills to help fend off the Hazard… Or are some of them secretly aligned with the fiends?!?! Eri herself looks like she lives a dual life – one her normal body, and another entirely different personality which pops up when her powers manifest in a gauntleted red fist. Death awaits though in this psychological horror adventure game, as can be seen by the shots of dead, dying and overwhelmed students.
If you’re interested, Getsuei Academy Kou is out now.
