Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster Collector’s Edition Announced For North America

By Ishaan . December 16, 2013 . 6:35am

Square Enix have announced a collector’s edition for Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster for the PlayStation 3 in North America. The collector’s edition will be available exclusively through the Square Enix online store.

Inside the collector’s edition version, you’ll find a 40-page hardcover artbook with images from the world of Spira. Also included are five lithographs of artwork and characters from the game. Finally, the game’s soundtrack—with over six hours of music—will be included as well, on a Blu-ray disc.

The Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster collector’s edition will be available on March 18th, 2014 for $80, alongside the regular edition of the game.

Additionally, Square Enix will also release a 2-in-1 retail pack of the PlayStation Vita version of the game. This will include Final Fantasy X HD Remaster on a Vita game card, and a download voucher for Final Fantasy X-2 HD Remaster.

I am pretty disappointed that X-2 on the Vita is only available as a download. I mean, that is awesome that we are getting both games in one package for $39.99, but still, I’d rather have physical copies for both games. Plus now I have to get a bigger memory card so I can even get X-2 in the first place. Siiiiiigh.

    • charles addow

Get a 32 or 64gig its worth it as i just purchased a 64gig a few days ago.

    • Sean ‘Geg’ Reddie

Hey, its better than them saying “lolspacelimitations” and forcing you to buy both (like we were lead to believe with the Japanese versions being separate).

What about the Xeno game on Wii U?

      • RovCal

        u forgot Bravely default

        my most anticipated 2014 rpg

      • Thrasher429

Wouldn’t Tales of Zestiria be more likely to get released in 2015 since it is a 20th anniversary title.

      • Kaetsu

Also Freedom Wars, Soul Sacrifice Delta, possibly a God Eater 2 localization, Persona Q and maybe Persona 5.

      • mike dickson

wow dude p5 is japan only next year still a good line up do

      • Pinwheel

KHIII definitely isn’t coming out next year, if you’re implying that.

      • Hours

And Trails in the Sky SC, Atelier Escha & Logy, and maybe Fire Emblem x Shin Megami Tensei.

Beginning to get really jealous of the NA only collectors editions that are exclusive to the SE store

  • Really? X-2 just available as a download content? This is awful! There should be physical copies of both the games included in the same package!

    • Vermillion

is this really true ? the only one I want to buy on vita is X-2 and I want it physical >_<

      • Ping92

sadly you cant buy them seperately

    • flufftime

At least they didn’t make BOTH X and X-2 download-only…

  • Ping92

finally the vita version has a release date and it is no later than the ps3 1

  • SolRevr

Can’t wait to get this on my Vita. I hope the download versions can be installed individually . I assume it’ll be at least 6 gigs for both together if they couldn’t fit them onto a single vita gamecard.

    • JuhRo

Honestly I wished that they didn’t squeeze them into one game card… I want them to max out the graphical capacity of the Vita like SE is known to do with any device to make their games on…

  • ShindoW

I’ll pass on this. The one on Amazon LE looks better and I already have the original soundtrack.

  • JuhRo

I personally like the X physical/X-2 digital option.. I won’t ever lose X-2 and I still get a swanky box. :) -I guess not everyone is fortunate to have a 64 GB card though.-

    • D H

Not quite true… when PSN goes away and is either replaced by whatever or just Vita support is cut and your memory card doesn’t want to work anymore, there’s no way to reacquire your X-2, so it’ll be gone forever at that point. Isn’t digital only just absolutely fantastic?

      • JuhRo

Seeing as how I immediately downloaded FF7 to my Vita…. which I bought about 6 years ago for my PSP.– I think I’ll take my chances and enjoy the convenience factor of digital downloads for now. Doomsday for PSN is a great conspiracy thought, but I don’t think a physical cartridge would be the solution in that case. I’ll just pull out my PS2 and enjoy the original game.

The point is, I tend to lose physical cartridges when I stop playing them.–Especially tiny ones like the Vita ones. I’ve lost several of my favorite GBA games… due to shuffling them around. Digital is a great way to avoid this headache.
        Semantics don’t deserve an upvote.

        • D H

Mhm, don’t mind me, it’s not really directed at your post. I’m just a tiny bit bitter about being told for the last few years that the Vita versions were going to come separately, but now I don’t have the option of owning a physical copy of half of the package. To me, that’s a no-deal, and I’m no longer interested in the Vita version. It’s also the reason why even though I’ll recommend Senran Kagura to anyone even remotely interested in anime, I have not and 95% will not purchase the English version (for some games, the idea is to double dip, but I’m not sure on which all the time), because, and again, this is personal, but I’d like to know that I can play the game whenever I want, and not just as long as that specific 3DS is alive or the network is active.

I get that its not necessarily a popular opinion, but it is my opinion. Personally, I have lost one game in my life, Mega Man Zero 3, which I’m pretty sure (90%) fell out of the call at the Columbiana Mall in Columbia, SC. So, personally, I don’t have the headache of games “shuffling around.”

Again, I’m not saying anything bad about your post; its your opinion, and I appreciate that. I just don’t buy the “never lose” and am a little bitter about the misdirection.

  • r0gamer940

How can I extract the music from a bluray? can I do it on a ps3?

    • Andrew Atkinson

The FF XIV OST on Blu-ray has an option to transfer the music to your computer via your home network. It’s fast too.

      • r0gamer940

well that certainly makes this package more tempting

  • Somber

Only in their store? Oh Square Enix, are you planning to become 2nd Origin :P

  • mockturtle

So an extra $40 for five lithographs and a soundtrack on Blu-ray and not CD? Hmm… not sure this one is worth it. My rational thinking says “no,” but my inner OCD collector/hoarder says “oh god, yes!”

    • Last Star

My thought exactly. However, standalone OST of the game usually costs $25-40 dollars + shipping from Japan, so it’s not that bad of a deal (although the standalones tend to be in CD as opposed to blu-ray discs, the latter you can only play on your PS3 or blu-ray player, which could be a hindrance to some).

      • Aoshi00

The standalone Jpn bluray soundtrack is about $55,, I was thinking of ordering it.. I’m not sure if the regular edition would have the same artbook here.. I’m more concerned if this LE has the beautiful sleeve with Yuna and tidus in the sea, or just plain white background with logo…Drakengard 3 Jpn LE/ US, LR LE, and now this, S-E store is bleeding me dry lol

    • PersonaSpace

I almost insta bought it, but the artbook is only 40 pages and I’m not too concerned about the “visual” soundtrack. I’ll just stick with the launch edition I’m getting at GameStop.

      • mockturtle

Pretty sure the art book is the same one included in the limited edition that’s for preorder everywhere.

  • Manny Being Manny

The fact the soundtrack isn’t on a CD is a deal killer for me.

  • Trinity

I’m just happy to finally get a release date for the Vita version. Now, I can rest easy.

  • 하세요

“Finally, the game’s soundtrack—with over six hours of music—will be included as well”

    “…on a Blu-ray disc.”

Give me my other $40 back. You only get $40. bad, bad SE! *hits with newspaper*

    • Kevin Chang

not too bad, i`d assume squeenix will do what they did with the ffxiv soundtrack, make it bluray, but include a downloadable version of th soundtrack

  • pimpalicious

SE you had me at soundtrack, and lost me with blu-ray.

  • Slickyslacker

Eugh, Blu-Ray. Moreover, yet another SE website-exclusive Collector’s Edition. The artbook and lithographs are highly tantalizing, but I’m not made of money.

  • Chido55

Eh what, 2-1 for Vita yet X-2 is digital copy? D:
    Is it only for this bundle and there are hard copy for X-2 sold separately or what? I rather get the latter even if it will cost me even more. If it existed ;_;

  • Herok♞

I just hope that X-2 is 2 GBs or less on the Vita I missed out on a chance to get a larger memory card on black friday and instead of paying 80 for the collectors edtion I would just get it both on PS3 and Vita if I had the money right now but their other 2 collectors editions killed my wallet already

  • RovCal

wish there was a collectors for vita edition aswell

  • TheExile285

So NA is getting the twin pack for Vita? YES!!!!! :D

I’ll grab the retail Vita version & PSE CE as a late birthday present to myself

  • Kalis Konig

Hmm this collectors edition is not worth 80 bucks IMO. Well maybe the soundtrack makes it so but I wouldn’t pay double for a soundtrack and 40 paged art book. I usually buy every ff collectors edition but I am on the fence at the moment. The fact that it is a square exclusive does not appeal to me either.

  • Just to make sure…with both be available digitally?
I’m so over physical crap cluttering my shelves, so it’d be nice to nab both as downloads for the same price >_>

    • SolRevr

I know what you mean. Yeah, same price for physical or digital. From playstation blog: “The game will be downloadable on PSN for both Vita and PS3”. Kinda wish they had the option to download individual games for $19.99 too, as it’ll take me a long time to get through FFX alone. Sounds like that won’t happen though. Oh well. Take my money.

      • Take my money, indeed!

        • M’iau M’iaut

For some reason your posts seem to be going right to moderation. Sorry about that, gonna look into it.

  • Eddie

So does this mean the cover art won’t be identical with the limited edition cover art?

    • Aoshi00

That’s my main concern, not sure ifthis is a placeholder, doesn’t look it.. I want the beautiful Yuna tidus LE cover, not the conventional white background with logo which is the same as before.. Not so sure about soundtrack on bluray either.. If the regular LE has the same artbook, then that might be enough for me

      • Eddie

Looks like we have the same fears. I don’t know why they chose blu ray either… Hopefully the regular limited edition does have the same art book, if not then I might end up buying both. If possible I’d like to avoid that.

        • Aoshi00

I just chked the Amazon description, seems like LE’s artbook is 24 pages while CE’s is 40 pages.. and it looks like this is the final CE cover art instead of the beautiful new LE cover. I’m alrdy getting LE for Lightning Returns from the S-E store, I think LE is enough for me. Thing is I’m also importing the Jpn ver, I did for LR too not knowing dual audio would be included :( now I don’t even have much time to play it w/ Drakengard 3 & X/X-2 HD coming.. the remaster soundtrack is cool though, would be better if on CD instead of blu-ray, who listens to music on blu-ray lol.. Collector’s edition should have the best cover art you know..

          • Eddie

I had no idea LR had dual audio! I’m going to end up buying the Limited Edition for LR and FFX/X-2, plus the CE. So much money will be spent….. Sometimes I wish I didn’t care -__-

          • Aoshi00

I know, they announced dual audio real late, after my Jpn copy was shipped :(.. 13 & 13-2 didn’t have dual so I assumed it’s the same, imported for nothing..

For FFX/X-2, maybe you only need to get CE? if I’m seeing correctly, the middle lithograph is the LE Yuna/Tidus cover art.. I am interested in the Remaster soundtrack as well despite on blu-ray.. I could import the Jpn OST.. LR’s pocket watch and 80-pg artbook is cool, but this I need to think about.. X was one of my all time favs, S-E really knows how to make money w/ all these S-E store exclusives.. would be easier if they’re on Amazon w/o the shipping.. digital river is a pain to order from too..

          • Eddie

“S-E really knows how to make money w/ all these S-E store exclusives..” ~ That sentence is so very very true lol

  • why a bluray…WHYYYYY?!?

    • Hinataharem

Why is that a bad thing? Like, serious question.

EDIT: Nevermind, I just read that the Music is on Blu-ray. That is dumb

      • 1. Cant play it in my car.
        2. Cant play it on my computer.
        3. Cant rip to my computer.
        4. Cant listen to on my phone.
        5. Cant listen to on my mp3.

        dumb, indeed. ;n;

        • Purplefreak3

Glad I have a blu-ray drive on my computer “Owners of a Blu-Ray-compatible computer drive will be able to retrieve mp3 versions of all the tracks.”

  • Kami nii

March gaming Madness is on!! So many games that will be released on march my birth month!! :)

  • I would love the CE but they are using digital river so I’ll just simply stick with the LE. I tried to pre order but it looks like Digital River wants the money right now instead of waiting for the game to ship which I don’t have right now so that is a two tumbs down for me.

    • Ereek

Yeah, I’m not entirely fond of Digital River as well. Their ordering and lack of account system is abysmal.

    • ffboi7

After the whole incident with Ni-No-Kuni I’m always weary when ordering with them. I was glad I got my Wizard edition but for everyone else who got shafted I feels for them.

  • Wait what

Uh, what happened to the whole “limited edition is a free upgrade for those who pre-order” it thing. Are we going to pretend this didn’t happen? Or are these two different editions? You really going to make people buy the same game twice to get all the bonus stuff?

    • MrSirFeatherFang

Yup, two different editions. The previous edition you saw was the Limited Edition and this article is about the Collector’s Edition.
Xillia did something quick similar, in terms of word usage and a LE and CE.

      • Wait what

        Awful practice.

    • Wait what

Why am I being downvoted? People are seriously okay with the LE and CE being two separate things? That’s milking the hardcore fanbase and collectors at it’s worst. It was awesome when the LE was a free upgrade, but now you have to spend $120 to get all the bonus stuff for this game.

  • Yan Zhao

I…..need to get this too! And I just ordered LR CE from their site too! AHHHHHRGHH

  • It isn’t really worth it at that price tag…. :/
And X-2 HD is only available digital? Bummer but whatevs, least it is a two-in-one pack! Time to go pre-order~

  • And once again, I’m not impressed in the slightest. Especially with that OST deal. On a Blu-ray? Come on, now. Sorcery Saga’s CE may have had some stuff I had no use for (bib, spoon, plate) but at least it was creative. Art books and lithographs are tired.

  • SerendipityX

And once again square is making bizarre decisions. Why is FFX-2 download only? *sigh* Good thing I just bought a new memory card.

    • Steven Higgins

Because it was far less popular than X. This way, those who only want X aren’t stuck with X-2 and those who want X-2 can get it at no extra cost. It’s a win-win.

  • Steven Higgins

I will not be getting the Collectors Edition, not from Square, not after I got burned with KH I.5. I pre-ordered it as soon as it became available, I was supposed to get an e-mail with a code for the Dynamic theme, Never came, then, by the time I finally decided to stop waiting and buy the theme, it was gone from the PS Store.

  • the9reen9uy

This isn’t enough to sell me over the normal “Limited Edition” for $40. Having already bought the soundtrack when the game was originally released, I would really only benefit from the artbook, which does not seem spectacular at 40 pages.. I wish there was more to this! I was really looking forward to see what the collector’s edition would be like.

    • Ereek

Yeah, pretty much the same for me. I already own the physical 4-disk Soundtrack, and even though I almost always buy special editions there’s not much here that makes it worth my while. Special packaging and a tiny artbook aren’t worth the extra $40.

    • Aoshi00

I’m wondering if this blu-ray soundtrack is the rearranged ver or the original OST (I buy all FF OSTs), seems like it would be the newer music if it’s the same as the new Jpn Remaster OST release,

Also if the 40 page artbook comes w/ the regular limited edition (just chk’ed LE has 24-page), then the collector’s edition might not be worth it, again, depending on whether the soundtrack is rearranged or original.. the lithgraphs are nice but not that important. I don’t like the plain white background w/ logo cover though, compared to the blue Yuna/Tidus one.

Too bad X-2 is digital only for Vita.. but I’m getting PS3 ver all the way :)

  • Looks very nice. Very happy to be able to play theses in HD. Still hoping the save data I already have is compatible somehow though.

  • SuperSailorV

Oh my godddddd, quit with the SE Store exclusiveness! I’ve been screwed by Digital River every time something big releases… MVC3 CE, Ni No Kuni CE… sigh.

  • Altumn

I wish it came with the pre-order cover though :/

  • Daniel Williams

so happy that the vita version launches same day. March will not come fast enough

  • هاكو ممممممممم

too much great jrpg games coming in 2014

  • Iuno which system to get it ooooooooooooon :( PS3 or Vita? OR BOTH?!

  • Ronldbx6

I’ll just stick with the Limited Edition at Gamestop for 40$. Since the game doesn’t come out until March for NA, I have plenty of time to preorder.

  • artemisthemp

Hopefully Square Enix gives EU something nice.

  • Darwin Manalaysay

I really hope when FFXV is out. The Collector’s Edition is available outside of North America. Seriously..
