It’s Blazblue Versus Senran Kagura For This Crossover Card Game

By Eugene . December 28, 2013 . 2:01pm

In Japan, there’s a card game which features the bouncy Senran Kagura, called Unlimited. The latest expansion to this game will Arc System Works’ Blazblue to the mix, but hold your horses—this isn’t like other card games, where everything just kind of melds together in some unholy combination in a single deck.

You won’t see Ragna fighting alongside Asuka, for instance, 4Gamer reports. Nope. In fact, the card backs for both will be completely different. That’s right, same game, different card backs. How’s that going to work out?

Well, while both will have their own additions to Unlimited’s card system, disallowing players from mixing decks, they will allow players to fight head-to-head against each other. Each character in the Blazblue sets will have their own special abilities. Ragna, for instance, will have his life-stealing abilities reflected in his card abilities. Noel, on the other hand, relies on her gun mastery and racks up combo chains the more gunshots she fires off.

The Blazblue cards will even have special little indicators on the top to tell whether you’re in Overdrive mode and such. While this will lead to some highly complex decks – each, obviously with their own strategic twist—it should add a completely new wrinkle to the way card games have been played before.

To counter the swing in how the entire game is about to get played, the next booster pack set for Unlimited’s Senran Kagura set-volume 4-will get a power boost to help players settle into the new metagame.

i know they’re both fighting game series but this crossover just sounds a bit strange. i rather have a crossover of senran kagura and ikkitousen and not as a card game either.

    • TheExile285

Senran Kagura isn’t a fighting game series, it’s a beat em up series. A SK fighter is an interesting idea now that you mention it though.

      • Taedirk

I thought Shinovi VS was a fighter. Is it just 3d brawler instead?

        • TheExile285

          It’s a 3D brawler.

        • Abend

shinovi vs is more of a dynasty warriors style brawler

trust me if SKB had gotten a physical release in the NA it would be under the fighting games category on gamestop’s website. as for a fighter i’m sure they’ll make one as another spin-off since the roster is gigantic now due to new wave and the rumored SK2 (it looked like a new school is going to be introduced.)

Edit: Why do people think I don’t know the differences between games all of a sudden? I know SKB is a beat’em up game people. (I’ve been a fan of the series since before the original game came out in Japan.) However, some people consider, beat’em up and brawlers as sub-genres to the fighting genre infact even SKB had a few 1-on-1 battles.

GameStop huh? Yeah I won’t comment on all the things GameStop does lol.

          • Anesia Hunter

well, walmart and target would have said no to the SK series. (so touchy…) and yes i am aware of the crap gamestop does. trust me i’ve been ripped off too by them, but i can say they do atleast sell games that some would consider as having questionable(?) content in their stores and not just online. (I prefer to buy stuff in person if I can.) so give them that much atleast. now the question just comes up to what’ll happen to shinovi vs, since xseed teased shinovi vs in a picture (a picture of part of imu’s arm while holding her staff.)

          • TheExile285

Fair enough. Reguardless of my issues with GS, I won’t stop using them since they aren’t any good alternatives besides Amazon.

As for Shinovi Versus, I’d expect a DD only release like SKB.

Of course it would. Because GameStop doesn’t use a system where every type of individual genre has its own representation, because then the average customer wouldn’t be able to find what they are looking for. A 1-on-1 fighter and a beat ’em up aren’t really that much different; both rely on the same basic formula (move around and defeat your opponent), just with more enemies at once. I mean, Final Fantasy XII and Final Fantasy X both play very different from each other; however, no one complains about calling them both RPGs because they both fall under that category. I think brawlers, beat ’em ups, and 1-on-1 fighting games should also all fall under the generic “fighter” genre, because that’s what they are.

Not a Senran Kagura fan but I understand your point. This seems like a waste because both series could fit perfectly as a fighting game crossover.

      • Aisha Lee

Hmm the dual combination of blazblue and senran kagura as a fighting game crossover would seem kind of strange because the don’t have anything in common, but then again we have games like MvC and a dual use of Hazama and Hikage would awesome. So I’m pretty much sprouting nothing.
P.S the lack of Makoto and Bullet cards makes me sad.

        • MrTyrant

Nothing common in terms of gameplay but they have something common in profile. Their characters can fight, you have to look it in that way, in their backgrounds.
Like you mentioned MvC is a way more strange, we have characters that actually do not fight or don’t even have strange weapons or any fighting skill or they are a way too overpower.

  • Kumiko Akimoto

I’d play it if i could

Now Taokaka has a whole plethora of booby ladies

Arc system works collaborating on a 2d senran kagura fighter?

    • colorblindnightmare

That would be amazing if they did. Arc has a good track record for it so why not :) I’d buy it.

Just imagine if the title didn’t include card game.

  • ronin4life

This is… a REAL card game, right?
Like, with paper cards and stuff?
Sounds cool… well, it would be cooler if you could mix and match and there were more franchises…

Is there no large version of the last image?
