Super Smash Bros. On 3DS And Wii U Will Feature Different Trophies

By Ishaan . January 6, 2014 . 11:32am

As previously reported, Super Smash Bros. on Nintendo 3DS and Wii U will have more or less the same roster of playable characters, but stages in the two versions of the game will differ. The 3DS version will feature more stages from handheld games, whereas the Wii U version will have an increased focus on stages from console games.

Both versions will also feature different trophies, according to director Masahiro Sakurai. Sakurai shared one today from the Nintendo 3DS version of the game, featuring Saria from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.

Sakurai wrote on Miiverse: “There will be trophies in the 3DS and Wii U games, and each version will boast different types and models. The 3DS trophies will be mainly from handhelds and the Wii U version will feature trophies from the home-console games.”

I heard about this. I’m more likely to get the 3DS version, and I’ve had more experience with portable Nintendo than Console Nintendo over the years, so this should be interesting.

  • Herok♞

I plan on getting both day one so my only question is will there be any bonuses, like I would love to sync both and then unlock stages for both versions

  • MasterScrub

So does that mean the fire emblem trophies won’t have feet?

    • TheGioG

Darn right they won’t. People may have been giving them flack about feetlessness, but me and my stubby-footed brethren shall stand (tall?) and proud.

      • ElAbuelo69

Loved the game, among my GOTYs, but yeah the feetlessness thingy is odd lol.

        • Kornelious

          YOU DARE QUESTION THE FEETLESSNESS!!!

    • T-X

      It worked for Toon Link.

  • Guest

I wanna get both versions! I love the collectables :D

It’d be interesting a bundle of some sorts with both included plus some extras.
(But SSB 4 Wii U needs to come out first)

  • ReidHershel

Man, this may be the first game I’ve ever had to buy twice.

    • http://people.ign.com/rob1610 rob1610

Second for me. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate was the first.

  • SlickRoach

Damn, I’m on the fence about this now, especially seeing how important stages are in a game like Brawl. Now I feel like they made both versions different so they wouldn’t have to give them cross play/buy capabilities and get people to spend money on both. I’m all for new features but this feels weird to me now having to adjust to fighting to different locales if you’re on the go or at home.

    • http://danierc-polloconpapas.tumblr.com/ Eduardo Rocha

Not ALL stages will be different, both version will probably have a couple of similar stages.

      • Chaos_Knight

It still makes me wonder if the Wii U version will have Gerudo Valley or a different OoT stage since OoT is both console and handheld now.

        • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

it for recently release games as in post 2007.

      • SlickRoach

I know not all but if they have some significant amount of fun value I may want to play some exclusive levels more than others, that’s the problem I have.

  • AuraGuyChris

“Here is Saria, one of the six Sages in Ocarina of Time. She held a bit of a crush towards Link, but she was a Kokiri and he was a normal Hylian and thus the relationship would never work, unless a Kokiri-Hylian hybrid would be possible. In the end, she kinda dies in exchange to become a Sage, so all’s well! Her fairy is still lost as of this writing.”

  • kylehyde

I hope certain trophy from Brawl makes a comeback

    • TheGioG

Your games are technically still a Nintendo IP, right? If not, then they are in this Hylian heart of mine, Mr. Hyde…

  • keithmaxx

I think I’d rather be playing this on a big screen, so I’d get this on the Wii U.

And then just so I see all my faves from the handheld, I’d buy that version, too. I can lend the copy to a friend so we can both have fun, after all.

  • JMaster3000

Its gonna have same characters, that’s been confirmed day one when they announced it and i think they didn’t change it afterwards(they had some issues with the 3DS version but haven’t said that they will exclude anyone)

    • God

And you trust day one confirmations? That’s cute.

  • JuhRo

    I saw the word trophies and immediately thought Playstation. Playstation Super Smash Bros? O_o;

    • http://twitter.com/puchixseda puchinri

Did you forget about the trophies in the series? ^u^
(I guess by extension, Ninty was doing trophies long before Sony.)

  • fool

I really miss the kind of trophies they had in Melee: models specifically made to be trophies and not all that sticker and subpace emissary repackaged junk in Brawl.

It’s like 100x more work though and I don’t think anyone really cares…

*Here before the obligatory Tharja trophy poking*

    • J_Joestar

      Do it Sakurai!
just color the circular base a more golden hue and it is done!

      • http://thespellcraftcolumn.wordpress.com Rudolph Consuegra

I’m serious that if the trophy is on the touch screen, people might do some naughty things with them.

  • fireemblembeast

Wait so is the arena from FE13 only in the 3ds version?

    • J_Joestar

most likely from what we know so far, i don’t recall seeing it in any WiiU screenshots at least (but i could be wrong).

  • http://twitter.com/puchixseda puchinri

Yay~. Sounds good to me. Also, it’d be safe to assume the same applies to the music of the games, right? So technically, double the music~? I want to see an even bigger list of composers than last time! >u<
