Fire Emblem Studio Intelligent Systems Has A New Headquarters

By Ishaan . January 10, 2014 . 11:32am

Fire Emblem developer Intelligent Systems have a brand new headquarters, the studio reported on its official website (thanks, Nintendo Online). The new headquarters gives Intelligent Systems a separate building to themselves.

Prior to this new headquarters, Intelligent Systems shared their headquarters with Nintendo’s Software Planning & Development division at the Kyoto Research Institute building. Intelligent Systems currently consists of 130 employees, with 100 males and 30 females. The vast majority of the studio consists of programmers and artists.

In recent years, Intelligent Systems have worked on Fire Emblem: Awakening, Paper Mario: Sticker Star, Game & Wario, Pushmo, Crashmo, and Daigasso! Band Bros. P. Additionally, the studio also helped develop the Nintendo 3DS Camera app.

Intelligent Systems president and representative director Toshiyuki Nakamura writes:

Greetings, from the new company building.

I’d like to start by expressing my best wishes for your health, prosperity and joy.

Now, I’d like to let you know that our new company building has been safely completed. And I’d also like to thank you all for your warm gift of support from the bottom of my heart.

On behalf of the employees in this new world, we’re determined to work vigorously towards the aim of creating games our customers can enjoy.

Again, we thank you in advance for your continued support and patronage.

President and representative director,

Toshiyuki Nakamura

  • Huh. Makes sense to have so many programmers, but I wouldn’t have guessed they have a lot of artists too. But I guess since they have such a variety of artstyles they work with, that makes sense.

Congrats to them on the new HQ!

    • Just to clarify, by “artists,” I meant people that work on game graphics in general.

      • Ah, okay, that makes a bit more sense, haha. >u<

    • Tarkovsky

A game studio consists mainly of programmers and artists. Designers and QA staff make up the minority.

      • Knowing now that artists applies to graphics, etc and not just say a character designer or official artist fills in that info~. Thanks though. ^u^

  • Kaetsu

    That’s a really nice office!
Well congratulations to Intelligent Systems and hopefully with this expansion the’ll be able to start producing better(even though the’re already amazing) games and releasing them faster.

  • Minos

So, I suppoce they are placing Archers and Mages on top and Generals and Paladins on the door.

    • ZnTxn

Sadly, no lake to put a battleship there.

    • Jettythesunfish

      Anna handles sales.

      • Ryuki

So I’m guessing that they have a secret base underground for their tanks, fighter jets and etc?

        • Romancer Ecclesia

          Nah, not yet. That’s DLC.

      • David García Abril

And Gaius, Stahl, Sumia and Maribelle take care of the canteen (Stahl and Sumia cook, Gaius takes care of the candy and Maribelle the tea).

        • Göran Isacson

But… if Gaius “handles” the candy, doesn’t that mean there won’t be any left for the people working for them?

    • disqus_V0WjwyWIaz

More like their skies are patrolled by B-copters and Bombers, and their parking lots are probably filled with Artillery and Neotanks.

    • Guest

what about the Tanks, Squadrons, Demons, and Paper Plumbers

  • Damn…was hoping it’d be over here or something. It would bode well for international releases a bit more if it was. I would think.

  • Hau To

Wow. That building is so white.

  • Slickyslacker

Well, the entirety of Nintendo recently acquired new venues, not just Intelligent Systems.

Still, this is wonderful. Hopefully, this equates to development on new FE titles, and perhaps even remakes/localizations of those that were never officially released overseas; I heard some time ago on Neogaf that Thracia 776 has been fully translated into English, but of course, still not released elsewhere.

Remember all those articles and comments? I sure do.

  • Logan Nazareth

Please, new advance wars. A good, new advance wars.

  • HershelLousyton

It’s great seeing Intelligent Systems getting their own headquarters. They more than deserve it given the great work they’ve done.

  • fairysun

    Nice !!

    Cheers for you guys !

And for the future of awesome Fire Emblem games (and other great games that you guys will work on).

    • Serge

Lets hope for an Advance Wars game.

      • dam4rus

Let’s hope they can reinvigorate the franchise, like they did with Fire Emblem. Proper marketing didn’t hurt either. OR they should try a new IP. Pullblox was awesome too.

  • 3PointDecoupage

See, this is why Affirmatice Action is do important. 130 employees and not a single one of them is a Were-Rabbit.

    • Why would Japan need affirmative action? They have plenty of Action as it is!

  • fireemblembeast

That’s one stylish crib. Better environment=more games? :3

  • AuraGuyChris

    Classy offices there.

  • Nanaki

    Quite the sausage fest.
I’m happy for them having a building to themselves!

  • Krisi92

Card Hero 3DS confirmed. Also Paper Mario in Smash Bros.

  • Warboss Aohd

i like seeing good Companies get nice new stuff.

  • Kornelious

    You guys deserve it :)

  • Ty Arnold

Hopefully, after capturing that HQ, they now have enough resources to build a new Advance Wars game.

  • lordroto

To celebrate their new HQ, how about a new ADVANCED WARS!? YAH?

  • xe7en

It looks cozy and refreshing inside. Nice to hear intelligent is getting this treatment.

  • Namuro

Congratulations! Here’s to a new year, new headquarters, and many, many new games to come from you guys!

Man, I’d really like a room with the sunken floor for a kotatsu table like that. I’ll do it someday…

  • David García Abril

This explains why they haven’t announced any new games despite the success of “Fire Emblem: Awakening”.

Let’s hope they’ll be able to make even better games with these offices. ^^

BTW, 100 males and 30 females? That’s still a better ratio than most Western video game companies I know! lol

Although in Japan, art and entertainment industries have always been way better for women in terms of equality than other industries (not that they’re are literally “equal”, by any stretch. But still, better).

  • Rogerrmark

    So that’s where magic happens.

  • Looks like a General Hospital. Is that how they do it?

    • J_Joestar

Trauma Center X Fire Emblem confirmed?

  • James Enk

they are a great studio and i hope this is a start for even bigger and better projects

  • ronin4life

    Good. Well Deserved!
Now get to work on that 3ds Advance Wars.

  • Yan Zhao

Now hurry up and make Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem!

  • Göran Isacson

Good on these guys, hope these offices will be home to hard work and more FE titles!

  • keithmaxx

With 130 staff you’d expect them to have 13 bases in a mere turn… ;-) I look forward to their next game!
