MonkeyPaw Games are bringing six more import PSOne Classics to the PlayStation Network over the next few weeks, starting today. The first game to be made available will be Double Dragon, but not the Double Dragon you know.

This is a Double Dragon fighting game, based on the movie, and was never released outside of Japan. Originally developed for the Neo-Geo and later ported to the PlayStation, it includes both Billy and Jimmy Lee are playable characters, along with a number of others.

Double Dragon will be available today for $5.99, and MonkeyPaw have released gameplay footage of it, which you can check out above.

Haven’t ever played this before. I thought that this might be the Neo-Geo Double Dragon based fighting game Rage of the Dragons until I read the article.

    • RunningWild1984

This game is better than Rage Of The Dragons.

    • Lucky Dan

They are both done by the same company and was released outside Japan, Ishann has some false info there as I played in the arcades when it was out on the Neo-Geo, both this and rage of the dragons are both fun but they’ll never stand up to the jaggernauts its worth playing for an hour or two after a couple of beers like most fighting games :)

Used to play this in the arcades all the time back when I was 10-12. Rebecca was my favorite char.

Are these guys just publishing these games or are they localizing and translating them as well?
Because it’d be cool if its the latter.

Also this game definitely could have helped if it had a side scrolling beat em up mode

    • CartmanKusanagi

If it’s anything like the Rockman Complete Works releases, it won’t be translated, per se. but, most Neo-Geo fighters (and their ports) have an option for English, so you never know.

this game was awesome back in the days

I loved this game, as weird as it sounds. This fighter was what introduced me to the Double Dragon franchise.
It also pains me to see that Street Fighter The Movie: The Game gets more attention and it’s a crappy game while this game is based on a crappy movie but the game based on it is really damn good. Still, I recommend people try it out, it’s fun as hell and loved playing this at the laundromat.

Heh, seeing that Amon character caught me off guard. I was like, “what’s Joe Musashi doing in this game?”

  • MoriyaMug

Correction: The PS1 port was never released outside of Japan. The Neo*Geo version was.

There was a cabinet of this game at my local mall. Amon was pretty popular, I mean everyone looked goofy in this game the ninja was the only cool looking one. But it turns out Marian is the easiest character to use. Weird…

I played this thing so much back in the days… I always used rebecca, then changed to jimmy (or was it billy?) afterwards.

Years later I got to know that Double Dragon was actually a beat’n up series… XD

Capcom realness. I’m more excited about Lucifer Ring, though.

  • Raoni Marques

loved the game back in the day. doesn’t look that great nowadays, but still worth a shot.
