Disney Magical World Moves 500,000 Copies In Japan

In April, Disney Magical World is headed to North America. In the meantime, however, the game continues to sell in Japan. Namco Bandai announced today that Disney Magic Castle has moved 500,000 copies in Japan thus far.

 

That 500,000 figure includes the total number of copies of the game that have been shipped to retailers as well as downloads via the Nintendo eShop. Actual sales of the game at retail are over 420,000 thus far.

 

Disney Magical Castle has the player managing a café.  In addition, you’ll get to visit a number of Disney worlds during the game, interact with their characters and help them solve their problems.

    Is this why a Namco Bandai game is being localized for the West? I guess reaching the 500k mark is the factor that changes everything.

      Sounds like Ninty is publishing though, but that just means that they might handle Bamco games on their console if it’s not a Bamco property.

        Yeah, I read that NOA is bringing it over. The game selling that much must’ve been what convinced NOA to localize it.

          That and being Disney-tied will definitely help sell copies (which makes me wonder if marketing would also be cheaper).

            I dunno if Mickey & Co. are still a big draw in the West as they’re in Japan, though. The recent Mickey games were DOA. I think most who are into Disney these days are more familiar with Gravity Falls or Phineas and Ferb.

            NOA could advertise this one on the Disney Channel 24/7 or work closely with Disney to put the word out there. Not that I think Disney would bother with it. They’re still busy making sure that Disney Infinity is a success.

            I feel they are. I mean, going by Disney’s programs you might wonder, but at the parks and cruises they still have a huge draw and popularity, especially as far as moving merch goes.

            Since the game is about interacting with them and some mild collectible level, I think that’s a big help.

            I was thinking they’d definitely feature it on the younger-focused Disney stuff, and maybe XD. But I was wondering if since Bamco worked with Disney in making it, even if Ninty is publishing it, would they see lower marketing costs.

    I hope this game becomes a smash hit. If only just to fly in the face of Disney’s emphasis on Infinity and phone games.
