You Asked For It – Project Nimbus’ Mechs Have Beam Sabers

By Eugene . January 19, 2014 . 9:30am

Project Nimbus, that Kickstarter project we were rather impressed by, has managed to exceed its funding goal with a few more days to go. As part of the team’s continued efforts, they’re showing off a prototype version of everyone’s favorite close-in melee mecha weapon, the light beam saber.

This is a weapon which will split the pros from the wannabes, since it’s currently planned to be an entirely manually controlled weapon. Sure, it’s an early work-in-progress system, but so far Project Nimbus hasn’t been shy about showing off what they’re working on to make this game a reality.

Project Nimbus still has a couple days or so to go on its Kickstarter page if you’d like to back it here for the PC.

What the hell? this beam saber are just too big and overpower. Kamille or Judau would be jealous that you don’t need newtype powers to do something like this haha

    • TrevHead

If you mean as part of balancing it might be because the devs make it look really easy.

    • Ferrick

psst… you don’t need to be an NT to control beam saber outputs

    • natchu96

It’s a beam saber version of Excalibur. They forgot to install an off switch for the giant beam.

First time I’ve heard about this game, thx for bringing it to my attention. Judging from the original article it’ll be something I’d enjoy playing.

Taiwanese isn’t a language we hear that often in VG. It’s quite odd after hearing so much Japanese Mech Sci-Fi(but in a good way)

    • Sawit Sukheviriya

well….actually it’s Thai not Taiwanese… BUT don’t you worry, many peoples confuse with Thailand and Taiwan aswell. Might be hard if you never heard of our languages before but I think Thai and Taiwanese(probably Mandarin Chinese) sound completly different though.

      • TrevHead

Ah sorry about the mistake for some silly reason I had Thai in mind when I spelt that.

Anyway if you’re the dev I look forward to playing your game in whatever format it comes on PC. The female announcer sounds great. (Sadly my experience of your language stops at Van Damme movies lol)

  • Don’t know how this slipped under my radar!! Cheers Eugene ~
Game looks amazing, reminds me of when Armored Core 4 was first popular, and I loved how free the movement was. Sadly I cannot run this, but if the gameplay is anything to go by, it should feel amazing to play, and be in control of all that speed. I’m sure AC fans might know what I’m on at :D

I hope it does well! It’s nice to have more mech games out in the west!

    • Onikagen

Definitely reminds me of AC4 as well, been a huge AC fan since #1 on PS1 and this definitely gives me somewhat of a similiar vibe.

  • PreyMantis

Now, it only needs Ultra Magnetic Tops.

  • I’m really looking forward to this. While I prefer humanoid mecha designs I’m glad these looks just as fast and agile. Typically when games have tank-looking bipedal designs they’re slow and clunky.

  • Warboss Aohd

    Needs more Chainswords and Bolters.

  • Uso Ewin

Just add Wings of light and Funnels and your done.

  • Tom_Phoenix
  • Zachary Ortiz

Really hope they add pile bunkers in this game. That’s my favorite real type mecha melee weapon.

  • lanmanna

That mech is overcompensating for sure. LOL
